  • This visually enhanced audio book tells the story of the illustrious Dumas family. Thomas-Alexandre Dumas was a Black General who rose from slavery during the French Revolution. The story spans three generations and discusses the Haitian Revolution and the accomplishments of Thomas-Alexandre's son, Alexandre Dumas, the Author of such incredible tales such as The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Muskateers, and The Man in the Iron Mask.
Though this novel is historical fiction, is is based heavily on research from the time. It is recommended for older teen or adult audiences due to graphic (historically representative) content.
It is (not) authored by Anna Komnene.
It will be released in weekly chapters to honor the way Alexandre Dumas released his stories, one piece at a time in the weekly papers.
This story exists to honor Black excellence and hidden histories in a fun and engaging way. It takes some historical liberties, but seeks to stay true to the incredible story of these oft-forgotten buried figures from history.
    Happy listening/reading! #booktok #history #BlackExcellence #HistoricalFiction #historicalfacts #FrenchRevolution
    With love,
Not Anna Komnene (she is very dead...)
PS - I am still trying to figure out these AI image generators, so bear with me. They should get better with each chapter as I get more experience. Feel free to leave comments on how I can improve them! Please share! Stories of Black Excellence and Black History need to be told, not hidden!

You said that Antoine was a disgraced Marquis. Why was he disgraced?

Great question. Some of this will be addressed in the coming chapters, but without giving too much away.... HISTORICALLY Antoine's family had some land in France in Belleville-en-Caux in Haute-Normandie dated back to the 1300s, in the 1700s King Louis XIV established as a Marquisate. During the War of the Polish Succession, Antoine will join the war, and after, he will go join his brother in St. Domingue to try to get rich on the plantations, but he gambles his fortune and ends up with pretty substantial debts that his brother had to settle... hence, disgraced.
