    In this video, I talk about the preparation I made and the strategy I used to be able to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from WGU in exactly 2 months. From the time I registered to the time I graduated was exactly 2 months, however a lot of preparation work went into being able to do this, and I'll talk about this in this video.

      Hey I’ve got some really great news to share with you, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on a cross and resurrected on the third day so you may all have eternal life. If you believe and repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in Him as you would a parachute jumping off a plane at 25000 feet up in the air, He will give you eternal life in heaven as a free gift and I promise you, He will change your life forever as He did mine. He is the ONLY way to heaven and He loves you all. Please think deeply about this with urgency because this is your eternal life and soul, you don’t know when you could die, meaning you could die at any moment, so please consider this with all your heart. If anyone tells you that Jesus isn’t the only way, they are lying to you and they don’t care about your future.

    I have my education benefits from the military. I want to use them to get a good paying job, but I've been programming since I was 11, started C++ when I was 14 and have done small projects myself for years. Mainly video game mods via DLL injectors. I think my experience would help me blast through a lot of the main course material. It is a very real prospect that I could have a bachelors in CS done in a year or so. Hmm...
    You've given me a lot to think about. Thanks!

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like you have a great background and I think you could go through it pretty fast! It does have a decent amount of math though, so there's that. But if you want to avoid the math, then you could go with the Software Dev course as well. Either one is gonna be great. I def don't regret getting my CS degree from WGU as it was quick (but kind of painful, haha)

    Wow Josh, this is the best thing I've run across in years. I thought it was going to be clickbait and a scam not gonna lie.
    Im close to graduation in Mechanical Engineering at a local state university, but my internships and campus projects have shown me that I have a big interest in computer science. Its not the money that motivates me, but I do see that I can justify paying to pursue further education and opportunities in it because I see software developers getting paid double what I'd get paid at the companies I've interned at (mainly medical devices and consumer electronics).
    I was genuinely considering staying at my university for another 3 years, but this way saves me time and ~$25k out of pocket, even accounting for the certificates and pre game studying subscriptions.
    Thank you for putting this together

  • @JJSmalls
    @JJSmalls ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I'm glad I stumbled on this. I already have a degree with a minor in CS, but I've been having a tough time getting a job because I never took algorithms or discrete math in college. I feel like I'm getting passed over just because I don't have a CS degree specifically. That, and my technical interview skills are in the gutter.
    I already applied for the BS CS program, eagerly waiting to see what classes I have left to take and will knock out some of them via the methods you mentioned before hand.
    I feel like not having a CS degree is gate keeping me right now.

    I think it's important to note that when you are transferring in credits for an IT-related course the degree/courses need to be within 5 years of the transcript evaluation. I tried transferring a Computer Networking degree I got 6 years ago and they didn't accept any of the IT-related courses in my program.

      Hey Wayne! Swe/dev probably has more remote but most of tech can be done remote so you can pretty much go with whatever path you want. I’d definitely pick the path based on your interests (which might develop/change along the way).
      CS math is a pain in the ass, but just because you’re 6th grade math now doesn’t mean you have to be 6th grade math forever! Shoot, we didn’t even know how to count at one point and look at us now. It will just take you a few months on khan academy to catch up. But going cyber is fine too.
      I personally like CS better than IT, and IT better than cyber, but that’s just me, haha
      Cloud would be a solid choice if you want to get a high paying job kinda fast (lookup Cloud support engineer on indeed)
      From there, you can easily pivot to wherever you want. (Coding, cyber, etc.)

    For someone who doesn’t have any real IT experience, would you recommend something like scripting and programming at straighter line to get an idea on whether a career in IT might be a good fit? What are your thoughts

    • @LuisMedina-yq5fd
      @LuisMedina-yq5fd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not really scripting and programming is exactly that, programming/software engineering. It can be used in the IT side but usually won't be needed for early stuff. You need to gain a understanding of the basics first. The A+ coursework would cover that and Net+ or CCNA. Look up professor Messer and watch his A+ videos. IT is more troubleshooting end user issues, network issues, or hardware and some software issues.
      Scripting won't really be needed until you're doing Admin stuff or if you want to automate installs or simple stuff you do but at entry level the company would not ask you to do that.

I'd love some advice and your thoughts on a Computer Science Degree vs a Cybersecurity degree from WGU . I know Cyber has more certs involved, but the cost between WGU and my current college are within 1000$ per semester. I got my Network + and Security + (both expired now) , back in Highschool in 2016. I feel like I'd like Cybersecurity more, plus having a mentor to help guide you through the courses would be better. I know you started in Cybersecurity, but do you think it's better to start with CS first? I've also worked in helpdesk positions on and off since high school. I hope to hear back thanks!

      Hey Gabe, thanks for watching my videos!! I think I saw you in my junk stream today right? Lol, thanks for showing up. A CS degree isn't necessary to work in Cyber, but it is _really_ nice to have--it also takes the most time and energy to get as well, so there's that. The CS degree will come in handy if you are trying to get into reverse engineering, malware analysis, and application security. If you have no interest in those, you might be better off getting the normal Cyber degree if you want to save some time/energy. It's really just up to you though! The CS degree is great, but hard.

      Maybe if I were put on the spot I'd say something like 4-5 hours a day per class. The way I study for WGU requires some explaining. Because I know the Objective Assessments are multiple choice, I don't study all the material into the ground 100%, but I do study it decently enough to be able to discern the wrong answers on the multiple choice tests. I go into the test know that I don't know everything, and I just do my best to pass. Some of the classes were SUPER hard and took way more than a week, like DS/Algos 2, DM2, Calculus, and Software 2, but for the rest (OA)s, must of them took about a week or less.

    I see you talked about pre-gaming the courses. I applied at WGU and before I am allowed to see any of the classes they have to accept me as a student. since I haven't been accepted yet (needing the precalc that I don't have) they will not allow me to see the classes in the compsci program at WGU. They may have picked up on people doing this and closed off the class details until you are enrolled. Im doing the precalc elsewhere right now but I thought this was interesting that they hide the class schedule until they accept you as a student. Also important to note.. They do not have open enrollment at WGU. You can only start your classes in Sept of each year. So if you see this in Jan and want to get started right away you won't be able to.
