Blake Griffin On The Future Of The Nets and Breaking Down Those Contending Clipper Teams | JJ Redick

  • Thanks for watching and apologies for the mic situation. To be honest, we didn't have much of a choice but that didn't stop an amazing conversation w/ Blake. Thanks for watching!.
It’s been a long time coming but JJ and Tommy are finally together in the same room interviewing one of JJ's favorite old teammates, Blake Griffin. In this spectacular interview, Blake sits down for an intimate and honest discussion on several topics, including: Blake's new love of golf, discussions about whether Blake believes he's an a** hole, on his confrontations w/ the refs, on his decision to leave The Detroit Pistons and join the Brooklyn Nets, playing with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden, discussing his peak seasons, how he evolved his game over the years, his basketball intelligence, how the Nets playoff run was doomed by injuries
Concerning this upcoming season, on the insanity of social media and how stories (or non-stories) blow up, what’s next with his comedy aspirations and so much more.

Always have loved Blake - dude came into the league as someone who only scores on dunks, layups, putbacks, or dropstep jump hooks from 4 feet out - he had the look of someone who that once they lost their explosiveness would never be able to contribute in a meaningful way again. Instead of being good with that, dude developed his jumper year by year by year, eventually developed his range out to the three point line and has become a good mid range and 3pt threat - a testament solely to his work ethic and drive. Ben Simmons could learn a thing or two from Blake. Instead of assuming because you made it to the league you’re a finished product this guy continued to develop other areas of his game once his leap diminished. Much respect

I loved Blake in Detroit. It was just never a good situation for him or the team. That’s not his fault. It was awesome seeing him play in person!

As someone who began their NBA fandom with the BG and the Clippers, this was bittersweet to listen to. They hit it right on the head that 2014-2016 were some of the strongest years they had as competitors. Hell, I'd even argue that 2012-2013 were just as good because you could see they were starting to hit their stride (eg. career highs, consistent win streaks, etc.)
And then... watching the team implode. One star after another being shipped off or asking to leave. Constant scrutiny from the media, diminishing fan morale, "Doc Rivers" and so on.
Even though the Clippers are well off now -- hats off to Blake, JJ, and crew who were able to make something from nothing.

I like these episodes a lot. As an average fan, it's hard to image BG working on his jumpshot since rookie year ... Good for him ~ I'm a big Giannis fan but hopefully we run it back this year with both team healthy.

29:52 You guys didn't squander anything with the Clippers, but Austin Rivers sure as hell did. Gotta love the multiple behind-the-back self-ankle breakers on the fast break to just change the momentum of the game.
Edit: Very disappointed you didn't bring up Blake & DeAndre's amazing video of Blake imitating Austin Rivers while Austin Rivers is watching. That may actually be my favorite Clippers moment of all time.

Wen you a dunker and you elevate ya game, it's easily overlooked cause you are the main attraction. Dunking. Blake really became mo polish in Detroit and then injuries happened. I'm certain he'll have a breakout season with all this rest he's getting and healthy.

this isnt the most interesting, but it's the best podcast so far. Blake's take is really nice and calming. It would be nice if he was a regular but I know that won't ever happen lol.
Also, as an average fan Blake never came off as unintelligent, he just came off as tough.
