Wow! That was some great skiing given the crowded slopes. There were a number of times it looked as though you ought to have collision insurance, but you have really great control over your speed.
I have Hypersmooth Boost set on the camera, which makes the footage very smooth. With the boost setting, it does this by zooming in so things appear closer than they really are. I think next season I'll leave the boost setting out so it should give a more accurate view.
Wow, they put a tunnel on the Cime Caron lift exit. Not sure why. I guess it must have something to do with the new Orelle liaison... Anyway, pro tip: the lifts are already open the week before the official opening weekend. That's the week that all the new skiing instructors are learning the resort. Don't tell anyone, but back in the days I'd allow my kids to skip one or two days of school just to enjoy the pristine conditions and only expert skiers on the slopes. No worries, they turned out fine. Anyway, great video, as always!
I think that tunnel is just for the walkers (tourists) to get to the peak. Thanks for the tip, I was keeping an eye on Val Thorens, it was supposed to open a week earlier for its 50th anniversary but it was cancelled due to lack of snow in the village (though higher up was fine). Do they also allow the regular skiers on a week early?
@@ChasingSnow yes they do. You can just buy a ski pass and hop on a lift. The only difficulty might be to find accommodation, since the hotels won't be open yet. I used to rent an apartment. A few restaurants will be open to accommodate the new employees.
Thanks Mary, really appreciate your feedback... my back is much better, I had no problem skiing but when I sat down for a while, it was stiff when I stood up which persisted for about a week. Thanks for checking up...
Salut, thanks for your comment! You can add the telemetry data using VirbEdit or Dashware, both free software. First you have the extract the GPS data from your camera.
@@ChasingSnow perfect, I go in a couple of weeks, I’ll look into that. Do you need to change any settings on your go pro device to use VirbEdit? Did you have to take a garmin device too to capture all the gps data or was it all just using a go pro?
@@luke-ve8jb Make sure GPS is turned on and make sure you have a GPS signal. It can take some time to get a signal after switching on the GoPro for the first time. Then use the site goprotelemetryextractor.com/free/# to extract the GPS data from the video file. Select VirbEdit for VirbEdit or GPX if using Dashware.
@@Noctis_tech I captured it in timelapse mode so I don't have the real time. However, the footage was 20 seconds, so multiply by 15 and we get 300 seconds or 5 minutes. Hope that helps!
The "Cime" red is actually called Col de l'Audzin and it is an ugly MOFO of a piste. Narrow, bumpy and crowded, everything you _don't_ want when skiing. And the black (Combe de Caron) is very challenging. If you're not willing to go down the black, there is no point going up on that bus that acts like a lift (it goes at 40 km/h btw, the fastest cable car in France) other than the vantage point up there.
Hi and thanks for the information, it's very useful. I did the black though it was closed, ungroomed and poor light. It's in this video and starts at 5 minutes 44 seconds. th-cam.com/video/b78FP5HNSgI/w-d-xo.html
no, this is Cime. Col de l'Audzin is a much wider piste that you join by going left at the junction at 2:10. Col de l'Audzin goes mostly north to the top of Gentiane, Cime goes east along the ridge then northeast to meet Plateau.

Toujours un plaisir de voir dago ride en télémark big up poto. Et merci chasing snow pour la video c'était super agréable à regarder.
Thank you for your feedback! I always try to capture interesting footage on my journey and I like télémark skiers.
I love watching your videos, your skiing skills and how you get around all those people. How's your back doing?

2:04 ты испугался съехать вниз? Или там нет спуска ?
I think I was just having a look to see what was there. That section was closed on that day, so it's probably not a good idea to go there...
Is the elevation/course maps on your videos from an app?
I used VirbEdit in this video...

how long does the big shuttle take to go up?
A few minutes, the video is sped up 15X.

You picked the wrong day. Talk about a ski jam.
It was busy in the morning but once everyone spread out, it was much better...
that ski run was way too crowded to be any fun
7:29 always make me laugh to see people do schuss ski like the guy on the left
It was crowded in the morning but everone spread out eventually and wasn't too bad, though opening day was busy nonetheless.
Il y a vrm bcp de monde sur les pistes pourtant on est que fin novembre
Opening day, good weather and snow so everyone came. Sunday was not so busy but still lots of people.

Sorry but the conditions on this route are terrible, too many people who drive poorly, drama. Thanks a lot bad condition and too many people.
