2 of my favorite boxsets are 1979 and Ace of Spades 40th both by Motorhead. 1979 includes the studio albums Overkill and Bomber, 2 live albums associated with each album tour, a disc of alternate takes and demos, and a 7in single. Ace 40th includes the album, EP of instrumentals, 2 double live albums from the tour, a double album full of studio outtakes and rarities, a few goodies, and the packaging is incredible. Both well worth the money
Some of my favorite box sets that I own on vinyl are:
Guns and Roses - Appetite for Destruction
Beatles In Mono
Matchbox 20 - Twenty
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie
I definitely wish I had grabbed a copy of that mono Beatles box set when it was available. I remember picking it up a couple of times at the record store, but I always ended up putting it back.
I don’t do too many boxsets, maybe one every few years. Although not hard rock, I have a couple I want to mention.
The last boxset that I acquired is also one of my favorites. Craft Recordings’ Cookin’ with Jaws and The Queen (Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis with Shirley Scott) is awesome! (if you’re into that kinda Jazz)
Those two Lloyd Cole box sets from a few years back (Tapete Records) finally got me vinyl versions of some favorite albums.
My first boxset is still one of my faves - Dylan’s Biograph from the eighties.
That GNR boxset in the video is crazy.
I would of liked to of had posters of the artwok instead of posters of Ozzy.
Love the ones you listed - the GnR is a beast and is basically a piece of furniture (bought the smaller deluxe box too in a sale). The Pink Floyd: Early Years is a good box set (I like the Later Years one too), Prince's Sign O The Times, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath SDEs are all cool as are the big Metallica and Motorhead boxes, Beatles/Stones in Mono, so many great ones... really liked the Blondie "Against All Odds" box sets that came out last year.
I do preorders on a lot of the music including some box sets. I think it would be better to wait for a good deal on most, like the new Wasp box set coming in Oct. How do I save? I just get what I want and I do not buy everything. I do love a great box set though.
Some major sets here🤘 thanks for letting me check them out
How for $200?
chat is this real?
In general I am not a boxset fan, but I do have a few that I like, Rush Signals is a well put together box, the Stones Mono-box, the Alan Parsons Project boxset has a nice book, and most recently.....the Black Sabbath picture disc boxset, while not really any extra content, the discs look fantastic and they sound pretty good as well. Cheers
My favorites are Prince's 1999 and Sign of the Times. Really looking forward to the Diamonds and Pearls box set due next month. Big Prince fan. George Michael Older and Listen without Prejudice.
I wish I would have bought that Ozzy box set when it was released
Me too! It was available on his website for a while after releases, so unfortunately I doubt that they will ever reissue it.
Yep.. snooze you lose
you mentioned them at the end. The Rolling Stones, and Black Sabbath boxsets are incredible. Also if you're a fan of Social Distortion their box set of 4 albums that were released independently is also a must have.
That 4LP set from Social Distortion is another great one!
3 boxes of Bob Mould Distortion
I've read some great reviews of those boxes!
