Anna Komnene was a Byzantine princess and the first known female historian. She wrote The Alexiad in 1148 when she wrote the information on the First Crusade.
However, she is coming back as a historical fiction novelist! (kind of) Her goal is to expose histories that have been hidden by colonialism and the patriarchy in engaging, fact-driven, fiction novels presented to audiences in weekly visual, audiobook chapters.
Enjoy her first book, From the Ashes of St. Domingue!

From the Ashes of St. Domingue - Chapter 7 - St. Domingue, 1775
TRIGGER WARNING: Potential to trigger historical traumas are present in this chapter!
This visually enhanced audio book tells the story of the illustrious Dumas family. Thomas-Alexandre Dumas was a Black General who rose from slavery during the French Revolution. The story spans three generations and discusses the Haitian Revolution and the accomplishments of Thomas-Alexandre's son, Alexandre Dumas, the Author of such incredible tales such as The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Muskateers, and The Man in the Iron Mask.
Though this novel is historical fiction, is is based heavily on research from the time. It is recommended for older teen or adult audiences due to graphic (historically representative) content.
It is (not) authored by Anna Komnene.
It will be released in weekly chapters to honor the way Alexandre Dumas released his stories, one piece at a time in the weekly papers.
This story exists to honor Black excellence and hidden histories in a fun and engaging way. It takes some historical liberties, but seeks to stay true to the incredible story of these oft-forgotten buried figures from history.
Happy listening/reading! #booktok #history #BlackExcellence #HistoricalFiction #historicalfacts #FrenchRevolution
With love,
Not Anna Komnene (she is very dead...)
PS - I am still trying to figure out these AI image generators, so bear with me. They should get better with each chapter as I get more experience. Feel free to leave comments on how I can improve them! Please share! Stories of Black Excellence and Black History need to be told, not hidden!

Beautiful reading ❤️❤️❤️💋
Thank you very much! I am glad you are enjoying it
I don't understand how someone could be so heartless towards their own family. Knowing this actually happened really gets me. 😢
It is true. Trying to put this into writing was so difficult. I rewrote it many times trying to figure out how something like this could happen. It is one thing to read in historical records, it is another to try to truly examine the human toll of such an unthinkable betrayal.
Looking forward to Chapter 5!
Chapter 5 is the first chapter with Thomas himself! Thanks for watching!

I am so grateful for your continued viewership!
Thank you! One could think Thomas-Alexandre Dumas was Lord Voldemort the way history refuses to acknowledge him.
It is very true. In many ways he is one of the most historically unimpeachable figures known for his morality in addition to his skill, and yet, he is hidden from history. But hopefully stories like this will help change that! His story will begin emerging more in the next few chapters after we establish his parentage and background. I appreciate your time and comments!

You said that Antoine was a disgraced Marquis. Why was he disgraced?
Great question. Some of this will be addressed in the coming chapters, but without giving too much away.... HISTORICALLY Antoine's family had some land in France in Belleville-en-Caux in Haute-Normandie dated back to the 1300s, in the 1700s King Louis XIV established as a Marquisate. During the War of the Polish Succession, Antoine will join the war, and after, he will go join his brother in St. Domingue to try to get rich on the plantations, but he gambles his fortune and ends up with pretty substantial debts that his brother had to settle... hence, disgraced.
This just popped up in my recommended videos! Probably because I generally listen to a lot of audio roleplays, but more importantly because I’ve been listening to a podcast about the Haitian Revolution. The amount of parallels between colonial society in Saint-Domingue and our modern-day imperial capitalist situation are shocking, and the number of lessons we can draw from that are too many to list. That being said, I love the premise of your channel according to the text of your bio. Can’t wait to see what else you’ve got cooking!
Thank you! I am very excited to tell the story of the Dumas family, the Haitian Revolution, and the French Revolution (from a new angle)!
I'm so glad that the story of this incredible historical figure is finally coming out of the shadows!
Looking forward to sharing it with you! Please make sure to share, like, and subscribe! New Chapters will release every Tuesday!
