I had a 2000 xlt 4.2l supercab. it was a beautiful truck but i had to sell it as life changed. I just recently got to buy my 1997 xl 4.2l i just fell even more in love with this truck. I will keep this truck for the rest of my life. Iv got old roll up windows and i couldn't be happier
I have a 2002 F-150 4.2L manual and it has 350,000 miles and still going! I love my Ford. Great truck. Also, they are made in America, or at least mine was.
I also have an old F-150 I got from my dad! It’s a 2000 4.2L XL V6 manual transmission, just like yours. It’s the very same truck I learned to drive stick in way back when. I totally agree with everything in this video!
I loved mine! 2000 xlt extended cab, white and manual like yours. Dad bought it in 04 gave it to me as a graduation gift, had that truck till 2018! Wish id never got rid of it...
I was just given this exact truck except black with 130,000 miles on it. I’m paying a car hauler to bring it up from Florida to Tennessee. I’m really excited to have it.
I just got a '99 on the cheap with 160k. I've had to fix leaking rear axle hub seals and replace O2 sensors and a few small vacuum leaks. It's nothing to write home about but it's been a solid, reliable commuter. I just wish it was a 4x4 as I live out in the country and have had some white knuckle winter driving as I know it's really meant for pavement. Sandbags in the back help but I live with it as I absolutely love manual transmissions that are nearly impossible to get these days. (Can't play on your phone shifting...it's millennial theft proof.)
Love me a I4/V6 truck. V6 are extremely underrated. If you need a tow truck then yeah V8 is the way to go. But 95% of drivers can’t go wrong with a V6.
The 4.2 had a defect in the intake manifold gasket which would tear and would leak coolant into the oil had to change mine 3 times before I ran some gasket sealer through it and 15 years later still no problems if not fixed it would seize the engine up,check the junk yards you can’t find many if any of these 4.2s anymore
Love mine. 2003 ford f150 XLT 4.2 V6 with 241,000.Needed a new slave for clutch so because i had to drop the transmission for that I also replaced the clutch assembly, slave, oil seal, master cylinder and pilot bearing. Best truck I ever had. Still drive it everyday.
@ryanhablitzel I got a 5.4 now and Ive had a minor problems with it but I had zero with the 4.2 but the 5.4 tows a lot better and is a little more comfortable with the supercrew. Invest in a Haynes manual it's very useful especially when you have "a/c death" it's rare on these models but still possible and the manual comes in handy for it with diagrams! It's for all models and even 2017 expeditions too!
A few years ago I got a 2000 f150 xl manual 4.2 2wd stepside in black from an old guy who had to stop driving. It has a hair over 200k now. Its a/c doesn’t work and an abs light is on but I’ve put nothing into it besides oil changes.
@@ryanhablitzel I don't doubt that but it's about tongue weight,I believe bumper hitch is rated at not over 750lbs., at least mine is, I've seen several bumpers bent from being overloaded

Damn. I have a 2002 f150 4.2 regular cab Manuel. Same truck. I have 107k on it. Just got it a year ago for 6k$. I purchased it for towing my boat. When I googled towing capacity for some reason it came up as 8700# capacity. The more in depth I looked it’s really like 3500#. My boat motor and trailer is like 4000# it’s a 23’ center console. And a dual axel trailer. I sweating it’s ability now to tow it. I did put cold air intake and a performance cat back exhaust on it. I’m getting my boat shipped to me in Florida and it’s gona be here any day. I’m looking at other trucks worried it can’t do it. What do you think?
I think your truck can tow way more than the rating. I towed a large piece of farm equipment on a flat bed dual axle trailer totally around 5500 lbs from Cheyenne WY to Idaho. She’s a beast of a truck. The manual trans allows you to control your speed when towing. It’s technically not rated for the weight you want to pull, but it will do it.
@@ryanhablitzel appreciate the response brother. Boat will be here this weekend so gona put her to the test. It’s funny tho cause the rear bumper tongue says 5000# towing capacity but I’m sure they had put that same bumper on every f150 model that year. I’m doing mostly short tows to the boat ramp down the street so gona put it to the test. Love the 5on the floor too. Makes this vehicle unique. Even tho it’s bare minimum on everything else
I haven’t changed the O2 sensors… but I have changed the Catalytic Converters. If the cats were bad, you would get hesitation on acceleration. I always recommend OEM Motor-craft parts when possible.

the BEAST. That truck is SOLID.

I live in Tennessee and just turned 16 the cars been in my family for about 16 years theres over 1000000 miles on that thing
Ugly ah truck BUT extremely reliable I redline my 4.2 very often zero issues
Some new headlights and he will be looking 20 years younger, I love this years from ford and Chevy.

I have towed massive loads with the V6 manual trans set up
@@ryanhablitzelthinking of buying one, how did it tow medium loads? Up hills etc. I would tow much more than 3500 tops
@@ryanhablitzel how much weight have you towed more or less/
I dont get why these dont have a better reputation than the ranger, more room, just as reliable fuel efficient etc.
I’d buy another one 👌🏼

Indestructible truck. I just sold this one for $1800 and I had 30 calls in an hour on it. They are popular.

I had to do the exact same repair on mine. Full clutch system overhaul at around 200k miles
I have one but an automatic and its bulletproof pretty much it was my first car and i gave it hell it was amazing im looking for another one honestly

I own one exactly like this truck and, I agree. Extremely dependable.

I got a chance to buy a 2006 Fi50 just like this 5 speed and all. It has 133,000 miles on it and they want $5,000! How's that sound to ya,?
I miss my 02 manual I had someone pull out in front of me now I have an auto 01 but still not complaints
The 5 speeds are soooo nice 👍🏼
If you're pulling heavy I would and I have a frame hitch on mine for pulling a 20' trailer instead of the bumper hitch
Definitely a good idea. I pulled heavy with the bumper hitch anyway and it survived. It’s a tough truck.

First gear isn’t a granny gear. You could start in second, but it isn’t preferred.
I recommend going with the OE equipment Motorcraft Platinum spark plugs. I wouldn’t use anything else.
I also recommend changing the fluid in transmission (uses ATF 😳) the rear diff (takes a special additive).
Thank you Ryan for all the tips 🇺🇲👍
Have the exact same truck. Lifted on 35s. 300k and counting
Lifted on 35’s 😳
Thanks for the video, how many miles per gallon
If I had to guess, I would say it’s about 15-18 MPG

Does anyone know what this vehicle is rated to tow?
I’m not sure of the exact number, but probably rated at 2000 lbs or so. Really is that I’ve towed 5000 + with it and it took the load like a champ lol
If it’s rated to tow only a ton then it’s extremely underrated. The current gen tacoma for example with the 2.7L 4cyl is rated at 3,500 if I recall.
How much did your clutch job cost?
I think I'm going to need one soon.
I had to have all of the clutch hydraulics replaced too (salve cylinder). It was around $1000 if I remember correctly.
