This convinced me to buy a Dunhill. After searching for a while I got my hands on a 70's Tanshell in really bad shape. I got it back from renovations last week and it's the best pipe I've ever smoked.
great pipe! I have purchased a few dunhill estate pipes from eBay and they are excellent pipes. yes the new ones are too pricey for me but the used pipes are great too. thanks for the videos. enjoy!
seeing the utter joy on your face and you trying not to grin like the Cheshire cat , nice to see someone so happy Its just a bit older than me but in much better shape cheers Brad
That! Right there! The little smirk you got while smoking that pipe. The moment everything else in the world drifted away, that's why we do what we do. Stay smokey my friend, stay smokey.
there are few things better than admiring the beauty in things that you have a genuine appreciation for, like walking into a music shop and drooling at sexy guitars. That pipe is beautiful! It's prestige just adds to it. I once bought a Parker Duofold Fountain pen aged 61 years old. I just stare at it wondering why it's simplicity is just so stunning, wondering of it's journey through those years. I can see you're truly gripped with this pipe and it has been a pleasure watching this marriage of Man & Pipe. May you forever hold her, and love her....through good times and bad. ❤
I admit it. It is gorgeous. What an amazing gift. Your look while you smoked your inaugural bowl was priceless. Merry Christmas, Happy Birthday, congratulations.
Bradley amazing Video a beautiful Dunhill 62. I love Dunhill and your right those years Dunhill was in thier prime. Sir Richard came along later to bring Dunhill back to these years Awesome . Now you can join the White spot club by sending off to Dunhill ! Cheers
I just got my first Peterson System pipe last week (an XL315 with gorgeous bird's-eye) and I had a smirk not unlike yours while smoking it for a very long time. I can only imagine the feeling you're getting with this Dunhill! To a lifetime of great smokes with that beauty, Bradley. Stay well
Crazy little thing called Love...it´s a wonderful Pipe :) Once a year we all should clean out our Pipes and sorting out one or two we dont like that much ...so we always got the Space for a new one to fall in love with :) Could be called the "Pipe-Destroying-Day" or something like that ;) *God save the Pipe!!*
Hello Bradley wowww I am so happy for you so glad that you finally got a Dunhill pipe it is gorgeous Bradley and I already knew what tobacco you would use Elizabethan mixture ur favorite enjoy it and make more memories to add on to the ones from 52 years ago Happy smoking my friend ☺☺☺☺💨💨💨💨 best regards Peter

Well Dear Bradley, I'm happy for you, you should real deserve this pipe, In past I had a used dunhill briar, but sold it to Germany the moment when i was renovating my entire pipecollection of 10 pipes, often I'm thinking by myself if I was a very well off person I'd get rind of all my medium priced pipes and then eventually replacing them all with Dunhill brand pipes right ordering them from england , Happy puffing and take care , Paul
Everyone deserves at least one high quality item such as Dunhill and a really good Fountain Pen - perhaps a Mont Blanc. I have neither, but I'm gonna someday :) Congrats on the pipe! ...and oh, a really nice turntable - VPI!
Congrats on the wonderful gift! May it bring you many happy smokes. I have virtually that same pipe, a 1963 but with a saddle bit. Chelsea Morning borders on the transcendent in that pipe. Great videos, the effort is appreciated. Also, a tip of the hat to the gift giver.
I have two, although the second is kind of a mystery. A lot of the markings have been obliterated, you can just see the Dun on the base of the pipe. It's a paneled billiard. It was a real mess when I got it. I've had to have it restored, but it was such a pretty pipe it was worth the effort of buying and having cleaned up ... I did get it for a decent price. Yours is quite the fine specimen though! Happy smokes, Bradley!
I can't take the credit. Max, AKA Defiant Pipes did the work ... and it was quite a job. I'm getting the pipe back today, there will be video if you have time and inclination. :-)
I love all of your videos . they are so Formative and I learn so much from you. I like Petersons mainly . I have some Dunhills great pipe . Please Keep your videos going and best Wishes to you and Happy New Year Bradley

Beautiful pipe enjoy it some really mean people just took my Peterson and viking from my car two favorites never had a dunhill they are like holy grail of the pipe to me
Congrats my friend. I have 2 a group 5 and group 3 both straight billiard. Classic and by far my favorite pipes!!! Enjoy my friend. Great smokes are in your future!!
Pipes, guns, and Dark Souls, you're my kind of guy! Elizabethan is my favorite Dunhill blend as well, and, in my opinion, one of the most effortless tobaccos to smoke. Don't have a Dunhill pipe yet, a couple of Ashtons is as close as I've come (and among my favorites), looking forward to the day when that perfect Dunhill and my bank account come together to create that experience for me. Gratz on yours and thanks for the vid!
Hi Bradley. Your enthusiasm and your excellent pipe videos brought you this pipe. The previous owner knows it is in the very best hands and will be in the same condition in another 54 years (You lucky B*****d)
Congratulations Mr. Bradley! Magic Eraser dampened with 99% RA will remove that oxidation and leave the stem looking brand new. Gentle tight circles and be careful around the white dot.
If I remember correctly from my pipe making/repair days, the White Dot is an inlay. It's a solid piece that goes through the wall of the stem. So there is no need to worry about rubbing it off, etc. I would still use caution when being aggressive as you want the shape to remain the same. Nice classic shape. I've been toying with the idea of making pipe smoking videos as well. I like what you've done so far. Enjoy it in good health.
Great Dunny! Peterson is very well known for more robust thicker chunkier shapes. I like a lot of their shapes, but I agree that some of them would look nicer trimmed down a bit.
"Servus" Bradley, i follow your channel for quite some time and this is my first comment thanks to your new beauty. What a georgeous pipe! Thumbs up. By the way great work. I really appreciate your vids. I love your content and my gilrfriend likes your voice. I guess it's a win win situation. ;-) Greetings from Germany Flo
The numbers were in use in 1962 but LB was used for "large billiard," a specific shape in the line. K was a large apple. The LB is quite sought after today. In the 60's slimmer shapes were more popular and thus easier to find today. LB gets a premium on Ebay. The box is from the 1980's. Congrats.
I was referring to the 4 digit shape code used after 1976. www.pipephil.eu/logos/en/dunhill/shapes-l.html They also had an LBS for a longer billiard. Thanks for watching!
I want to buy a Dunhill from the year of my birth 1949. I've only found one so far and it looked as if it fought in Korean and Vietnam. The dollar amount was ok but not for that pipe. FYI, if you haven't already tried it, you may want to try Renaissance Wax/Polish your pipes and stems. According to the CEO of the waxes you mentioned, Ren Wax is what they make their waxes from. Plus, Ren wax is what the England's Royal museum uses to protect their valuable items from paper to wood to metal. It's what I use and its price is right when compared to the two waxes you used in this video.
I bloody knew it. Of course it would've been Elizabethan to smoke in this beauty. On that note I was out in town yesterday buying clothes and decided to go into the only good tobacconist to buy ONLY PIPE CLEANERS. Well, you know how it went. I left with Elizabethan in the bag. The lady at the counter said it became quite popular recently and I'm thinking to myself "Really? Is it because there's so many people on you tube commending it?" Or maybe it is just that damn good that you just cannot disregard it? Anyways had a bowl yesterday after watching your first/original review of it and I'd say I don't get much fruit on the palate from it but then again I am realy bad at tasting those nuances. I also feel it is quite strong rather than mild. After a full bowl I have a bit of a gulp on the back of my throat and I'm not a lightweight as Nightcap for example doesn't do that to me. It is a first class tobacco though. Without any doubt.
Welcome to the Dunhill club, once you pick up a Dunhill, every other pipe appears inferior. P.S. someone told me that the classic billiard is one of the hardest shape to make.
What an awesome gift! Such an absolutely beautiful pipe. Very cool. I hope we hear more about it in the future. I'd like to know if you find differences in its smoking quality and how it compares to your other pipes down the line. Thanks for sharing the inaugural smoke with us.
Heh! It's fun watching you wax poetic about the beautiful, perfect proportions of the pipe. I'm a newbie to the hobby, and can't appreciate what it is you see in this particular pipe, but you've introduced me to the concept, so I'll look at pipes more carefully, now. If you don't mind my asking, what is this one worth? Are Dunhill pipes super expensive? Oh, never mind - I took a look. Yow! From ~$400 to over $1000. Are used Dunhills in good condition from certain eras more or less expensive? I think I get it now: pipes can be thought of as collectibles. Never thought of 'em that way, but, yeah. As Mr. Spock would say, "Fascinating."
Well, concrats io this pipe. If is njce to use something that old. Also nice to see how you follow the same route we did. :) First there were Savinelli and Peterson and we thought they were good - and they are in some way. Next we developed up to Castello and Dunhill and soon when religion expectations were wipe out by reality we understood that there no big difference. And soner of later we ended up with pipes whichh are handmade by pipe artisians especially for us by out request. I wonder when you will come to that stage. :) Always interesting to see your videos. Good luck!
STUFFandTHINGS You really sold me on this pipe, great video. I like your appreciation for the finer things in life, yes that pipe is a complete work of art and a masterpiece!
Just purchased a Castello Sea Rock 17, based on your video of the Castello that you have. After watching this, I'll be purchasing a Dunhill next. I was going to get another Castello next, because I love the one I have so much, but I'm going Dunhill next time. I'll get another Castello, after the Dunhill. What decade do you suggest I buy a Dunhill in? I was thinking 20s, or 30s, (because Im obsessed with that era) but maybe 60s is a better pipe?
Outstanding, and congratulations! Without revealing anything of the benefactor, would you mind explaining a bit of the circumstance or framework of such a special gift? Thanks, and enjoy!
I'm looking at a new pipe for Xmas. I've got a bit of a budget, I'm looking at either grabbing another Peterson and a Savinelli, but for that price I could also grab a dunhill. Any thoughts?! Are the dunhill worth it?
So, aside from not clenching and getting a rubber mouthpiece, is there a way to avoide bite marks? Have you had a video on clenching, etc? Also, what are your feelings on meerschaum pipes? Thanks and congradulations on the pipe! I'm not a fan of billiards but the sandblast I do love. (Maybe these are all for the next Q&A?)
Thanks! If you clench your vulcanite pipe stem without a rubber bit, you WILL get bite marks. It's just the way it is. The stems were actually designed to be soft on your teeth and deform a bit.
Congrats on your first Dunhill, probably won't be your last. Over the years I've picked up 4, one Shell, 2 Cumberlands and one Tanshell, all estate purchases of course. Oddly, none of them are classic billiards. Two of them are panel billiards, one group 5 Zulu which is awesome and a group 3 pot. You occasionally get a dose of "what does that do that a Dr Grabow won't" but that's fine, haters will hate. My answer is always the same, "it makes me happier is what."
Bradly, I'v got to thank you for spotting out the number two on the right of " made in England " stamp. I then walked over to my pipe rack and found my Dunhill shell and discovered that I also, have the very same pipe. Zero four S 1962. Yes, it's one of my favorites. It's only used for a morning smoke. Smokes like a dream. Question. What's a pipe like mine and yours go for now?
Happy for you! :) I far as I know you have only talked about larger pipe companies, you aren´t interested in individual pipemakers? There are many great in my neighbour country Denmark that I like, but also in the US even though I have less knowledge about them.
I'm not a collector, so I don't go out of my way to try to track down the custom pipes, not to mention how expensive they usually are. I certainly wouldn't mind owning some of them though.
wow that's great ! it's beautiful .. Bradley i've recently bought a Peterson pipe Rock of Caschel. It's a n°263 (Canadian) what do you think about this pipe ?
Congratulations! Really winderful piece. I have couple of Dunhill in my collection and although they smoke very well I still prefer my Castello'. I think every pipe manufacturer has its own philosofy on how to build a pipe and which briar to use and sometimes they say that the briar of Dunhills or Petersons is harder than the Castello ones allowing a better experience with EM blands where Castello being softer are very good with Burley or Kentucky. What do you think? Do you see some truth in it or not?
love the videos, been watching you since about the start. I have a pipe like this, about the same age but after the LB there is a F/T and I am having trouble finding out what that means, if you have the free time to tell me thanks.
This convinced me to buy a Dunhill. After searching for a while I got my hands on a 70's Tanshell in really bad shape. I got it back from renovations last week and it's the best pipe I've ever smoked.
Correction: I researched the stamps and it's from '62. Joy!
Nice score!
Your enjoyment at 10:50 :))) thats what it's all about :))) so good to see someone so happy :)

Just a very generous gift.
But not one word on the taste...
Did the oil curing make it different, compared to the Castello air cured?
Did it taste nutty?
magical white spot.just a mindgame.
I'm looking at a new pipe for Xmas. I've got a bit of a budget, I'm looking at either grabbing another Peterson and a Savinelli, but for that price I could also grab a dunhill. Any thoughts?! Are the dunhill worth it?
I can't speak for all Dunhills from every era, but mine is certainly a beauty and definitely worth it in my opinion.
What do you think about soaking old pipes in whiskey to revive them?
Congrats on your first Dunhill, probably won't be your last. Over the years I've picked up 4, one Shell, 2 Cumberlands and one Tanshell, all estate purchases of course. Oddly, none of them are classic billiards. Two of them are panel billiards, one group 5 Zulu which is awesome and a group 3 pot. You occasionally get a dose of "what does that do that a Dr Grabow won't" but that's fine, haters will hate. My answer is always the same, "it makes me happier is what."
Good answer!
Nice! I haven't priced them in a while, but I would guess over $300.
I just got a 1968 Dunhill just like yours for $240 in mint condition with f/t stem, Score!!!!!
I wasn’t interested in dunhills due to price until I watched your videos and searched for pre 1970 era. Awesome pipe
Happy for you! :)
I far as I know you have only talked about larger pipe companies, you aren´t interested in individual pipemakers?
There are many great in my neighbour country Denmark that I like, but also in the US even though I have less knowledge about them.
I'm not a collector, so I don't go out of my way to try to track down the custom pipes, not to mention how expensive they usually are. I certainly wouldn't mind owning some of them though.
wow that's great ! it's beautiful .. Bradley i've recently bought a Peterson pipe Rock of Caschel. It's a n°263 (Canadian) what do you think about this pipe ?
I don't have any experience with that particular pipe, but I like Petersons in general.
It's hard for me to say as I only have one each of Dunhill and Castello, but I'm really impressed with both.
That Dunhill box is certainly from totally different decade (from 1993-1994 onwards)
You've arrived.
Hey Brad.... could you tell us something about Mr. Brog Pipes...? Thanks for your videos I really enjoy them.

Its beautiful! Well it might be time for you to dedicate a pipe to a specific tobacco. You should only smoke Elizebethan Mixture in that Dunhill.
Perhaps!
love the videos, been watching you since about the start. I have a pipe like this, about the same age but after the LB there is a F/T and I am having trouble finding out what that means, if you have the free time to tell me thanks.
I'm afraid I don't know off the top of my head, but there are MANY sites dedicated to Dunhill markings. I'm sure you'll be able to find out.
STUFFandTHINGS fish tail, i think. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I hope you feel better soon. I'll smoke a bowl of Elizabethan for you.
Agreed
