Now heading that way again! Hunters Road from Nth (starting somewhere North of Senyati Camp) down as fast as Elephant Sands. Where do we head off A.33 to find it & where to leave to rejoin A.33 & Elephant Sands ? Some clues would help. I have no idea, Sept,of 2025 ! 3 x Land Cruisers.
Hi Marschliono, Urban driving should be no problem, although depending on the engine size your fuel economy may differ. we are looking at getting the Navara pro 4x to review. sadly - we have not been given the opportunity for some light off-road testing and reviewing by their agency. if you are in the market for a well-built bakkie. You should look at Mitsubishi, Toyota and Ford too. To see what would give you the best advantages. Remember, as standard these off-road vehicles are capable on basic 4x4 tracks that are graded 1 only. For trails and routes graded 2-5, you will need aftermarket accessories if you wish to make it home unscathed. such as suspension upgrades, tyres, winches and recovery gear.
Yes I would. I owned the LE which is simillar to the stealth trim here, and now the pro4x. Crossed ckgr with LE no problem, and off road it outperforms the Hilux, Ford, and Isuzu - I know because I was pulling them out a lot. I havnt had the chance to compare Pro4x with other brands, but it does seem to outperfom the previous LE or stealth quite significantly. Keep in mind that the New Navaras for Botswana have leaf springs, and an auto locking mechanical rear diff - there is no button, it just comes in automatically when there is a hint of wheel slip. This could be why the pro4x seems a lot sharper than stealth or previous LE. The RSA model for pro4x are different with same coil sprung rear and a push button diff lock
@@elg5870 Thanks so much for your input El G, have you have any aftermarket accessories fitted to your LE model? tyres, suspension, canopies, etc? We'd love to know!
@@SA4x4online not the pro4x, its stock standard. The LE I had put toughdog suspension after the original was worn out. This gave a 1inch or so suspension lift. The tyres I changed before it got out of the showroom to BFG KO2, later Deegan 38 All Terrain, then lastly Michelin LTX force, the Michelin was best especially in sand because it floats. The Pro4x I started with Grandtrek at25, quickly changed to Terrafirma which quite aggressive, but quickly went back to at25 but slightly larger diameter than original. From my experience, unless punctures are a serious concern and u do lots and lots of mud, it is better to stick to the softy HT like tyres, especially sand
@@elg5870 Thanks El. yeah, the first step in any adventure is planning and ofcourse Tyres. Plus it seems you know yours a lot better than some. 😉 your experience is clear. We use the AT25's purely because of the trails we venture on. We will be using the Brutus tyres when we head back up to Hunters Road later this year and we are very much looking forward to those tests. May we cheekily ask what year did you fit the Tough Dog suspension. Can you remember the vague installation and parts costs? its always nice to compare.😛
I was under the impression that using the Hunters Rd was Banned, due to its preferred status by Poachers and it was patrolled by Armed Rangers. Right or am I wrong and you were lucky - great timing.
Thanks WildlifeObsessed, Unfortunately we cannot say for sure on wether the terrain/route was or was not used by poachers in the past or present, however we have also heard that folk tale before. we have seen a few rangers on our excursions, and they have been extremely tight-lipped about their patrolling. Understandably. This was really a fantastic trip! and you can rest assured, we enjoyed every second of the adventure! :D
Just a pity that people go to Bots to "to play in some proper mud". Bots has such wonderful wildlife, then you get some @#$holes that want to - maybe show their manhood - ag shame!!!!!!
Thanks Nico. Yeah, you do get all kinds of weird and wonderful people in this world. Earth is certainly not short on *****s either. ;) For our excursion we wanted to test our vehicle capabilities along Hunters road before heading to the rest of central Africa. The two weeks of rain made for an excellent testing scenario as you never know what mother Africa will throw at you when you're countries away from home ;) Are there any particular campsites that you would personally recommend in Botswana?

land rover never makes it back in one piece!
We think it depends on which model of Land Rover you have, and also how you treat it ;)
