woooow so many gorgeous editions! - those shadow and bone editions by Owlcrate are gorgeous!!! I was so close to ordering those, but I had to stop myself and think "why am I buying these editions when I haven't even read them??" Specially with me being from the EU and these books coming from the US. But wow they're truly beautiful! - the SE for addie la rue IS OUT OF THIS WORLD!! I love it!! - same here for the shatter me books!!! Those books were the 1st SE I purchased after getting out of fairyloots waiting list and I actually purchased ALL of them (the 3 reprints you showed in the video + the remaining 4 books). Since they took so long to ship and my FOMO had died down, I actually messaged Fairyloot and asked them to cancel my order and get a refund because I was no longer interested in them. I had read the 1st one and it was okay and I'm now in the middle of the 2nd one and I like it a bit more. It was such an eye opening moment for me, with how fast I purchased such expensive books just because of FOMO. I just bought the entire series in paperback and I'm glad I went for that route And yes I definely relate with the pre-ordering because of fomo/ buying SE because of FOMO, but 2024 is the year to change that! The 1st step to changing a "bad" habit is recognizing you have it, I guess lol great video as always!
I think we are both in a similar place with our thoughts on buying special editions! My rule going forwards is that I have to at least have read book 1 in a series to buy it, or the whole series, in a special edition. Glad that you liked the Addie. She is taking the orders for the newer version right now if you’re interested. I’m resisting temptation and sticking with the one that I’ve got. Thanks for watching Cathena 🙏🏻😊
Ooh that was a great haul, my daughter absolutely loves the shatter me series and will go mad for the special editions. Some of those are so pretty, love a pretty book the shadow and bone are stunning 😍.
I can relate to getting fomo over special editions, I have the Waterstones editions of the first two books in the Atlas trilogy but I still haven't read them so I told myself I could only buy the special edition of book 3 if I at least read the first book (which I haven't and now I think it's sold out🤦♀️)
Well the irony here is that we have the set between us even though neither of us has read any of them 🤦🏻♀️ … my other thought is that if you read the book and love it then you can always get the special editions second hand, and probably not for much more than the original cost; so overall it will be cheaper than buying every edition when they first come out, and not loving the majority of them. Hope that you’re well lovely
@@MichelleReadsandVlogs That's so true! I need to remind myself not to buy sequels until I've read the first book because there's no guarantee I'll even like it and want to continue!
I 100% feel you on the fomo. I’ve also decided to be more sensible on what I buy as I have so many books I haven’t read yet. So many books I’ve bought series for and I’ve never read a single book 🙈
I feel like there are a lot of us in the same boat… these companies know how to crate FOMO. I’ve ’missed out’ on some verrrry pretty books recently; I sometimes wish I wasn’t such a responsible adult 😂 Hope you’re well Dani!
I can’t believe you missed all of those pins the first time you looked in the box, I guess you were too excited to get to the book 😂 Also, I would recommend trying the shatter me series. It’s not the greatest writing ever but it is an enjoyable time (at least I thought so 😅) x
I'm so surprised that you don't read much fantasy.... considering your shelves in the background☺️. I don't read anything but fantasy (and fairytale retellings here and there). I prefer to escape real life....into fantastical worlds! 😂😂😂 Although when it comes to Asian literature...I love it all...no matter the genre! I really enjoy your videos...these unboxings are so satisfying! Have a great day Michelle!❤
I’m definitely getting into fantasy more and more as time goes on. I read for escapism so fantasy is great for this 😊 Thanks Natalie. Have a great day too! X
Hi Sophie, it’s a Holly & Joy, By Market Finds. It might be an old design now but I’ve just done a google and there are lots of nice mugs by then on there. Hope this helps!
I also experienced FOMO last year and didn’t want to miss all the special editions. I spent so much money on books I ended up still needing to read into 2024 or not even liking after reading them. This year I cancelled a few of my subs and only kept OwlCrate (I’m in the US) and I’m trying to really limit special editions to those I already know I love or love the author.
I think this is happening to a lot of people (there are lots of people selling their recent special editions on reselling groups on Facebook). I don’t blame you for choosing to keep the owlcrate subscription; it’s definitely one of my favourites!
@@MichelleReadsandVlogsyes! I've received special editions and immediately turned them around for sale for what I paid just because I regretted the expense.
The German editions of Fourth Wing, I did the same. I have the blank edges one and just recently ordered the sprayed edge reprint and got the Iron Flame sprayed edge. Those I will continue with too. Motivation to relearn German..
I think a lot of us were in the same boat; glad you’ve got the sprayed edges on the way. They’re gorgeous (and so different to the other sprayed edge editions!) 🥰 Good luck with the German learning 🍀
Hi Michelle, Oh Boy!!! Was this a fun video!!! You know, 4 years ago or so I became aware of the amazing books offered for sale in the UK. Books with sprayed/stencilled edges, different covers from the US editions (and so much nicer!!) and SIGNED!! I was entranced ... and yes, obsessed!! So now I order a good 75% of my books from the UK and many of those are "special" in some way. Like you I don't spend money on other stuff. I just buy books ... and my library is my comfort, my calm space, my happy place. So don't think you're alone in your obsession. If you don't have a passion in your life then what's the point in living?? Am I right??? So buy however many copies of Addie and Fourth Wing that you desire if they make you happy!! I am currently waiting on delivery of Nita Prose's latest from Waterstones, which is ironic because she's a Canadian author who I think lives in Toronto, just an hour from where I live! I kind of lost my mind a week ago and ordered/preordered a bunch of books from Goldsboro and some of those are on their way too plus a few more from Waterstones. And one Broken Binding book. Insert eye roll here. Oh, those German editions of Fourth Wing/Iron Flame are stunning!!! And the Grishaverse books made me weak at the knees!! I've only read Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom and gave away my copies of the first three books when I was purging my library of YA books so I'll likely never read those but oh I'd have been tempted to buy them if I'd known about them. When YA became a thing and so many of them were fantasy I bought all kinds of them including those Shatter Me books but after a few years discovered that they really weren't suitable for me. (I'm old). So I passed them on to real YA folks to make room on my shelves for books more suited to my taste and ... mature years ... 😉
Absolutely! If they bring you passion then go for it 😊 After filming I remembered that I still have the Fairyloot editions of fourth wing and iron flame to arrive… but it’s my money so I’m happy about it. I’m glad that I have realised that I don’t need every special edition though; just the books that I care about and are going to bring me joy. I love your library so much! I’m glad that it’s your happy place 😊 I didn’t know that Nita Prose is Canadian!!! Are there separate Canadian editions of books to the US editions? I love so many of the Barnes and Noble editions from the US! I’m borderline on YA. Some I really like and others I don’t. I think it’s good to try everything and good to recognise what works for you. I hope that your goldsboro books arrive soon and bring you joy 😊 Have a good rest of the weekend!
@@MichelleReadsandVlogs Here in Canada we get the US designs for our books and it’s likely the books are printed in the US. And don’t get me started on the price mark up that we pay which is not just because of the exchange difference between the US and Canadian dollar!! Our “national” bookstore chain is called Indigo which took over a number of smaller bookstore chains such as Coles and Chapters and has a monopoly on the market here. Lots of independent bookstores could not compete and had to close. Oh, and we use to have WH Smith here and they sold books of course but they (and Marks and Spencer’s) left us over 20 years ago. 🥺
@@crazee4books oh wow that sounds awful; I don’t blame you for getting UK books shipped over! I’m so sorry to hear that the small independent shops couldn’t compete. Thanks lovely; it’s definitely my new passion 🥰
I thoroughly recommend selling the ones that don't bring you joy tbh. It's as satisfying to be able to pass them on to someone who wants them :)
You’re right, I really should. I’d only end up giving them away or selling them in a year or twos time anyway, so I could do it now instead 🤷🏻♀️
I just love that forget-me-not blue on the Addie LeRue book
It’s stunning isn’t it; and the re-design is even better 🥰
Lots of lovely books 😍
