      I am concerned about programming is that involved in the class, I want to start in January though really concerned if I can pass the degree with the programming and grammar. How hard is web development ? I am very much concerned about this course Scripting and Programming - Foundations and Network and Security - Foundations . Also is it possible they will let me skip all the other certifications and so I graduate fast in less then 4 months

    Nice to see you back! Man people in Reddit are silly. The whole point of WGU was to provide a place for work professionals who know their stuff get their degrees fast through a competency based program since there are many well seasoned professionals stuck with years of knowledge and competence but just don't have a degree to say "Ok here. Is that enough proof?". And that don't have time to be sitting around for 3-5 years for a degree that they know almost everything on through real life experience and just may need to fill in some gaps here and there. If you know your stuff then you'll pass fast that is what competency based means.
    If you are new to it then you'll have to study and take longer simple as that like the CS math stuff you took 3 weeks on. An analogy of your situation would be a Mathematician going into CS and runs into that class, he'd probably get through it in a day or 2 like you did the MS Cyber Security classes. You got years of experience and even a CISSP. I would be surprised if you DIDNT take advantage of getting it done as quick as you could. Glad to hear a lot of what is taught reflects real world stuff. I'm halfway done with my Bachelor's in Cyber Security and am gunning on that Masters afterwards. Appreciate your videos man, no way I would have given WGU a chance without your videos.
    Also sidenote: People get certs in a few days. If there are some people that get those in a few days or within a month of studying without breaking too much of a sweat. Does that make say a OSCP cert or a CISSP cert less valued?

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, thanks so much for the kind words, really appreciate it. I'm glad to hear you're working your way through the BSCS--it's really great to finally check that box. And great plan going straight into the MS. I'm really glad to hear the videos helped out and provided at least some kind of value, haha.
      _> Also sidenote: People get certs in a few days. If there are some people that get those in a few days or within a month of studying without breaking too much of a sweat. Does that make say a OSCP cert or a CISSP cert less valued?_
      It kinda depends I guess. Certs are a little bit different because there is usually a lot of trivia involved or some specific technology where it's more difficult to pass in a short amount of time. I guess it depends on the cert. But if an NSA red teamer (for example) were to pass OSCP without studying, I wouldn't really be that surprised. Same as if a seasoned InfoSec manager managed to pass CISSP without studying. The thing with certs is, there isn't really an obvious indicator when somebody "started" studying for the cert, unlike with degrees, where people will typically list the start and end date. I kinda feel like I said a whole bunch of nothing here lol, but maybe you can see my thinking on the topic a bit!
      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

    Great video, as someone who is 1 year in the program, and just about to complete C795 - I am on the normal pace to finish in 4 terms. I have IT experience, but no real security experience, other than being forced to monitor a firewall for a small business. I can say, it honestly makes sense that you were able to finish this so quickly, you already have almost all of the background needed since almost all of the reading is straight from the CISSP book. Feels a bit shitty to think you finished this in 12 days and I am taking 2 years, but hey we all learn at different paces.

I think that really goes to show that someone with experience and knowledge in the degree curriculum can go into this and complete it without having to spend 2 more college years goes to show how beneficial WGUs program can be. Taking what you already know and turning it into something like a Masters degree is awesome, it doesn't devalue the program at all. Joe Schmoe off the streets wouldn't be able to make this happen the same way you did.

Trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the remaining 12 months of benefit and was thinking about this Cyber Security Masters. The lengthy technical essays in this masters program are doing a great job of deterring me from doing it; maybe I'll just leave the remaining 12 month of GI Bill hanging and start searching for my big boy job.

    Hi Josh! :D
    I know this video is a few months old but I was wondering what were your thoughts on me obtaining this Master’s after I obtain the BS in Cloud Computing. I’m not really aiming to work in Cyber, but I am looking to supplement (& certify) my Cloud Security knowledge by going for this degree. Or should I just go for an MS in Cloud Computing instead (thinking of UMGC)? Thank you in advance for reading & responding.

    • @JoshMadakor
      @JoshMadakor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! If you're just looking for a budget Master's to supplement your cloud knowledge with some security, this is probably a good choice for that. If you don't really care about having a masters degree, I might recommend getting CISSP. It may take less time, be cheaper, and probably help your resume more than a master's will, especially in terms of getting interviews and help with HR. Just my 2c. As for the other masters, for _ME_ personally, I wouldn't bother getting a masters degree unless I can do it FAST and for relatively cheap. It's really unclear to me how much they really help careers in IT/Tech. Certain jobs/industries they matter, but not for most jobs in tech, I donno. I rambled a lot here, sorry haha. Good luck ;)

    • @JoshMadakor

Some of the classes are a pain in the ass (CEH and the forensics class). The capstone is easy and pretty much most of the other non-exam classes. Feel free to DM me on IG or email me directly (email is on my channel) for the non-exam classes if you need any times.
