Logan's Run 1936

  • Audio from Logan's Run theatrical trailer (1976), video clips from The Black Pirate (1926), The Lost City (1935), The Phantom Empire (1936), Things to Come (1936), Undersea Kingdom (1936), Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe (1940), Evil Brain from Outer Space (1964), plus the Lincoln Memorial matte paintings from Logan's Run.
    Kane Richmond from The Lost City plays Logan 5. Claudia Dell plays Jessica 6 and Jerry Frank plays Francis 7, both from The Lost City. You can spot Crash Corrigan crucified on a tank and getting rammed through a castle gate (from Undersea Kingdom). Lee Van Atta is the little boy in sailor hat firing a raygun (Undersea Kingdom).
    PS - Black Pete pointed out that the giant idol scene taken from Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe (1940) was actually repurposed from an earlier movie titled Just Imagine (1930). See, "remix culture" isn't as novel as we've been led to believe.

    Some of the tech attributed to Star Trek is present in this movie, from flat screen TV's/Monitors, holograms, video calls, etc.

      Thanks. If you like this, I have a few similar mashups like Big Trouble in Little China 1936; Big Trouble Serials; and O Dysseus, Where Art Thou? (O Brother pieced together from 1960s sword & sandal movies).

    Funny, too. Esp. how many ideas were already implemented in those old series.
    I love the way you added a few things, like the flashing red palms on those Cosmo-Nazis!
    Have you seen "J-Men Forever?" It incorporates some of these ideas, with a new script and voices. It's hilarious.

    • @deidzoeb
      @deidzoeb  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Yeah, after making some mashups, I've developed an appreciation for movies that remix older elements, like J-Men Forever and Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. But my favorite part on the J-Men Forever dvd is the bonus features where they interview George Wallace (not the comedian, not the Governor of Alabama, but the actor who portrayed Commando Cody).

      That dancing girl with the bare midriff? She's from the 1936 Flash Gordon serial. But I can't tell if her belly button is showing. Her skirt might be high enough to cover it.

    Just like the actual film, none of the male characters are actually under 30 :) (Its 21 in the book, imagine how difficult that would be to cast especially in the 70's).

    • @deidzoeb

      No. If you're thinking of the futuristic model cities, those are from The Phantom Empire (1936), Things to Come (1936) and a matte painting from The Lost City (1936 serial). Was there a specific scene or moment that looked like Metropolis?

    I remember seeing Flesh Gordon with my parents as a teenager. I don't think they realized it was more like soft-core porn than a mainstream sex comedy. Almost as startling as the time they accidentally rented Torch Song Trilogy starring Harvey Fierstein. I'm pretty sure that's not what Ma was expecting based on the title.

      For what it's worth, the men giving that straight-armed salute are villains in the movie I copied it from. Evil Brain From Outer Space (1964) I think. They're not necessarily good guys in this either.
