It had a 350 bored 60 over, TH400 auto trans(w/shift kit)and 3000 stall, MSD ignition, holley carb, roller rockers, performance cam, positraction rear. etc. It would out run anything I raced against in the street. I would give a friend a ride, stop in the street and floor the gas pedal. They always would have a scared look on their faces.

I drive my RX-7 hard when I take her out. I frequently shift 1st to 4th or 2nd to 5th, drop to neutral and engine brake in current gear and downshifting. Just depend on what the conditions call for and the mood I'm in. I like demonstrating you can use all 8000 rpm on the street, legally even in 1st and 2nd.

You're doing fine, Nick. If you were a clunker or grinder with the gears a lot of us couldn't watch. And it is harder on the clutch and components to downshift all the time.
I'm no expert but I believe the downshifting saves your brakes a tad? Less gross weight bearing down on just the pads or whatever....I drive my jeep GC in sport mode and it downshifts hard so I never needed pads in like 6 years now lol... edit: lifted on meaty 33s

You don’t put it in neutral in an automatic because the torque convert basically does that for you🤣 you don’t downshift unless hauling a load. Downshifting you’re stop put a lot of extra unnecessary stress on the transmission itself

Yes but automatics have auto clutches. You,re saving clutch life by going to neutral. Downshifting is pointless and wears on the clutch.
