I don't have many box sets, but my favourites are 20 Years of Jethro Tull (great selection of live and rare tracks, and a great book) and Nick Drake, Fruit Tree. I was lucky enough to find the 3LP UK box from 1979 and the US one from 1986 that has the fourth LP. Often you miss out, but sometimes you're in the right place at the right time!
I wish all those CD boxsets that came out 89- 2000ish would be released on vinyl. Journey - timecubed, acdc- bonfire, Kansas-sail on, Chicago 94 box or 2003box w/ dvd, 30 years of America, doobie Bros- long train running, earth wind fire-eternal dance, ELO - afterglow or flashback, Stevie Nicks- enchanted works, pretenders - pirate radio, Springsteen-tracks, zz top- chrome smoke BBQ, Billy Joel-my lives etc
I’ve been eyeing that Chris Cornell box set since it was released. I think your video just gave me the push to buy a copy. Tom Waits’ Orphans, Neko Case’s Truckdriver Gladiator Mule, and PJ Harvey’s B-Sides, Demos, & Rarities are my three favorite box sets. They’re all so well made and the attention to detail made them worth the price.
Man! You totally make me want that Grateful Dead Box Set and Im not even that much of a dead Fan. I just joined VMP to get the Ghetto Records Box Set - and I have loved their stuff. Love the video!
Just have three box sets, as most of what I listen to is obscure. My greatest treasure is a personalized "friendship edition" of L'Avenir "Shadow & Reflection", one of 21 copies ever made and literally has my name embossed in it. It is a hardcover box set, with a cool pull-out tab to get the record out of the hard case. Similar to Failure, I found a Grauzone Boxset. Also obscure, but a foreshadowing for German New Wave. Lots of fun commentary in the booklet, but you have to be able to read German: Eisbär (polar bear) was their one better known song, also available on youtube. Last but not least, Sonic Youth "Daydream Nation" with two additional live records in it. LOVE that record, so was happy to find the boxset. Would be happy to buy more, but nothing else has ever interested me.
I have that Sonic Youth box. That’s really a big peak for them. I have to say that I was skeptical of them in the early 90’s as a teen for the way they hung around younger, more popular bands to get attention, but they made some great stuff all the way through the end. The Eternal is great too.
Have 7 of their records all bought in the late 80s early 90s. Eventually got annoyed with their variant glut and commercialism. But had to get that box set last year.
Some sweet boxes there, I remember seeing Failure support Tool a few times over here in the UK back in the day. Was never hugely impressed by them live, will maybe give them another listen.
i got the helloween united alive in madrid box for like 80 bux, and was not expecting the insanely good quality, from the packaging to the vinyl itself.
I've got the Black Sabbath, Paranoid super deluxe box set, and just ordered Vol 4. The Paranoid one was $120 USD but worth it. It comes with 5 vinyls, a book and poster. The vinyls do play really well.
Maybe a dumb comment/question but what is the minimum size to be considered a box set ? Rearranging some records..got a few “boxes” that are maybe an inch wide don’t know if put them with my bigger box sets 🤷♂️
Not dumb at all! Guess it's really a personal preference and/or your shelving, but I typically will make that call based on the size of the box itself - because sometimes even single/double editions come in larger boxes (like UHQR or MoFi One Steps).
Apparently this isn't the video I'm looking for. I like getting nm or m- box sets from like reader's digest, columbia house, etc from the 70's & 80's. I can usually pick up an 8 album box set in perfect condition for anywhere between 10 and 35 bucks on ebay. If I want colored vinyl almost any album at Walmart has color, lol. There's no way on earth I would ever shell out the prices they ask for the type of boxed sets you're showing on here. Those types of sets aren't for listeners, they're for investors who like to imagine that they'll someday be worth enough to supplement their retirement, lol.
@@NTXVinyl There are exceptions to every rule. I like antiques, but I'm not interested in their worth and so I usually refinish them to bring out their beauty so I can actually enjoy having them and looking at them, but I'm the exception as most folks are afraid to refinish them because all that crud makes them more "desirable" somehow, lol.
Hell yeah! Was not expecting to see the Failure box set at the end! One of my personal favorites and includes amazing content!!!!

I was lucky enough to pick up the TEN box set for AU$5 brand new from a store that was clearing all physical media. My best vinyl purchase ever :D
