This gets an instant sub just out of respect for keeping my favorite guitarists music alive. The burst and the other 2 Gibson were a treat. Thank you for sharing this 🙏😎🎸
Very true! I have an '81 Hamer Special that I picked up in a pawn shop many years ago. I had been eyeing it for a couple of weeks. I walked into the shop on Christmas Eve and saw a sign that said "25% off everything-Merry Christmas". I asked if that included that guitar? He said yes and I immediately bought it. I can play things on that guitar that I NEVER thought of playing before and can't play on others. I think it was there for me to have.
Long ago, I bought a '57 Stratocaster and a Standel tube amp in a pawn shop for $150. This was back when it was just "an old guitar". I sold it about 3 years later because I didn't really like the buzzing. THEN, Eric Clapton started talking about old strats and they became "vintage" and "collectable". The older Les Pauls followed suit. More of a status symbol and antique than wonderful guitars.
Not all of it is a status symbol. I will agree that is the case sometimes but there are some real magical guitars. Depends on how it makes you feel when you play it
Tommy! Definitely your #1 fan. Please get the SG. My initials and it just looks beautiful. You are awesome, my bro-in-law has an old les paul. Keep asking him for it. It will be yours. With all due respect Mrs Zamp. Love you and your music. ❤
The true beauty of these handmade historic instruments is that they are NOT in some billionaires vault! Guitars were not meant to live on a wall for just display. They are made to be fucking played! This is the beauty of guys like Joe B and YOU ALL! Thanks for sharing this video! Now PLAY the shit out of these beautiful guitars!!!!
I don't know if it's up your alley but brook Hoover (on TH-cam) just posted he was thinking about parting with an old classic guitar. He is in Iowa, a teacher, and in several bands
Wow, that 58 sounded so amazing!!! These guitars really are special. I played a 56 Custom with P90's once, and it played and sounded so good I was blown away by it. I went and got a bank loan for $24,000.00 to buy it (late 90's...) and when I went back, they guy who had it sold it on ebay. I was so depressed. Now they are approaching aronomical figures, so my dreams are dashed. Oh well, I have a couple of really nice re-issues I am happy with, but they aren't the same.
I've owned at least 10 LPs over the years and some of them were incredibly good. Always wanted to play a real Burst to see if they were really as magical as people think.
I have had the opportunity to play a few bursts and in my limited experience I can tell you that they are not all the same. I think each guitar speaks differently to each person. Thats where the magic is.
Alright, Tommy! Nice! Hey, I think my uncle Bill Fenton is one of your sponsors up there in Keene. He owns the Fenton family dealerships. He’s a big fan of you guys. I dig your videos, bro.
Cool video. Funny how some of these guitars have soared in value. When I was growing up I hung out with some older guys from my neighborhood who were in a band. Somebody think it was the keyboard players dad invested money in the band. Guitarist bought a LesPaul goldtop new was like 500.00 back in late 60s i think. Love the sound of Les Pauls. That being said thing that pisses me off is when I started playing in the late 70s i had a ton of P basses...bought & sold them for 250 a pop mint condition. Never found a p bass that I liked.....now some of them beat to hell are going for 1200 & up...if I only knew lol...same with my old SVT heads.....
Gorgeous guitars. My two cents, after 63+ years of guitar playing and working on guitars and changing umpteen tuners ... Use some humidification on all those mahogany necks, to keep them from drying out and weakening.
Id be fine with the gold top. You're getting the pafs and the old wood so if you play good, thats the sound the burst sound. Just a different color and the gold top is slightly older even. The gold top would have a good neck profile too. I dig gold tops. And it's probably cheaper.
@ I’m Sure these guys know exactly what’s up, but there’s an awful lot of fakes out there, seein how they can fetch upwards of half a mill for the right example. No offense intended, just lighthearted humor above.
@@TommyZamp If you don't get it x-rayed, you never know. There are guys out there that make a replica so good, many dealers cannot tell the difference. John Entwistle's supposed "59 burst" went through several dealers until one finally went, NO, it's not real. Buyer beware.
When you've got one of Joe Bonamassa's guitars, you know you have gold. It's been played and loved. Then you ask yourself, "Where has this thing been, what's it seen?" Too bad guitars can't talk - imagine the stories they could tell.
Just to be clear these are not Joe's guitars. Mike has worked with Joe for many years and when Paul bought the '59 Burst in this video, there was a 2nd one that was also for sale that Joe bought. But yes I can only imagine some of the stories that these guitars would have!
Refin just means refinished as in sanded down and repainted. Theres many reasons why guitars get refins but as for this particular '59 I'm not entirely sure. Maybe because it had a bigsby? I don't know.
If you got the money…do what you gotta do…personally…I could buy a shitload of great guitars for the price of one guitar that sounds like a remake ❤million copies…
I have a bunch of Gibson Pauls and SG’s. Not as old as these ‘bursts, but 30-40 year old axes, well matured. However, for a laugh, I took delivery of a Harley Benton SC 550 Deluxe for 200 dollars. To be honest, this is a guitar I cannot put down! Lightweight and plays like butter. With a maple cap to die for! I just do not see the point in buying these overpriced overhyped 1950’s instruments. UNLESS they are totally 100 percent original, which I doubt any of them are. They are not ALL good either. There were dogs around in those days as well. Probably more than now. By the way, Les recorded a whole album on an SG. It is on the cover. Just saying.
@ I played a real Gibson in 1960. A 1958 model Les Paul burst. It was in a music shop hanging up in the window, along with a Gretsch Country Gentleman. It was 250 dollars. I tried it. A heavy beast! I was visiting the US ( Philly) with the Royal Navy at the time. My pay was 7 English pounds per week. I was gutted that I could not afford it, even way back then. If I only knew, I would have robbed a bank! Ha ha!

I love Gold Tops! They are such a simple but a beautiful color

I totally agree!

@@TommyZamp you too as well also what is your favorite year from the 2010s in general
When in Michigan??
Is the 1959 Les Paul Standard Jimmy’s #2?
Nope, it’s an original ‘59 that Hammond purchased back in Sept. It’s the same year as Page’s guitar though.
Supposedly 750 ever made, but there 850 people at least who say they have them.

Mike Hickey is as cool as Billy Gibbons…
Both are good dudes!
I dunno if Gibbons subscribes to the vintage guitar thing, though.
I sure he’s cool but no one is as cool as the Reverend.
What's a players grade worth?
Really depends on the actual condition of the guitar and what is still original.
