Yeah there always needs to be some kind of balance. If there are two introverts, it can be hard to keep a conversation going and if there are two extraverts, there is no one how likes to listen.
But of course, this is very oversimplified.

    • @mariegail

I’m from San Francisco. I think it’s cause corporations and America is inherently racist within their institutions obviously, San Francisco would be no exception. The reason why it’s perceived the way it is is due to the demographic that lives within San Francisco, we’re just a giant melting pot of the whole world. So within the communities itself, and the culture of the individual people, we’re used to seeing people of all colors.

describing people as the “glue” that holds you together, even when you think you’re about to break because of all that workload and stress is so. hecking. accurate.
My roommate is the only reason I haven’t dropped out yet. We’re both doing a double degree in medical engineering and mechatronics and she’s basically a safety net. She drags me out of our room to cook dinner, goes to bed at 11pm straight, making it impossible to pull all-nighters and she is the one who laughs whenever we don’t understand something and as someone who is very prone to questioning my entire existence whenever I don’t understand something I’m working on that balance is worth a million.

A little tip that I found helpful for undergrad: "You don't have to do everything". School balance is about recognising and optimising your health and productivity. Going to 2 theatre shows, a dinner, a school club, etc and then having to stay up till 3am to finish an assignment is difficult. Sometimes your friends may be going out a lot, or there's just so many things to do or you will get FOMO - but you don't HAVE to do them all, especially if it would deteriorate your health. Everyone balances differently, and sometimes you may just have to cut back on outings to balance better. It's much better to briefly stay in, prioritise finishing the assignment at 6pm and then going out for a late dinner to celebrate with friends! Sometimes it's okay to miss out on a few things to prioritise your sleep and health.

Hi Jade! I think it would be cool (obviously if your classmates accept), to film like "interviews" with people of different countries about how do they feel the life in SF and Minerva in general. Like, cultural diferences with their roomates, missing home, how do they live their religion/specific traditions ... It would be cool to see different perspectives. I wish you the best in SF and Uni! (I think I saw there is a couple of mexican people, I would be particulary interested in hearing them).

I really appreciate this video, and it has motivated me to get through school and inspired me to learn. Your assignments sounded so interesting. Made me happy to think like wow these assignments are more than just looking at your theory work and putting it into context but they also force you to expand your knowledge the practical skills you get from doing those assignments are so valuable. I really am excited for what this school is gonna bring to the workforce. They really push everyone to do their best. The people speaking about changenaking and what they want to bring about in the future and seeing how modest and amazing they are is so beautiful. Its such priviledge to be around real, true people. I went on an exchange to brazil to learn stem subjects alongside people form about 15 countries. The program was oriented around changemaking. I had 3 roommates and we stayed there for about a month. I can really relate to some things youre saying because the experiences i had there were quite similiar. It was super interesting hearing more about San Francisco sounds like an amazing city. I really want to be a minerva student but who knows i that would ever happen. Sounds like a dream.

You've legit grown up so much since the beginning - its inspiring to watch.
That stuff you were saying about complex systems sounds really really interesting - might have to look into it. I love hearing about what you're learning because it's so interesting to draw comparisons with my own degree. The variation in what you're studying is amazing; kudos to you for keeping up with that insane amount of work (research always takes way more time then you think its going to).
How are you getting on with deciphering papers? I always find it tricky starting research on a new topic because I have no grounding and then you're expected to know what all this jargon within the paper means. That you only have two days to discover all this stuff and actually write a paper on it is mental.
I've actually missed your videos so much. It's so nice to hear about what you're up to when you're out in the world exploring and being hella active. I'm so glad that you're doing great mentally (despite the insane amount of stuff you have going on) and that life is good and working out for you.

am on a biology degree at a top UK uni and the assignment really doesn’t seem that different lol except some of the hypothesis part which just seems useless (?) critical thinking within a scientific field is great but in order to study that you need a great basis in the sciences

Could you please make a video on how you navigated all the initial embarrassing and akward and not-so glamorous parts of living someplace new and meeting new people and setting up a completely new life, basically? Thank you immensely and you, truly, are one of the most honest and beautifully humane people I know.

Minerva sounds tough, but it’s pretty similar to my state university. Test at the beginning of class or handing in a 1-2 page reading response, essays, quizzes, presentations, group works, etc during the semester and the final exams and papers at the end. I mean it’s just uni, it should be like your full time job and not like high school...

I really appreciate your comments on living in a less "pretty area" in SF, the gentrification, the wealth gap in this city. I just finished sophomore year (Seoul and Hyderabad were awesome, learned so much career-wise), but looking back, i'd say the time in SF has taught me so much about my privilege. I only know about you now as I search for videos about SF in lock down haha! Hope you all have a wonderful year next year! Thanks for sharing more of Minerva to people! People will always have different opinions, but what you feel and learn through this experience is what matters :)
