DeWitt is worth 4.2 billion and acts like he is the poorest person in America!
Exactly. He either needs to get his billion-dollar wallet out or he needs to sell the team to somebody that cares about them.
@@davidshowmaker4408 if he doesn't want to spend money he should sell the team
I see this opinion far too often for my liking.
First - DeWitt’s net worth has nothing to do with cash in hand. People with high net worths have high net worths because they own things with high value…..In this case, the Cardinals have a valuation of more than $2.5 billion dollars…..which would matter to DeWitt IF he were to sell the team. Otherwise, it’s just a number that means diddly squat when talking about how much cash the club has to spend…….Speaking of
DeWitt’s personal financial situation has zero bearing on how the team spends its revenue. The Cardinals ability to spend is entirely predicated on the revenue being generated by Baseball Operations, whether that’s their TV contract, money being generated from ticket sales, merchandise, concessions and any revenue sharing they may get from Major League Baseball….Bill DeWitt is not going to spend anything out of his own pocket to fund the clubs spending…..That’s not how businesses operate….
Finally…..DeWitt has never spent like a drunken sailor at any time during his tenure as owner, so I’m not sure why you would expect that to start now. At the end of the day, the only real criticism you may have is what percentage of money coming in is, or has been dedicated to payroll and whether DeWitt has been willing to take a smaller profit margin to field a better roster.
Not sure how wide it was open to begin with.
The usual confusion from the front office and ownership. We can go younger and still trade and sign for players who can help us win the Central. Zack Thompson and others need to be put into trades. They are in danger of permanently losing fans. They assume everyone will come back when they put it together. It's a let them eat cake attitude that doesn't end well. The new coaches and phase five of Ballpark Village will not put fans back in the seats. We've been told to be patient while nothing gets done. After they broadcast their intentions of cutting payroll, other teams are holding back to see how desperate the Cardinals are.
Best take! Exactly the way I see it
I’m not sure how you can do both at the same time with this team. If you’re going younger, the assumption is that you’re moving older players out to give the younger guys more playing time…..Which means you’re probably promoting some guys from within your system. If you’re attempting to trade to get better…..that usually requires sending players that have high value that another team would want…..Which is going to eat into your young talent. The only way you can go younger while trading to get better is if you’ve got a young core of players firmly cemented in positions and those positions have depth of talent in the minors that’s expendable.
While they have a nice core of young guys (Winn, Walker, Herrera, Donovan, Gorman) to build around…..There are still a lot of holes to fill to make this club a legit playoff threat and the last time I checked, I didn’t see a lot of depth that the Cardinals could move that would be considered expendable that would also fetch a nice return.
Management screwed the pooch being taking this “all in” approach with the MLB club and letting the minor league side fall into disarray. It sounds to me like it’s been acknowledged and there seems to be an attempt to fix things and hopefully in a couple of years, what you’re suggesting may be possible after re-tooling the minor league system…..But for right now, it’s not possible.
@prestonbucher18 There are younger players that are free agents to fill those holes now. We can go younger rebuild and win the central, but ownership can't save 50-75 million while doing it.
There was a time when the Angels were mentioned and I was honestly hoping for that. I’m out in So Cal now and they are my AL team. They have a history dealing with the cardinals
I remember having 3rd base field seats when Nado was wearing a Colorado visiting uniform... The eye test is real and I'm pleased with him wearing the birds on the bat
If am the Cardinals I keep Arenado DeWitt needs to Quit crying like he poor I know he had a Down season but Remember Goldsmidt won a MVP at age 35 so I wouldn't give up on him yet
We need to rebuild and fast if we have something that is desirable then we should trade them for prospects or draft picks.
I would be happy if Arenado stayed. If he does, I would like to see him at first some in spring training.
No question if hes kept with his defense were more of a contender he mite have a bounce back season offensively also go cardinals!!
I see a comeback also. I hope we keep him. Gorman would be his replacement and that sounds like a nightmare
With Arenado staying then Gorman and Saggesse play second Donovan in left and Nootbaar in center that only leaves 2 roster spots left
Im ready for baseball
Funny- I was thinking the same thing- our we stuck with him? Seems how we might be viewing him at this point (thanks in part to you JD- you got us all hyped up about trading him). I think that is doing him a disservice. But on the other hand he doesn't fit into the approach of "going young''with this team. Quite the dilemma.
@@bobbyo-q9e I could see a world where he hits well in spring or early on and plays his signature defense, and maybe the phone starts ringing in Stl. It would ease the fear of taking his salary. He will be highly motivated either way, I believe.
I, for one, have no problem with keeping 'Nado. Sure, he's blocking the younger guys a bit, but he's still a top-tier defender and hopefully his bat will bounce back this year. Sure it won't be at 2022 levels, but it should be a lot better than last year.
As far as Mo goes, I appreciate him being the hatchet man for Bloom. Bloom should not have to deal with the same crap he dealt with in Boston. This is Mo's mess, he can clean it up. The Dealin' the Cards pod had a personnel ranking episode a while back, and Mo and DeWitt were ranked F tier. For the last 5 or so years I totally agree with that assessment. BUT at the beginning of their respective tenures they were both S tier. It does sound like DeWitt is starting to get some spark back into his game, though, and I hope it holds. We need bold moves like the rehab of the farm.
take on MO is spot on JD.
Was it ever really open? I think many teams see him as a bad team guy. And with fading stats and talent not sure there’s a big market.
💯💯💯☝️☝️☝️
They are not going to give Helsley and extension so at the end of next year we get nothing the same as Fedde
They could and should give both of those guys and extension now.
The Rockies gave Arenado the no trade
They didn’t “give” it to him. He earned it through tenure.
@@BobFarris-o1jYou are absolutely correct. Any player with 10 years of service and 5 years with the same team automatically has no trade rights according to the collective bargaining agreement.
@@georgesouthwick7000they need to write that out of the agreement or redo the no trade clause. Limit it to a certain amount of teams like 5.
@@georgesouthwick7000 yes but arenado signed the contract after playing 7 years not 10 years
That's not the whole point. Beyond the money it frees up 3B for someone else. I think that's the more important of the two. Getting more important every year of the 3 years on his contract.
😅😅😂 we don't have anybody to replace him. I hope you're not thinking that Gorman has his replacement the man is going to strike out over 200 times in a season and can't bat above 200 that's not a replacement. And his defense isn't even in the ballpark of Nolan A's
@@KDShortyBulls Everything you said is just your opinion and not the opinion of the Cardinals. 3B is where he played when drafted. It doesn't matter if you're correct in your assessment of his batting skills because they want to give him every chance to make the team which means plenty of ABs. Also, they want to give Saggese a chance at 2B.
As we all know, MO and Dewitt put us in this spot. Let’s say Nolan isn’t traded and he remains a Cardinal. We have a solid 3rd baseman and hopefully he can get his bat working again with the new hitting coach. If our FO can work out a trade then problem solved. Like most I’m just tried of the drama. Good show JD
I'm ready for this Arenado business to be over with one way or another. It will be nice to not have to hear about it.
Arenado being stuck in St. Louis is on Arenado at this point. Seems like Houston was a fit until Arenado nixed the trade. Houston has a solid lineup even without Tucker and Bregman. Christian Walker, Altuve, Pena, Yordan Alvarez, Yanier Diaz……Add in Arenado and that lineup has depth. Plus that pitching staff. Houston is set up to win so I’m not sure what Arenado’s objections were to going there. You’d think a guy that claims to be hell bent on winning would be a little more open.
It would be wise to keep him the young guys need his leader ship
I think as soon as Bregman signs, then the teams still looking for a 3B will come Arenado's way. Some of them are on Arenado's list. I don't see him being a Cardinal come Spring Training.
🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
No lost if they get read off the pitching
All teams looking for pitching so if was a onwer i would go after the youn atms
I usually agree with most of your takes. This episode was no different except for 1 small point of contention that I think you were dead wrong about. You made the statement that this was inevitable, and it wasn't by any stretch. Inevitable is, he gets fired but nothing really needs to change because he's already doing all of these new and exciting things but perhaps he made a few trade misteps that led to a decline. No, no! In this case the new guy is coming and implementing all of the things he wasn't doing and we were clearly behind the times on implementing. He's coming in and completely revamping our player development staff and strategy because Mo refused to care about player dev, something fans have been screaming about for the last 20 years. This is not "inevitably" this is, you shouldn't be in this job nor have that position!
I don't understand you would go after top prospect pitchers but they go after outfielder and infielders
No respick wise the city would buy the team
No no we need his leadership with the young guys
Torkelson 1st base.sign em up.
They won't get much in return for him. I don't have that much faith in Gorman, people forget he was sent down last year and was as lost as you can get. Maybe Arenado can be all that he can be and we just ride this one out.
He sead he is willing to split between the 1st and 3b don't fell bad for the owners wise the city would buy the team
Seems payroll is already down 30+ mil Just curios how low it needs to be
Guy is a deserved HOF player. However, I would have told him already that he will be 3rd string. Hopefully that will motivate him to accept a trade. Need to let the young dogs eat.
You are right the owners made there bed
Tork at 1st
Cards need 2 sign tortellini. He was drafted in same yr as many of our youngsters. 2020 n plays 1st base. He 2 had a struggle like some of our guys. 2 catchers ina line up with the player I'm interested in watching Johnny crook n chase Davis. Contreras has no power or wheelchair nor does Herrares
Im thinking the window may have closed some time back. Too much money, too much decline ( it appears ).
I hope he stays. He's a great 3 baseman. All you band wagon jumpers have short memories.
He should have went to Houston cause nobody else wants him!
I'd rather see matz or Mickales go than nado
Put contrast at dh n trade all your catchers dewitt
But mo did it
He is the bad guy
Seriously MO??? You are really going into next season with the only thing you do is not resign the expiring contracts??? That is the epitome of doing nothing. What happened to the youth movement???
First and foremost we're not stuck with anybody. We are lucky to have them. With the exception of miles. Nolan didn't screw anybody. He was let on by the Cardinals when they traded for him. Telling him they was going to build a winner around him. They never did. I don't know why you continue to push the lie about the youth movement. This never has been about a youth movement and always been about dumping payroll. The Cardinals can keep their aging stars and still go with a youth movement. And I hope that's what happens. Same thing when I keep hearing talks about if they can't trade Nolan they're going to have to trade pitching, haha why? The team had a surplus of 40 or 50 million dollars last year. They're wanting to put that in their bank account and not try to win. Which is basically stealing from their fans. The fans don't show up and pay overpriced prices for everything associated with the Cardinals for them not to put the money back into the team.
Trade bloom if he doesnt want 2 stop the mistakes . Last looking real good ,cause 4 yrs.fans.. yrs...
Once again I am sick and tired of hearing about the cardinals trading Arenado. It is going to be a losing season this year anyway
Mo is taking the hits because he screwed up big time. Dont cover for him.
Think you are feeding us BS
No one wants that washed bum
Your owners r getting as bad as the NFL cardinals blipwells. Missouri buy these redbirds b4 Dewitts make them no better then the poorest mlb franchise like the blipwells in the NFL cards. Just keep them in St. LOUIEEEEEE
Why wouldn't Cards take Taylor in Dodher trade. He has one year left. So stupid
Don't waste your time following the Cardinals.
Their losers again in 25..
No one ever mentions Gray or Contreras. They 'screwed' the Cardinals as well. Arenado will have a good year. He's still better than 90% of the 3rd basemen out. Also, this is what happens when you give multi yr contracts. Teams will never learn
Ehhhh no
@CristopherSmith-zr7uh ehhh no what?
He was open to the idea of being traded. They found a competitive team for him to go to and he turned it down. Houston was good enough for Christian Walker by the way. Contreras and Gray from the start said they wanted to stay. Big difference. I agree they need to stop giving in on no trade clauses and the owners should look to get rid of them in the next labor negotiations.
Owners who couldnt shell out 7.5 mil 4 fedde n git what in return sour egg nogg.
Arranado only wants to go to a couple of premier destinations. He's not that player anymore, those places don't want him.
