- New video essay on Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond! This time, we are listing 5 reasons that would explain why Cygames is ditching Shadowverse to make a new game.
Special thanks to my teammate Den/REV for the help on the script!

For people like me , that werent interested in digital cardgames for a long time, now that SVE has a place in my local game shop this rebranding is just in time. I agree that it is so much nicer for people that never played original SV to come to a fresh start with everyone.
That's me. I didn't play the previous SV because it was a very old game, but seeing that they are releasing a new one, I am aware of what is said about the game.
It is quite possible that there are many people like me who for the same reason did not previously play SV.
@@Foderlinz 8 years isn't that old...
See you guys in Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond!
So now that I finally understood how to play shadowverse from a Yugioh brain, I get noted that there is gonna be a reset!!
The game really needs a reset. Hearthstone should do the same tbh. Glad to see Cygames has the balls to actually make this move.
People take powerkreep for granted, but with time, I've come to believe that you can just balance your game in a way that isn't dogshit. Shadowverses balance was fucked pretty early on when they decided to make cards like Daria, and we've been fighting broken with broken ever since. Researching the physical cardgame makes me believe they've learned from original shadowverse and will do better this time around.
I've played shadowverse when it came out, and even though I haven't played it in some time, I'm looking forward to what they are cooking with worlds beyond.
Is that why last update the devs decided to make SV it the most dogshit in terms of "balance" than it's ever been?
@user-ki8xd2wi3x Is it? They already had the worst balance in any cardgame with wonderland dreams, so that would be an accomplishment.
Ironically, while it is true that powercreep has made game last fewer turns, Rotation is arguably the most balanced it has ever been. Which means they can actually make balanced metas if they try.
@@EclipseZer0 totally balanced 0pp Aegises and multiple 10pp followers in one turn
@@Bartido Literally the expansion that made me quit after playing since 2nd expansion.
Abyss blood was the most unfun shit to play against ever besides Dshift rune who just play solitaire.
The video is incredible, very well analyzed. I think you have understood very well why a Shadowverse 2 is needed. I believe that this Shadowverse Worlds Beyond will have a very positive influence, and the number of Shadowverse players might grow to a level we can't even imagine right now.
Thank you so much
Been playing shadowverse on and off since day 1 and a reset is definitely needed. The Hero's battle event was refreshing to play and I just hope tag battle would come to worlds beyond since I've seen it in the anime, I want tag battle so bad please.
Oh you're right that would be so cool
I can understand the SV engine not being able to handle it, but SVE's card text are taking into account 3+ player games so we can have hope for WB
1:49
definitely
doubt it
As long as you can carry over the previous game's stuff to the new game. I wanna keep all my old leaders
They confirmed that leader skins will NOT transfer. RIP.
@@EclipseZer0 NOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo! My Shaman King Leader!
This was a very insightful video. I cannot wait to get back into Shadowverse with the new release. Thank you for the comprehensive info drop.
I generally hope it comes out on PS5 and Switch someday with crossplay.
Good Video! Agree with a lot of these points, game had been power crept for a while now and needed a fresh restart with the TCG and Anime drawing in so many new players it was the perfect time.
Looking forward to worlds beyond seeing as my primary card game (Runeterra) was essentially shafted this year and as much as I wanted to get into Shadowverse it just seemed way too late and the meta was far too complex
PvP was shafted , PvE still exists but i get it , a lot of people play Runeterra for the PvP
@@symphonixblades i think that amounts to it. That was the original intended game mode I mean PoC wasnt even introduced until two years after the game launch. It is like saying battlegrounds is still being supported if they stopped making Hearthstone cards
Really loved the original during the first 4 sets and the switch version. I will jump back in but am worried about how they can reasonably handle power creep. I haven't seen a card game successfully handle it.
I played Shadowverse very early on as a transplant from RoB (due to EN servers getting whacked), but I wasn't a super big 1v1 or TCG player. I think this wind down is handled much better from a business sense.
Really curious about Cygames in the future
Looking forward to trying this out!
Thanks, I needed this.
I'm looking forward to Worlds Beyond. I've been wanting to play mobile but I always felt like I was too late to join. Now I get the chance to play from the start with this new one coming out.
With that explaination make sense for them to make a secuel game.
I hope it gets more popular. I don't want to have to describe it to people as Hearthstone, but anime.
4-turn win? Ah yes, Atomy Shadow in UL back in the days is just insane.
I think that another, not so apparent, reason for this change is that now that Shadowverse Flame is almost over, they will need a new one.
And what better way to make it more interesting than having new rules like what Cardfight Vanguard has done over the years.
Just a thought.
Very bold indeed, they also put there newly release physical TCG on weak legs into this future, not something I can invest into, knowing the IP is being ditched.. But then again there are other TCG`s upcoming, Grand Archive for example, with unique playability, great collectability, very high quality, great cost to get involved, best mechanics on the market, and very clean aesthetics, solved the power creep issues with allowing prints in tournaments, they are fan funded and developed, they have fair card distribution, some nice lore going, how about the most insane deck building options, the name does fit the purpose, so nothing to complain really.. Go figure, cheers!
Loved this game but quit playing it a couple years ago for the reasons you mentioned. Would love to play the new game but that ugly chibi nonsense would be a deal breaker for me.
I'm just glad we finally get a new Satan card
To me, it's just Cygame's secret plan to give all their IPs Chibi avatars. GBVS Rising has them(even a lobby with football), Uma Musume has that Party Dash game in the works with chibi pixel art, and GBF has always used chibi sprites.
Also, I just think that Cygames realizes that games need to be made for an IP to last as something interesting. Live service can only go so far when the code is lagging behind.
I played SV since day 1 and quit around the time the Wicked Avatar rotated out if I recall correctly. My issue was not only power creep but the very obvious preference on some classes over others.
I played ONLY Haven which I know was shooting myself on the foot, but Haven provided me with a unique gameplay at the start with countdowns, forcing me to memorize every other deck so that my amulets would pop when I needed them forcing the opponent to either fall for it or do a suboptimal play.
But no matter how long, that was pretty much it... There was basically no amulet support, Haven became a Storm thing which I didn't like, other classes started getting way more mechanics while I am sure Haven got none even to this day. Furthermore I was never interested in other classes as they were all basically Aggro in a different flavor or something I found frustrating or ridiculous like Spellbootsing giving you an advantage for throwing cards, Sword eventually having free evolves , or dragon being a Ticking time bomb with a speed up button and so on.
I know Haven got a taste of these too later on but in all honesty the experience felt the same even when I was winning since. This time I am hoping that they rework not only Haven but every class to be actually unique so that I won't feel compelled to play haven only again.
And yes, I am aware of the Healing centric strategies, ward strategies, Diamond and the countdown support. But honestly these were not it for me as they didn't feel unique at all even if they were strong.
Either way, see you guys in Worlds Beyond.
I tried shadowverse out for a while but I was pretty bored with all the different leader options. There doesn't appear to be as much of a clear divide between deck archetypes as there is in mtg. Every deck felt basically the same.
If you can't keep you're leaders, I doubt I'll invest my time into it.
i just wanna play with my artifacts bro
Grate arguments I won't be playing worlds beyond however. I can remake my 12 years collection
I got the Switch game, Shadowverse: Champion’s Battle and I love the characters and world. And the card game was fun, if really challenging with the rules.
I don’t know about Worlds Beyond.
It'll be interesting for Cygames to introduce a reward for people who played the original Shadowverse online. Like exclusive cosmetics for example. 😇
Ngl i played shadowverse for a good bit but didn't get much time to play it as much afterwards Maybe worlds beyond will stick long term
Hopefully they’ve learned how to handle power creep better for SV2. The game needs to have a banlist with the rotation to help power creep stay slow.
I’ve played OG Shadowverse before, but never staying the heck out of the SWitch game. This could be good if the UI is accessible(I am legally blind) & the game is more welcoming with card gains.
@@idongesitusen5764 agree to your point. I have tried playing blind for a stream, and concluded it was impossible. No way to read cards mid-game, no easy selection of cards in hand or field. Even if you know all cards' entering voicelines, it's too hard.
Most Japanese companies usually dont take into account people with disabilities at all, I wish more effort was done cause it isnt that much effort to make it playable to more players
coming from champion’s battle, this game looks sick!
is there gonna be account migration? idk if i should start playing SV
"The Unlimited Format became increasingly difficult to balance, and nowadays 4 turn games are the norm there."
Alright but that was a VERY intentional tihng on CG part that just makes zero sense. I only ever reached low Master but in my experience Departed Soultaker wasthe only card before which could consistently get like turn 5 wins with a really good opening and, I have absolutely zero idea why they designed Despair Reborn to work the way it did lmao
So I was about to try playing the original shadowverse, should I wait for the new game or start the original?
Just wish the game would let old shadowverse players keep their existing leaders instead of forcing them buying again for a 10$ DLC each
Wait I’m new to Shadowverse does this mean that the TCG game in Shadowverse is not worth buying ? Is it a reset to the digital game or also TCG part where the cards now are not going to be playable
thanks for making the video, very informative. haven't played since hitting master in unlimited back during season 66, just reinstalled today cause i randomly remembered that shadoverses anniversary comes during this time of year. can't wait to play once it rolls around lol. would love for my leaders bought to carry over at least, i did buy a couple and grind for some. any info on that front?
They gave us news in June, leaders in SV will give us posters for your "home" in Worlds Beyond apparently, details on the main website :)
@@HishiTCG thanks for the info! will check it out.
A Shadowverse reboot is pretty exciting to me. I like the art and story design of Shadowverse, but it's just too hearthstone-y for me. Hopefully they'll take this opportunity to modernise their design, as much as can be done.
so, 10 years in the future the same thing will happen?
It’s the one piece problem, you ain’t getting any new readers at chapter 1050.
The logic of having a stale meta is a false logic,
Many people play older formats in irl cardgames.
Because they like the pace snd diversity.
Sometimes power creep reduces diversity and depth.
If they really are dumping the main game then I'm done with the ip as a whole
They could have avoided player resistance to change by instead making this project a Granblue Fantasy card game that's Shadowverse 2 in all but name.
They could still crossover with the Shadoverse, RoB, etc. characters like Granblue always has. They already have people softened to the "metaverse" UI with the VS/Rising lobbies, Granblue just got a massive popularity spike in the west with Re:Link and yet they keep fumbling every opportunity to build up the IP like they claim they want to.
EoSing Dragalia, Rebooting VS in less than three years, not having post-launch support for Re:Link and now EoSing Shadowverse all so close together make CyGames look like a very incompetent company not worth investing your time into.
So earlier this year
Legends of runeterra essentially died to me. They completely gutted it and set it to just being a POC thing which...no. Sadly since it was something a lot of us saw coming thanks to the games monetization being well
Not that great at making money.
Still it sucks that i haven't had a competitive online card game to scratch that itch. So when my friend told me that Shadowverse was getting essentially a sequel
Yep ill be there day one to see if this is the thing for me.......or are online card games gone for me
"generous" and you show the least generous one, grandblue fantasy where peoples farm for half a year to get their characters
as for the hub its something they already developped for grandblue versus and rising, so its not surprising they update their game with this addition
Solid video
Money?
And now they pushed it 9 months. Leaving playerbase nothing to do.
I really liked the classic era from launch until Tempest of the Gods. I dislike the combo-centric game Shadowverse has become.
After Wonderland Dreams, I played almost exclusively PvE content.
I hope Worlds Beyond gives me back the game I loved. But I am not happy about losing 8 years worth of cards. We'll see if the handouts for my account's progress are worthwhile.

Rage of bahumat then shadow interesting 😅
I played SV for the first three sets and I'm not interested in playing again if we can't use our old cards for anything.
"bUt EvErY gAMe dIeS eVEnTUALLY!!" No. Netrunner is "dead", but I can still use my cards to play and they've actually risen in vakue as they age. The "dead" formats of Magic still have monetary and play value. Not even giving compensation to old SV players is sleazy.
uh- you can still play with your old cards tho, just not on the new game.
The biggest advantage of launching a new game is being able to "reboot" the stage, clean the slate of any powercreep acumulated over the years / not have to worry about how every new crad may interact with some random card released 3 years ago, and make the game feel more aproacheable to new players who want to start on equal footing with everyone else, instead of having to catch up to 8-years worth of content.
Allowing old players to simply bring in their previous collection would remove pretty much ALL the advantages of launching a new game.
The chibi meta verse is questionable to say the least
I was pretty dejected by the design decisions by the R&D team during Wonderland Dreams and didn't feel they had the skill and ability to maintain a balanced format moving forward so i stopped around there and didn't feel any urge to play the game again actively at that point.
If anything were to bring me to look at SV2 it would probably be the last point, which is about the general social hub stuff mostly cause it's a smart decision by cygames to have mode in the game with variable engagement levels that will rope in many types of people to at least install it and look at it and possibly play some games over time while engaging with the app.
They did something similar with Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising and i think it was a good decision there as well.
After ditching YGO, SV really made me enjoy card games again. Really looking forward to SVWB.
Cant trust a card company that burns your entire collection every 8 years when im still able to play with cards from the worst card company of them all from 30 years ago.
Yu-Gi-Oh? Oh no, wait, MTG. Actually, I'd rather they increase the daily free currency farm, 0.8 - 1 pack a day isn't what I'd call "friendly", it's only beating Genshin and/or HSR.
“Every 8 years” I like how your trying to imply that they done this before also your sinking more money into that game from 30 years ago with there increase production (almost a new set every month) power creep and now having a premium options then you ever would for this free to play game that you don’t have to every spend a cent on
At the end of the day, it's your choice.
I just find your reasoning to be a bit odd, considering you're implying you won't be able to play with these cards anymore- when you still can. They've not announced that they'll shut down the servers, on the contrary they explicitly said that they'll keep the servers open and they'll change the format to keep things from becoming too stale.
@@Shuwa217HAHA! Fellow brother of mine! Lmao true on both and sadly I have extensive collections of MTG AND YGO. Recent releases at that!
God I feel this...
If anything, I’d like to see them stepping away from the “Quest” deck design. Over the years, SV cards design has been repetitive just because they are already too deep in this kind of design. There has to be a 1pp ping 1 in your face, 2pp ping 1 to your face twice, etc. because they keep making Wrath payoffs. And it got worse, because sometimes these quest decks either have too good payoffs or too easy requirements, or both. And to combat that, they make another quest deck that’s even better, instead of trying to stop that kind of design. It’s the one thing that made me fall out of love with the game. Quest design can be very interesting if done right, but now it’s just used as a way to give everything in a deck storm and/or to deal an absurd amount of face damage that the opponent just can’t do anything about it.
Never get into Shadowverse because the New player gate. Might but this one up
I'm sad I'm losing my hatsune miku skin
bof i enjoy shadowvers yet but i can understand the need for a reset
I like the game itself honestly. Shadowverse is a very weak adaptation by itself, they (the devs) will get some more time with this remake but I don't understand 1 thing. Nobody watches the anime because it is very lame & why would anybody watch it if theres a better option (Yu-Gi-Oh) & nobody plays the game because why would anybody do, this is Heartstone with evolution points.
So, why the hell they dont invest their money to promoting the existing card game & implementing some new content to it instead of completely mass up the existing game and releasing it in a new package? The main reason nobody plays these games are that the only games majority knows are Heartstone, Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh and thats because of their marketing is way better. Theres no need for an entire shadowverse anime series, they should make stupid Facebook and Instagram ads like any other noname games does nowadays, and than they could reach more players. This Shadowverse 2 remake/release/update whatever to call, is a half-solution. After a year or so the playerbase will drop down back where it is now.
So far they've fucked up in 4 ways:
1-Not giving any info. They announced the game in December and barely talked ever since.
2-Merging Shadowcraft and Bloodcraft. The reasoning is that "7 classes are easier to balance than 8" and that "Blood's mechanics aren't good", yet we currently have arguably the most balanced Rotation meta with Blood having 3-4 meta-viable decks. Alsoo less classes means more cards per class and thus more potentially broken interactions, just like Crosscraft showed us.
3-Not giving veterans much freebies. Not only we obviously lose our card collections (which hurts but could be reasonable by itself), but also we know nothing about compensations, AND we'll lose our leader skins (it has been confirmed leader skins won't transfer, other unespecified cosmetics will).
4-The "maintenance mode" of the original Shadowverse is legit looking very good. Throwback Rotation, Custom Rotation, more cosmetics, scheduled events and potentially more balance patches. Some people may not feel the need to "make the jump" into Worlds Beyond.
I think it's dumb to create a new game after people spent so much money to get skins and cards. People won't be happy about that. They should create a system where you at least gain something from having spent money on shadowverse, just like smite does. I'm very sure World's beyond is going to have power creeping too, just like any mobile game.
Very much a massive red flag for a company to burn away collections like this. Means that there's no reason to give them your money since they'll stop supporting whatever you get anyway.

Nothing is forever yugioh will one day die magic the gathering will one day die even Pokémon will one day die and you will have sunk more money in them by the time they die this game is completely free and spending money is optional you do not have to pay a single cent
@@UnoDosTres-qn4lmyou named three games I can just keep around as board games wat
Cause they tired of balancing blood
It's very simple. They want people to start spending money on packs and skins again. The only way to do that is by making the cards and skins people already have, useless. Having cards and skins in Shadowverse will mean nothing anymore once the developer stops making new content and people stop playing because of it. They try to make it seems less bad by keeping the servers up but it doesn't.
If they also want to reset the power creep, they can just do it within the current game. They can literally just limit all the currently existing cards to Unlimited only or a new format and start releasing new packs with new mechanics and lower power levels for rotation.
Whenever a developer say that their engine is too old to keep making new and exciting content, it's a fucking lie. Proven by Riot. They did not need a new engine just to make a great 2D card game. It was for the open world 3D shit no one asked for.
In the end, cygames proved themselves to be untrustworthy when they won't hesitate to shut down a game with so many players that have invested their time into for money. Shame
I want to play more banlanced card game, sorry but that´s my opinion.
Well, look at yugioh and its powercreep
Yugioh powercreep is a joke compares to Shadowverse tbh.

Myopic USA 🦅 culture is so prevalent, you need a long explanation to justify being pro reform and not mindlessly short-term-ist. 🙄
All I can see is the same game with the same graphics which were already outdated at the original release. The new player interaction "metaverse" system is something no one wants and no one asked for. Just as Zuckerbers Metaverse, which was nothing more then a retarded Idea from a billionaire no one dared to question and now absolutely no one cares about.
The only good thing is the full reset for new players but again...just copying the very same outdated look is beyond stupid. Shadowverse 2 will be the biggest waste of potential ever witnessed

Not looking forward to it at all considering how they balanced the original game.
Yeah, cool, BUT WHY DELETE SHADOWCRAFT???
Rather than Shadow, it seems more like Blood is getting absorbed into Shadow.
Its not going away just getting fused with blood
Because they are stupid. They say that "7 classes are easier to balance than 8", yet Rotation has the most balanced meta ever right now. Also with 7 classes you have more cards per class, and thus more card interactions and thus less balance. And the excuse of "Blood is difficult to balance" is also bogus since Blood right now has roughly 3-4 meta-viable decks that don't overlap much, and they could've just reworked its mechanics without merging it into Shadowcraft.
@@EclipseZer0 Wasnt wraith blood tier 1 or 0 for heros? And I dont get how them lowering it by 1 immedailty means less balance its gonna be more or less the same if anything means more support for classes and archtypes which is a win. Besides the BIGGEST reason for the merge is because evolve, Evolve did it because of physical restraints (Ie not a cardfight vanguard problem with 24 clans to support) I dont think theres much of a problem with these classes merging because there thematics are literally the same with slight differences
not really deleting but bloodcraft is just hard to balance, at one point is useless and another time its freaking broken so shadowcraft is gonna help out with blood probably for balance reasons
IMO kinda make sense.... im tire orf YuGiOh bc the OTK decks r too ez to pull off now lol
