Fun fact: Muaythai was invented around the mid of 16th century in Ayutthaya period of Siam. (some says it can be traced back to 13th century). It developed from the battlefield tactics to make the soldiers as effective and deadly as possible, even without weapons. Muaythai is known as the “art of eight limbs” for the eight parts of the body that are used for striking and knock out the opponent: (for example fists, elbows, knees, and feet. etc.) This is the reason why Muaythai is so deadly powerful and brutal! Saaaame. I want to do it for the sake of self-defense and because it looks so awesome. Unfortunately there are no instructors here in my part of the Philippines so I have to wait to go back to the U.S. so I could tell my dad about it. Then when I come back to visit the Philippines, I now know how to defend myself from the guys here because the town I live in is relatively peaceful but can be damned terrifying when you have people that want to hurt you.

I practice Muay Thai myself. It's excellent for self-defense because of its straightforward yet powerful strikes and clinch moves. According to my sparring partner, if I were to go all out, I'd probably be sending my opponent to the hospital for broken ribs and multiple fractures. Getting hit by one of my kicks is like being struck with a baseball bat. Being honest here, if my instructor were to kick someone, it'd be like getting shot by a cannon.
can confirm, my roommate practices dutch roundhouse kicks (basically muay thai kicks) and him and I have sparred and even when he's not using all his power it'll knock me off balance. a full kick to the back of my knee swept me off my feet once lol
yeh alot of the guys at my gym even the leaner smaller people can pack serious power, If you develop the right muscles and get the technique down you can easily deliver kicks that would drop someone. Like when you hold pads for some people you get scared they are gonna injure your forearm through the pads they kick so hard. I swear our head instructor could full on just snap someones neck with a kick if lined up right.
It would be like getting shot by a cannon? Really? So it would blow a massive hole right thro a person and even cut someone right in half? Get the fuck outta here.
