Kiddo its a shame there are few good dealerships that have someone knowledgeable in setting up a bike for an individual rider. I worked many years ago in a dealership and soaked up like a sponge the education needed to understand the physics involved, steering, suspension and ergonomics all get effected by accessories. I watched more than a few riders buy and then trade in a bike when all they needed really was a little adjustment here and there to be happy. 2 of the most important things riders should consider for comfort are seat and rear suspension, all Japanese bikes come sprung for riders around 150lbs and most Americans are 180 and up. Another big misnomer is a softer seat is better, its NOT A COUCH its a seat that moves and part of the suspension when you really think about it.
Funny you say that. I was just out on my TW which has a squishy slippery seat and kept thinking how much I missed the hard flat Tenere seat. Got home and took it out for a short ride too and it was definitely a much nicer place to be! I think I might try to get ahold of a rear shock spring combo that has but high and low speed damping adjustments so it can take the big hits but still have some cushion for normal riding.
"See me ride out of the sunrise On your TH-cam screen. I'm for riding every bike That you've ever seen. Hazards to the left of me And danger on the right I got my boots I wear my gear I practice skills, no fear. I'm on *Tenere!* Don't you start no fight...."
I would take the T7 any day. It fits what I need a bike to do better. Planning on getting one next spring. Probably have to get on the order list around January to have one before summer.
Not sure which windshield you got, but the buffeting seems to be caused mostly by a lack of laminar flow. Madstad’s setup is great; I have a 16” and an 18” shield and they’re tremendous.
That does look like it would be the best option for wind protection. I got one that fits in the factory spot and is just a little taller and wider at the top. Works well but it sort of in my field of view which I'm having a hard time getting use too.
@@SwankyCatProductions Yeah that’s why I love the Madstad - raise it for highway and lower it for off-road so you can see over it. Best of both worlds 💯💯
For a trip like that, setting performance aside, do you think you’d feel more or less comfortable/sore on the Gen3? I’m wondering if Gen3 is good for Zen touring, up to a full day. I’m past the need to go fast, I just sold an R1200RT because what it does well is not important to me. And on back roads I found the size of it to be stressful instead of comfy
Great setup on the T7. Did you flash the ECU and or have you ever had the "snatchy throttle", mine kinda jumps to engagement even after the clutch is fully engaged and trying to feather the throttle. An expert thinks it may be the break in oil I'm using: Rotella 15w40 my veteran riding pal from GA recommended.
I’m wondering if you tuned the klr??? Listening to you and Jerry, it sounds like that was a large part of the difference. I understand the ergos BUT it sounded like there was a comparison made from both of you and that was a large part of your appreciation for the Tenere over the klr. Just saying. You already know my opinion on tunes. ALWAYS better, WAY BETTER, than stock. Especially on things like throttle response and certain limiters. I could see that as being a monster improvement just listening to your conversations on the subject of performance one vs the other. And truthfully the only way to get a real comparison. Nothing is ever as good as it could be out of the showroom. Also a bar and possibly riser change on the klr.
I’m 75kg (165 pounds) and 5”11”. I feel like the bike is still too tall for me and too top heavy at slower speeds. I don’t mind enduro bikes that are tall but only weigh 110kg as you can still man handle them. I’m contemplating lowering links. Maybe the low seat.
the only thing I so hate HATE HATEEEEE about this motorcycle is wind drone or wind buffetting, whatever you call it. Tall screen short screen doesnt matter, im 181cm and it drives my nuts
Congrats on the new baby !!
Thanks!

I did change my windshield to a taller one. Seams to help some. I ordered the side pieces waiting on them to arrive
I got mine on the other day and it definitely helps, not sure I like how close it is to my field of view though...
Been going to harrison hills on my KTM 500 EXC-F thanks to your videos. Maybe I'll see you out some time.
Make sure you say hi if you do!

That is THE best comment I have ever read.
that T7 is looking good brother 👊. almost makes me want to get rid of the KLR
Thanks! It's not a bad move but the KLR has a charm all is own!
@@SwankyCatProductions yeah totally it's not the best but it's good at it all kinda fits me lol
@@mkramsauer the Tenere comes close but you simply cannot beat the value of the KLR. It's one of a kind!

Cool rock demo
Yeah sometimes TH-cam has some pretty decent free stuff!
That is up by the Chequamegon national forest awesome riding area know exactly where you are at been on most of those trails ‼️‼️‼️
Not to far from there I suppose yeah.
Dead horse run and the flambeau trail system are awesome ‼️‼️‼️‼️
Yeah? I've never made it over to them. Maybe I'll have to try to get there soon.

I would think having that massive sail sticking out of the front will cause some issues at highway speeds
I forget the ABS almost every time, too. 😀
I love the t7 stock bars.
I also have vibration at 4500rpm. Seems to be more of a common thing among t7 owners. I have bark busters and crash bars.
How tall are you? You have bar end weights and still get a vibration in the grips?
Remove crash bar bolt under the headlight and put some rubber spaces. No more vibrations.

No tune on the KLR yet. The company I usually work with doesn't have the program yet but I've been waiting!
You could try a lowering link on one of the bikes to see how different it is.
Lowering links kill suspension action and chassis geometry. Lowering a bike should be a last resort item.
It would definitely be interesting to try. I get asked a lot about how tall you need to be to comfortably ride both bikes.
I’m 75kg (165 pounds) and 5”11”.

I'm 5ft7 and 135 lbs with a t7. I'm just trying to figure out a more comfortable seat in general than stock
Bike sounds good! Is that an aftermarket exhaust?
Yep Camel ADV high mount kit!
What about pro taper flex bars
I'd really like to try a set sometime!
Pro taper flex bars
Worth the cost?
I gotta have one

Yeah I just tried a real screen and that didn't seem to really fix it, just created new problems lol.
All bikes same hard seat
It's heavy. I got a atk605
Ktm 690
Low 400 lbs at most
Klr half price
