- With a rotor tool, its easy to adjust the left stop, but ever wonder how to adjust the right stop after install? Mike from Hunter technical support will show you two ways to adjust your Rotor Right Stop. This technique works for all rotors including Hunter's popular PGP, PGP-Ultra, PGJ and SRM. (we also have a quick tip video about how adjusting the arc and radius of Hunter rotor • How to Adjust a Hunter... )

This was by far one of the clearer explanations I have happened across thus far. Great camera work, image clarity, and verbal articulation. Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful!
I work with Hunters everyday and this actually helped me a little as I did not ever know of the second technique which can come in quite handy at times. The Hunter channel is one of the most informative on youtube. Please keep posting vids!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, like other readers I played around with adjusting my PGP for hours. Finally gave up and just put a cinder block to stop excess swing/throw. Every spring I vowed to figure it out...this year is gong to be different I thought....nope this went on for 6 years. I even bought a new sprinkler head and read the instructions on the inside to no avail, guess I had to see in action. All they would have had to say is that the right stop is not adjustable unless you tighten threads or lift up and realign gears. Again thank you !!!!!!!!
Finally!! Someone who knows how to clearly and simply explain something! With excellent video to go along with it! Well done! Subscribing...
Glad it helped!
To anyone out there, a word of warning: in this video the large, black plastic ring he unscrews at 3:20 to remove the inner barrel/sprinkler riser loosens up with hardly any effort. IF this same ring on your Hunter I-20 sprinkler head has not been removed in a long time, there is a high probability that as you crank on the ring counterclockwise to loosen it, instead of "only" the ring coming loose, the ENTIRE sprinkler, (meaning the inner barrel/sprinkler riser, the ring AND the outer barrel) may come loose from your water feed line below the entire sprinkler assembly. How do I know? This happened to me today when trying to remove the inner barrel to set the right stop of the arc. I then put the entire sprinkler assembly in a vise and tried to loosen the ring with a pair of channel-locks. No dice. I then tried loosening the ring using 2 channel-locks gripping the ring and the outer barrel. Still no dice. The bottom line is I couldn't get the ring off (to remove the inner barrel/riser) without crushing / completely destroying the outer barrel. When I called Hunter Tech Support the guy I talked to said that in order to NOT have the entire sprinkler assembly come loose he digs down BELOW the ring and puts a pair of channel-locks on the outer barrel and then twists (either by hand or a second pair of channel-locks) the ring loose. Bottom line: be prepared for the ring on your sprinkler to NOT come loose as easy as in this video. Sorry for the long post but maybe this will help someone out there.
That’s common sense tho. I work at a soccer complex so we’re always replacing head. You need to dig about 10 inches to be able to get the guts out of the sprinkler head. Other wise yeah the whole unit spins and you might get a leak or the whole head just popping out of the ground.
I had been struggling with my Hunter heads after trying to follow the directions that came with purchase, but fortunately I found this video and finally I was able to put it all together in my head, and made all adjustments in 5 minutes, after what had been hours of frustration. Thank you for this video.
Ditto! Trying to adjust with the spray flying is hilarious for my wife to watch, but a drenching for me. Thank you!
Great video, hunter sprinklers have been the Bain of my existence but no more
What a FANTASTIC explanation of how to adjust these, I’ve been having a BEAR of a time trying to do this. Thanks SO much. 😊
Outstanding video. After viewing, I was able to achieve what our association landscapers could not for the last 5 years. Now the heads on my property are all properly aimed. Thank you Hunter Industries.
Perfect! Appreciate the "two methods" to adjust the right stop; some other videos just say to tight the whole rotor sprinkler clockwise, which could crack the rotor bottom or the underlying threaded riser if the rotor was fully tightly screwed on already.
Omg this was so helpful for a sprinkler newbie! Thank you for saving me $$ and not needing to call a landscaper!!! DIY is the best!
This was exactly what i needed. I’ve been messing with these screws for days with no result. Now i learned that the sprinkler doesn’t need to be running to adjust it, and no need to wait to see how it turns after changing a setting. Now i know exactly what to do 👍 But maybe i broke some heads already. Will see.
Great video. I tried looking through the instructions and they seemed a little challenging. I adjusted 6 Hunter heads today and they all went well so thank you very much for helping the instructional video.
I have been trying to figure out the right stop adjustment for several days on one of my heads. So far, this video has saved my last nerves. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
After 10 years, it is still a lifesaver🙂 Thank you Hunter!!
This is the best adjustment tutorial I have watched so far. Thank you, heading out to the front yard.
This was the Gold Standard by far, of how to adjust these Hunter PGP heads! Bravo,,,,
Thanks for watching!
Had this system put in 18 months ago and needed a few new heads. Thank you for this easy to follow tutorial.
Thank you so much. It’s so simple after your video. I had to unscrew the top and reset the unit. Thanks for keeping me from breaking the threads trying to over tighten to get the right stop set...
I would love to say big thanks to this video and that man. That's exactly what I needed for weeks. I had tried to call the sprinkle company to come and fix it but they did not show up.
After watching it, I know how to adjust both the left stop and esp the right stop. I watched soany videos but they just showed how to turn the left ones only.
Excellent!
Dude, I have been looking for this video for ages!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to do it. Good job. Thanks, Chuck
Thank you for the clear instructions. I first tried a different brand but gave up after much frustration. I then went an bought a Hunter, with your clear instructions, it was easy to make the necessary adjustments
The best instructions I have watched. Thanks. Definitely was not going to pay anyone to adjust mine for me. Appreciate it.
Awesome! I work for an irrigation company and I have to explain this to people a lot.
By far the best video on how to properly adjust the sprinkler heads.
Agreed. Been messing with these for years, and now I know how to adjust the heads! Thank you!
You made my life so much easier and saved me a bundle. Thank you. The best instructional video ever!!
I like using Hunter PGP’s because it’s a fair price and they last a long time. I actually enjoy my customers having a tiny service bill. Makes me feel like I’ve done quality work. They last 10-25 years easy. Not sponsored by hunter.. Over 20 years experience and I’m 36 years old.
Had a new fence installed and I didn’t want the old heads hitting it and leavings water marks. Made the adjustments and now there perfect. Thank you
You're welcome
Thanks so much for this video! I just bought three of these sprinklers to replace weathermatics and was stumped
on how to adjust them.
That was the simplest instructional video I have seen in regards to this adjustment. I would have loved to have seen this video first and not wasted my time on others. Thank you!
I am familiar with Rain Bird adjustments but I never could figure out Hunter until today! Excellent explanation Thanks
Glad to help!
Super helpful. Straight to the point. No weird intro or TH-camisms. Great video.
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
The best video I’ve seen, thank you! After hours researching and trying to adjust our irrigation after we build new patio, you explained it in 17 seconds
Thank you
Thanks, dude! I had to take it apart as described in the second part of the video. Worked just as you described. Now my stairs don't get watered!
Glad it helped!
I'm replacing all my rotor heads with Hunters. Just completed the first station with 7 heads. Replacing Nelsons and Rain Birds could not have gone any easier. The adjustment is so simple with the Hunters. Thanks for a great product looking forward to the next station being replaced.
Excellent video!! The trickiest part is the Hunter instructions do not inform you how to adjust the fixed right stop in correct position before you go ahead and adjust the arc via the left stop adjustment.. took me 3 mins after watching this video
I have had mine for years and never realized you can adjust these when the water is off.....I get soaking wet everytime I mess with my system.
Nothing like a beached whale running out of the way of the sprinkler. My neighbors must get a good laugh.
Good Video Thanks
Finally a video that explains the adjustment clearly.
Good video. Note that, to make the left stop INCREASE its distance, you turn the leftmost setting CLOCKWISE -- someting I find a bit counter-intuitive.
Also, Hunter or someone makes a small white plastic collar that goes around the sprinker AFTER it has been raised with the little tool. The purpose is so that you don't have to hold it up using one hand to offset the spring. Then both hands are available instead of getting fatigue from counteracting the spring. That is handy for changing the NOZZLE -- which is not accessible unless the sprinkler is raised -- and is not shown in this video.
What a great tool! Hunter makes a Nozzle Insertion Collar (123200SP) that will hold up a rotor while it's being serviced. You can order one from your local Hunter distributor.
Thank you for the easy and precise explanation. One question please, how do i get the sprinkler to water closer to the head, it sprays far away and makes puddles and 3 feet near the head it is barely wet. Same problem with the MP rotator. I have chosen Hunter for all the sprinkler heads and I need some help.
Industry standards call for head to head coverage, helping provide a more uniform sprinkler coverage. A head that has a 15 ft radius would have the next head spaced 15 ft away.
10000% awesome video dude made my life soooooo much easier and real basic way that makes sense to a person to adjust the hunter head.awesome thank you for this great advice.
Glad to hear it!
The best I have seen to adjust Hunter sprinkler ❤️
Thank you
Do you also have a video on cleaning these? Mine has stopped rotating and has a pool of water developing around it. I think that means it needs to be cleaned right?
Finally found a video with my exact model! Thank you for this
Thank you for contacting Hunter Technical Support.
If the sprinkler is no longer rotating and the water flow coming out of the sprinkler has decreased, you can first try cleaning out the filter by removing the pop-up assembly from the main body. The cap can be threaded off and the internal assembly removed. www.hunterindustries.com/support/residential-rotors-rotor-stopped-rotating
@@Hunter_Landscape_Irrigation thanks so much for this! I’ll give these instructions a try. Great customer service!
Thank you. As a single woman, I pay my landscaper $55/year to adjust the sprinkler heads. If I see brown spots and call him back, I may have to pay additional. This video really helped. It took a few views and some trial and error to understand the "right side" concept and how all arc adjustment must follow the right side. I did have some difficulty moving it. But in the end, I learned something and feel confident that I can perhaps tackle replacing heads when necessary. One thing I am noticing. .. When the system shuts down, the head takes about 2 minutes to slow to a stop and then it needs to be pushed down. Is this normal or is there a way to fix this as well?
This helped a lot! Thanks mate, from Australia 🇦🇺
You're welcome
Great video! My i20 doesn’t have a cap to unscrew. How do I get the inner assembly out? I need to adjust my right stop.
Thank you for contacting Hunter Technical Support.
You do not need to remove the cap to make rotor adjustments. The cap on an I-20 has the same openings for an adjustment tool.
Thank you so much!!! You have made this process crystal clear!!!
You are so welcome!
FINALLY!! Thank you for the great video.
Probably should have the right stop adjustment info in the owners manual. Just saying.
I'm confused, you said that the raised rubber arrow is the area that is used to adjust to the right or to the left. I thought that that area could only adjust the water that comes out. Basically to let it flow straight out or more like a spray. I thought that you are suppose to use the hole that has the plus and minus for adjusting the head swivel.
Thank you for contacting Hunter Technical Support.

This is really great and exact. I was trying to follow the instruction that comes with the product but to no avail. I am actually planning to return it today but would defer doing it after I saw this video.
Best Hunter sprinkler head adjustment video ever!! Thx!!
Hello Hunter,
The rotor that was installed in the corner of the grass next to the driveway has been driven over by a truck. While the sprinkler head is not damaged in any way and is still fully functional, it has put a tilt in the canister and is no longer vertical (or 90° from the horizontal ground). When the rotor has water pressure behind it and it pops up, it is at about a 75° angle which throws off the arc and it sprays directly into the ground about about 2 or 3 feet away from the rotor. While I could adjust the arc, it would still be a bit wonky.
How do you recommend I fix the tilted canister? Do I need to dig it up and fix the angle when I put the ground back around it? I am afraid that, if I did too deep, I will cut into the water lines. Do you have a diagram of how the water lines are hooked up to the canisters?
Thanks for this very concise and well explained video. Was able to easily adjust my sprinkler heads.
Thanks for the great video. I tried adjusting the screw, but nothing happens. Is the pathway to the screw just filthy? I am guessing this sprinkler hasn’t been used in ages.
Hunter Irrigation thanks so much! This did the trick!
Just like what everyone is saying, this is the best instruction ever.
So glad it's helped!
Thank you. Great help. I've got one head where the tool simply can't locate the square hole to adjust the radius. Any thoughts. I'm assuming it's clogged with debris.
Great. So what if the right stop is too far right?
You'll want to rotate the entire head to set the right side as shown here: th-cam.com/video/d4c0IjeyYek/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dJ5mWgGXHootULxk&t=92
Thanks for taking the time to do this. Very helpful!
This was the best video I've watched to explain how to do this and was very helpful thank you so much!!!!!
Glad it helped!
When inner body is pulled up with key is there a way to lock it in that position? It would make pre-adjustment in hand easier prior to install & in more comfortable position than when working at ground level.Be easier than trying to hold it up & adjust rotation while holding against spring tension.
Thank you for contacting Hunter Technical Support.
The nozzle insertion collar can be used if necessary. Visit the video here. th-cam.com/video/HSV3EERHhfg/w-d-xo.html
Best video I watched. Showed me all the adjustments. and what part of the key to use.
Thanks for watching!
Excellent much much better than the written directions thank you and I subbed and upped.
Very helpful, and nicely done video!
Yes the best instruction. Clear and simple. Great job! Thanks
Can you unscrew the top of the sprinkler like you did in the second technique while the line is pressurized or will it spray water everywhere and empty out your entire line?
Hi I was wondering if the pgj models with a check valve have a dark gray turret and the ones without a check valve have a standard black turret and also do you make i20 06 ss prb models?
can these be mounted on a tripod and used to water my veggies in the garden?
Thank you for contacting Hunter Technical Support.
Yes, they can be mounted on a tripod stand. You might need to alter or add/change some PVC fittings to make them fit properly. I would reach out to one of our local irrigation distributors for parts.
Thank you again for contacting Hunter Technical Support. Please let us know if we can offer any other assistance.
When you grab and twist the sprinkler barrel at 1:55 is there a possibility twisting it clockwise might damage the sprinkler in any way?
So I have a weird issue with my home sprinkler system: When a valve shuts off, seals and the heads go back into the ground the water pipes starts thumping under the ground and in the house. It gets so bad that other zones open due to the pressure getting forced back through the system. What might be the issue there?
Bobby D
Sounds like some crazy water hammer
Where can I buy that tool, or do I need to make one? Idiots at this apartment just put these in recently and they're hitting windows and balcony. If I complain it would still take weeks and seeing is a bit of complexity in this product no way these idiots could adjust it, probably make it worse. The location is for a bed of rocks, kinda weird I've never heard of watering rocks, IDK maybe to keep them shiny or something. Thanks for you video! I was about to adjust it with a 10lb hammer, now I'll just fix another mans job. Thanks again!
Best Video yet on how to adjust a Hunter PGP. questions for Hunter in regards to the Head and Assembly that sits in the Cavity/Container piece. Is there a rubber gasket that could corrode after 10 years? One of my sprinkler heads was spraying water from this area causing low pressure output at the nozzle. Ensuring it was free from debris and no visible cracks, I was unable to hand tighten enough to prevent leak. Another unit I have, I am unable to unscrew the assembly. Thinking they were not to be opened, I was able to minimize leaking in the first unit by over tightening it with pipe wrench and vice. (using caution not to crack or damage the unit) How tight should it be? Thanks!
We had a sprinkler head replaced recently. Tech left the setting at 360 degrees. We are watering community grounds. Not sure how to adjust to 180? Is there something I do differently because there is essentially “no” right or left stop right now?
Thank you for contacting Hunter Technical Support.
The Hunter rotors are set from the factory at 180 degrees and are adjustable from 40 -360 degrees depending upon the model. The PGP-ADJ is adjustable from 40-360 degrees. The PGP Ultra and I-20 models are adjustable from 50-360 degrees.
If the left arc, right side arc, or the radius coverage of the rotor is not properly aligned the results may be a wet walkway or a dry turf area. These all can be easily aligned.
Thank you excellent video directions - so easy when the directions are clearly explained.
Glad you enjoyed it!
that was a great explanation! my ex thought he knew what he was doing rather than looking on TH-cam and ruined my my sprinkler heads!
That is why he is your ex I believe...lol
Does the builder provide the key for the adjustment of the rotor? We don't have any. Where can we buy one? I just want to adjust the left stop.
irrigation suppliers sells them also, or they come free if you buy a whole box of sprinkles
Great job explaining how to adjust a rotor.
Any tips on cleaning/replacing the spray nozzle ?
One nozzle on the rotor head just refuses to deliver the water even though the head pops up. The other two rotors in the station sequence work fine.
Thank you!
Thanks for a Great Video.
To me the instructions that come with the head is not very helpful, nothing written just confusing pictures.
Now I adjust them like a pro.
Hopefully the distance is as easy. Nice video! Ty!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you very much for video, which is so clear to understand the procedure.
You save my day thank you
Thank you! Just what I needed to know for my new system!
Thanks for watching!
Could I apply method #1 if my right stop is too far right? & I want to have it stop further inward?
Awesome. Helpful and well explained. Great work.
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video! Very clear and concise.
Glad it was helpful!
Thumbs Up! ! Great video - so well demonstrated and explained. Thank you so much.
Thank you
Performance of the sprinkle is a none issue, but the adjustment tool? How does a home owner aquire the tool if they are the 2nd owner of the home and need to make adjustments?
Great question! I did a screen capture of the white key in this video, took it down to Home Depot where there was a lot of head scratching between 3 employees, one of whom found it in an upper bin next to the Hunter rotors. $.43/ea
The best explanation ever..thank muchhhhhhh.
You are welcome!
Excellent video - I should have watched this before going out and trying to set them while they were running ;-)
Timeless video...doing this today
Thanks for watching!
This video was very helpful, thank you!
Thanks i official have stopped giving hundreds to others and fix my sprinklers myself!❤
That's great!
how do you prevent the right stop from getting greater over time? I have a traveling right stop. it magically moves more and more to the right every day.
thanks for the video. just installed a new head and adjusted 2 others.
Best explanation I have seen
Thank you
Great video! Just what I needed!!
Awesome! thank you for watching!
Great video and explanation, thanks!!
You're welcome!
Thank you so much! This was clear and to the point!
Glad it was helpful!
mine is performing a full 360. i used the drop method to set the right but nothing with the key sets the left. it just makes a clicking noise when i turn the key?
How do I cap this type of rotor head? Or does can the key shut off the water flow?
You may want to use a blank nozzle or remove the head entirely. Here are a few other options: www.hunterindustries.com/support/residential-rotors-shutting-rotor
What about water strength? Can this be adjusted? Water is spraying on my windows.
Just what I needed, thanks so much!!!
Happy to help!
