I really enjoy your video's .... I can't get over the way you make riding ultra distance look easy. I struggle to do 100km, so I admire you're ability to do the long distances. - cheers from Australia
Thanks for watching from Down Under. Many years ago I worked as a bike courier in Adelaide, and have fond memories of trying to ride bits of NSW too. You've got some truly immense distances down there. Whereabouts are you?
@@londoncenturies ..... I live in Goulburn, NSW between Canberra and Sydney. I was born in Manchester, then lived London until 12 years when the family moved to Perth, Western Australia in 1970.
I really like your videos. I lived in the UK (Derby) until 1999. It's a complete blast from the past to see all the country lanes lined with hedges. Small villages with a pub, a church, and a green. I do all my cycling in the Japanese mountains these days. It's warmer in general, some of your rides have looked painfully cold. The way you manage hundreds of kilometers and keep the narration going is good TH-cam viewing. Cycle safely and keep posting your videos please.
Hi Peter, thanks so much for your comment. I really like to know what people enjoy about seeing videos of other people’s bike rides! Where you are sounds almost impossibly exotic to me but I get the appeal of a blast from the past. I can’t say I have any plans to do Derby specifically but I’ve ventured up to the Peaks before and hope to be passing through the Midlands several times this year (if all goes well). Maybe I’ll seek out some more villages with a pub, a church and a green. There are plenty of them!
@@londoncenturies It's not that exotic after 20 years. I followed you on Strava. 'Peter Osaka' . I tend to do 100-130 kilometer rides in my part of Japan most weeks. Take a look at some of the rides in the coming months. I'll try to post more pictures so you can get an idea of what riding in Japan looks like.
This is a great watch for me. I live in Cardiff and do this in reverse (sort of). Get the train to London and cycle back. Did it first in 2019 and left London before 1am. It was June so got light as I got to Reading. I took the flat route but probably similar to yours from Marlborough. Second time was last year. Similar timings but chain snapped at Calne and took out my rear mech. Show stopper unfortunately, limped to Chippenham and got the train of shame back home. There’s a vid on TH-cam called London - Cardiff Big Fat Fail if you want a laugh 😂
Nice one, Alex, Brussels sounds like a good route (?). Thanks for the congrats. Wales from London is pretty good, I did the coast 2 weeks ago and enjoyed that. Lots of contrast! Hope your ride to Cardiff goes well.
very impressive ride (not least as after a month's-ish layoff/sickness)..... great non-trafficy route. I like your natural 'delivery'. and you look so eager for life. like Peter Antonsson in the comments below, I also live in Japan (originally from Bucks, where I started riding for pleasure 60+ years ago, and, like Peter, it's nostalgic to see the English countryside, buildings, etc.) but no long-distance stuff at all. I ride 'fixed' in a lumpy area on the Pacific coast of Chiba Prefecture, 100k south-east of Tōkyō. thanx for the sharing..... will tune in again.
Thanks for watching but also what you say about your interest/background, I always wonder what brings people to the channel and what keeps them watching. I've ridden my bike in China (a very long time ago) and Thailand but never quite got to Japan, it seems SO far away. Another thing: I've never tried riding fixed, hats off to you!!
@@londoncenturies I came across you on the LEL video, having already watched an excellent documentary on same. then of course all manner of similar videos started popping up.....
Great video and that despite of just finishing Covid. By the way its a real pitty that you got Covid after building up such an amazing threshold. But you got away well and your journey was so beautyful. Liebe Grüße und danke fürs Teilen.🙋♀ And I am glad you decided to go by bike not white Lamorghini.
I must have ridden that route, because many years ago I remember I bought a mountain bike in Cardiff and rode it back to Brecon for a race the next day. Good hills around there!

@@londoncenturies l haven't seen the 'fail' video yet so I hope this comment isn't insensitive and lacking context! I just wanted to say that training rides are partly about ironing out issues so that the biggie (LEL in this case) is more trouble free... and that worked out okay for you😁🚴♂️👍. So was it a fail or something to learn from? It's cheesy but true to say "a day with a bike ride in it is never wasted". Thanks Richard! Yes, I got home ok from that one. Planning some more rides now for later in the year when there’s a bit more light around. I hare these long nights, don’t you? Thanks for watching!
Hi Keith, many thanks for watching and leaving the comment. I visited Thailand many years ago, I imagine it’s a bit hot and steamy for long rides, but maybe not, do you get out on two wheels? Happy riding if you do!
Amazing effort and determination there. For any future videos can we please get a time check through out the ride, gives some context with the sunlight and the pace etc
Hi, Explorer, and thanks for the comment & suggestion - yes, definitely. Nice idea! Im always looking for stuff I can add in so if there’s anything else, let me know. I’m itching to make more vids but right now am down with this cough that’s going round, so I’m going to leave it until I’m well and truly recovered before caning it again (don’t want a chest infection!!). Cheers
Great video, I have only recently found you and I am enjoying your videos. Is it possible to post the route you used as I fancy a go at a fair chunk of that., please nicely?
Hi Gordon, glad you like the channel and thanks for watching! You can get my route off Strava (LondonCenturies) but I’ve got to warn you, some bits are often a bit rubbish. I got lost several times on the way to Stonehenge the other week, so be careful you don’t follow TOO closely!! (Let us know how you get on, too). Cheers
It’s just a steel frame/ carbon fork, so not the absolute lightest out there but It’s comfortable enough. It’s a Condor Fratello, they’re my local (-ish) quality bike shop. I put a carbon seat post in and I think that makes a difference, a bit more flex or something. Thanks for watching!
Yes, I am happy with the one I've got. But thing is, I've got family in Canada and although I don't get over there much, when I do go, I love camping there and the hammock is brilliant for that (all trees, no grassy fields). So I got a US-made one, it's a Warbonnet but they're really expensive over here. Also, if I was riding with it more often, I'd probably choose something a bit lighter but for me, it's main use is for canoeing (weight doesn't really matter). Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
