Always go for the early morning flights - less chance of delay! + If your on a package your return flight is early! You really can't beat Jet2!
depends where u go i usually go Canary Islands with Jet2 but the returnn is 90% of the time 10pm or later

Hi, Tim! I’m from Spain just outside of Benidorm, I hope you enjoyed your stay.
Just a heads up, blue parking means you have to pay from 8am to 21:30 (Summer hours). After 21:30 it’s free and Sundays are free all day. It changes in the winter but I can’t remember.

As a Spaniard, I will never understand the appeal of Benidorm. It looks like hell lmao. But hey, if it's fun for some people I won't bash it too much
But loads of Spanish live and go out in Benidorm, the old town.
As a Brit I totally agree with you.
I wouldn't go there, but I understand why some like it.
As a Brit I always thought there is miles nicer places
The Poniente beach side and the town behind is lovely, full of Spanish people and culture - I've travelled to many different Spanish cities and Benidorm is fine - something for everyone really - even snobs! 😁
We stayed at Hotel Helios last year Tim the rooms were very pleasant and a decent nights sleep, the breakfast next morning was your normal standard buffet style, with lots and lots of selection. Really enjoy watching all of your interesting videos, including with your wife and baby son.
I was very surprised to see the Zante shipwreck photo on the wall of a Benidorm hotel - recognised it straight away especially as I've been right next to it on that beach. You can only get to it by boat, though you can visit the overlook above which we did on an off-road safari tour. I loved Zante, though it was a trip booked 3 weeks prior to our departure following the collapse of our long-time planned trip to Spain in the madness of 2020. There's so many wonderful things to do on the island, and Zante Town itself is well worth an explore.

@@WalkWithMeTim I just thought - isn't the name of the accommodation Hotel Helios? Helios is a Greek word meaning Sun, and is the god of the Sun in ancient Greece. Which may be why the hotel has some Greek theming like the Zante shipwreck picture. Though they haven't gone all in and had the traditional Greek tiling
Spanish olive oil is awesome taste like lemon
Tip when hiring a car. Instead of paying for enhanced insurance protection with the car hire company, buy a third party policy for a lot cheaper. You can buy an annual cover or cover for one trip. If you ever had an incident you would have to pay the excess to the car hire company but put a claim in on your policy to recoup the money afterwards.
The Birmingham transit from the station to the airport is also driverless, takes about 1.5 mins but it's FREE! 😉
Unfortunately stressed and rude is happening in all four corners of the world. I’m in the US born and raised in NYC and seems everyone is in a mad rush and God help you if you slow them up. I walk with a cane and I’m slow and that’s not good 😱 people automatically get annoyed, it’s pretty sad. I worry for our future generations. Sorry didn’t mean to get so heavy. I thought maybe it was just happening in America but no it’s not just us. Anyway here’s to a kinder future 😊♥️🌎. Thanks I do enjoy watching your travel videos.
The Helios going back you could pay to use the pool.I used it many a time with my children in winter as they covered it.

I agree with paying extra for car hire insurance for peace of mind, enjoy your trip.
I stayed in the exact same hotel many times, and always loved it. The corner rooms were always the best.
I recommend going to the Benidorm festival in November. There is the big British fancy dress on the Thursday and there around 20k of brits all dressed up. Its always in the news. Its worth visiting nothing like it anywhere. 16th November it happens this year. I am staying in the RH Carfali which is always nice as you know
The car rental aspects always good to cover in nice detail as practicalities might be confusing to people who dont normally rent cars on holidays. I always take the insurance too, prepay for it and by the time holiday rolls around you have forgotten the added cost and can drive without worrying of rental company scamming you or accidental scratches costing hundreds.
Exactly but hate when some companies charge this much normally I can get it for 50 euros
@@WalkWithMeTim yeah it’s always a gamble on what they will ask. Usually end up adding 50-75% (sometimes even more) to cost of car in insurance but then i tend to stress about little things so makes sense to just buy it and enjoy stress free holiday 😄
Anyways, keep up the good reporting and I think it’s well worth showing the car related tips and impressions (local driving, parking, etc)
Regarding the car insurance, you can buy "car excess insurance" cover in the UK for around £4 per day. Google will give you many options for single trip or annual policies.
@@barrypollard5933 yeah fair enough, but then you have the faff of still paying all damages out of pocket and claiming them back from the company, that may or may not screw you over. Also it wouldn’t cover any processing fees and so on that the rental is going to smack on top. There are plenty ways to save money buy they have drawbacks, going direct to rental company is definitely the most expensive but it’s also the easiest.
I've never had the need to make a claim and hopefully will never have to bit the policies I have read seem to cover everything. Though only when you claim you will see how good the company is!
I went to zante years ago and got a boat trip to the shipwreck , stayed at hotel contessina in tsvilli, have never been to benidorm before your hotel room looked very nice x
For insurance if you travel regularly, we have an annual policy for car insurance excesses for £125 a year and it covers all rentals and drivers on the policies when hiring in any country

The best thing to get Tim is annual car hire excess insurance. Costs about £50 a year and saves paying out for expensive car hire insurance.
Tim, NEVER EVER EVER take the additional insurance at the desk. If you had this trip planned...a few seconds online back at home and an independent insurance company would giver you the same but probably better cover for around £15 to £20. You got stung there...sorry.
You can also buy an annual excess insurance. Very cheap !

Nice video Tim , I have stayed in this hotel before its decent but I am puzzled to see it often at number 1 rated on trip advisor thought food was average but rooms nice.
Totally agree i was planning to do that kind of videos on it then realised it was the best
It used to be a family run hotel.Some hotels and apartments are still owned by Families in the Resort.
Just as an FYI. I use Lara cars for Spanish car hire from Alicante
Brilliant. Everything is covered under one price. Just normal tyre damage or fines need paying
They meet you and you pay for the car on pick up and no extras to cover with dings or deposit needed.
Drop off is leave the key in car in a designated area and travel home.

I did the same trip last thur, flight to alicante, car hire and drive to my place near el campello. For all on here a good car hire company is EDI car hire, no big deposits taken from your card, no hidden extras just a really good service with no hassle

@@WalkWithMeTim are you aware of EDI car hire? One of the team actually waits for you to arrive in the multistory car park and sometimes they just leave the key in the car unlocked
Tim if you are off to Zante you just have to do the little road train ride from Alykanas called Trainaki especially if you are taking the family!
I buy an annual car hire excess policy which is a lot cheaper than buying the hire company insurance & have also used a Amex Platinum in the past which has insurance against any hire car damage which I have used & was paid out very quickly.

Things have really changed at Luton Airport there wasn't much there in the 70's when we went to Alicante. The train from Luton looks great.

I stayed in the hotel helios with my parents back in 1988!!!
The DART shuttle is a game changer regarding Luton Airport despite the cost. It means you can park your car cheaply at a nearby railway station and get the train and shuttle to the airport and back in relative comfort compared to the old bus system for less than long term parking on short trips.
Also whatever redesigns they have done to the airport in the last few years or so has made it more pleasurable to get around, I'd pick it over Stansted or Gatwick anytime.
High end shops in airports due to tax deductible reasons making (in theory) prices slightly cheaper.
Can't wait to see more of Benidorm. Another place to consider visiting. The hotel is quite nice. It appears to have everything you need in your clean room. Can't wait to see Bernidorm.

I am going to Benidorm for 7 nights on July 23,staying at The Riviera. It will be my 9th visit and 8th different hotel. I only went to the Melia twice because it was covid times and I wanted somewhere with its own indoor pool as it was Christmas time both times I went and too cold for the outside pool. I have been looking at The Helios for Christmas 2023 as it has a heated outdoor pool.
I was traveling with Ryan Air only once. And I don't remember where I was going. It was either Alicante as well or Bulgaria. But it was fine. There were no drinks or food included which is normal nowadays. So it was alright.
I dread the airport being busy.. You're right, it seems to be worse early morning and people are frustrated and ruder.. 🤷🏻♀️ Always enjoy taking a trip with you, Tim.. Loved this vlog ✈👍

I'd be interested to know if the Zakynthos shipwreck tours are any better these days. I went on one around 24 years ago and wasn't that impressed. The boat left really early in the morning and my sister and I had been up till the silly hours of the morning drinking in our all inclusive hotel. Needless to say, we felt quite sick on the ship which was very rocky as it didn't go out to see at all and just hugged the edge of the island to the cove. the tour came with lunch which consisted of sweaty ham and cheese rolls. We arrived at the cove and there were loads of other ships there. At this point you could get out and have a swim (very carefully as there were lots of boats docked here) but because there are so many other boats that all have set schedules, you can't stay for long. I seem to remember it being around half an hour to an hour. Then it was time to go. The beaches at Zakynthos are beautiful though. Golden sands and the sea is so warm and calm.

There is a train from Alicante near the airport goes to Benidorm takes 16 minutes and costs 2 euros.
People are always stressed at airports Tim. Usually because they are late, or have screaming kids LOL 😊

We hired a red Fiat 500 from Birmingham Airport, great little cars & plenty of luggage space if you fold the back seats down! 👍

The mini train taking you from part of Luton Airport seems so novel to me, & it seemed quite a long journey from one part to the other.
I guess its getting so busy in Airports in the summer Months!

The balcony was nice but those High Rise Buildings outside look like they've seen better days.
Bathroom so clean, small but compact i like the fact the Hairdryer is in the Bathroom instead of the Bedroom for convenience.
Room looks lovely & clean & a nice neutral decor.
And Wow you said there was a Nightclub in the Hotel aswell!

Hi, i have indeed stayed at the same hotel with my family a few years back, I always believed that the hotel was named after a balloon 😂 but then I realised.
Hello Tim,food was expensive but when you need food and something to drink.Alicante looks so beautiful when the sun is out,the room has a nice setup with a view from the balcony.

You can save a lot of money by buying an annual hire car excess insurance to save being ripped off by the hire car companies. I have protection with my credit card too.

Thanks for the insight into the new dart system. Flying into Luton in July. Looking forward to using this, it's a real game changer for the airport. Using the link bus was a nightmare. Your right about early morning flights, airports are crammed, no seats and less options for breakfast.
As always, greatly enjoyable and interesting. Unfortunately, in today's world, many people are only interested in themselves and have no time for others. Although, perhaps, a little expensive I would agree with your thoughts on the car insurance. (Bias alert! I spent all but a few months of my entire working life in - motor insurance!)

LOL, whilst you were arriving at Alicante, we were 7 gates along waiting for our delayed flight home. You were lucky to only have a half hour delay, ours was 2 and a half late thanks to the strikes.

Great video, Tim. I love the fiat 500! I thought the hotel was ok but it could have been anywhere - if you hadn’t got that little bottle of olive oil and the balcony, it could have been a clean travelodge room!

They have high end shops in airports as its duty free, so prices are a bit lower. Also, people going on holiday have more behaviour intent to purchase treats for themselves :) I tend to buy my fragrances ay airports.
I buy from poundland lol I used buy the expensive ones but I want my money to go further so I can travel more! and that's what I'm doing abroad and the UK.

Hey! On some mastercard gold or above, car insurance on a hire car is included on the card if you pay with that card. Try look it up, what the terms are at your bank on the difference cards. Nice vlog like always.

I once was in Liverpool staying at a hotel and had a coffee at breakfast outside and watched Rylan with a huge suitcase trying to get it in the boot of a - presumably hired - 500. he turned it this way and that several times until after about 20mins he and a PA worked out the rear seats were folding and the case WOULD fit lol
