    I'm Posting these to track my progress as a rider, not really for entertainment. I think it will be neat to look back in a year to see the improvements I've made over time. My goal is to get 50 hours of seat time this year and enter my first race. I have about 15 hours of total seat time at the start of this video. I'm very aware that my skill level sucks and I'm open to suggestions on drills and ways to improve! You guys all ROOOCK and I hope you have a great week 🤘

    Yammie Noob just posted a video about why he rides alone. When you’re riding with someone faster than you, you’re more likely to get hurt trying to keep up with them. Your friend should have let you lead so you could go at your pace. One thing I learned when I ride dirt bikes years ago is to not try and fight the front wheel constantly. Let it float and go where it wants to go (within reason). Be safe bro.

      Thank you for the tips man - I cut the portion out of the video but Liam actually asked me to lead and I said no because I wanted to be pushed. Pretty sure he was riding at like a tenth of his capability 😅

      riding alone sucks and is dangerous . you get better riding with faster people and seeing what they do .

      @@867diesel I like riding alone on my street bike, but I do agree that it’s best to ride with someone on the trails. I do think that the less experienced rider should lead though to reduce the chance of getting hurt. Sabo crashed 3 times in this video. He was clearly feeling stressed trying to keep up with his buddy who was a much more experienced rider. A rider won’t get better if they’re laid up in the hospital because they over-pushed their limits. And I know this from experience 😅

    Seat time is the key. And using your ankles to steer and shifting your body at the same time. You should rip the grape ape around. It’s more nimble than the kx. It’d make a big difference. You’ve still progressed a lot. It says a lot by not giving up! That’s why your hands down my favorite TH-camr!

      Thank you for the tips man! I did take the Grape Ape out last week and it was significantly easier to ride - I think mainly because of the suspension.

    He gave you some good advice. I'd also like to add that you should try and keep your knees above the pegs, head forward and stay in attack position. It's hard for me to believe that the stock suspension is too stiff for someone your size. It may feel that way right now but that's because you're not going fast enough for the suspension to actually be working for you optimally. Just get your sag and preloads adjusted and don't worry about actually getting your suspension reworked just yet. You're riding well so keep at it. The next step is going to be increasing your speed and tackling terrain that is more rough to get a good feel for what the bike does. Remember, it is okay to feel uncomfortable while riding because no one ever gets better riding while they are comfortable. 😁 You need the seat time to start trusting yourself and especially the bike.

      Thank you for the tips and I agree, I think because I'm going so slow is why if feels harsh. I rode a YZ125 since this video and could not believe how much better it felt though.

      @@MichaelSabo Well, you're doing it right. Just like anything else in life it just takes practice practice practice. Just keep riding and with every riding session focus on one thing to get better on and make yourself a little bit uncomfortable too lol. I've been riding dirt bikes since I was 6 years old and I'm 50 now and for me it's like breathing. I take friends out all the time and teach them. Again, the key is every ride to have one thing that you're going to work on and before you know it all of that practice just builds up and becomes muscle memory.

    Where you look is where you go is 100% and one of the best tips. Be careful over logs/branches approach angle, it's easy to slide and fall this way.

    nothing will make you a better rider like seat time. people can tell you all day long the best way to ride but improvement will come from more and more seat time which will build confidence. keep it up I love seeing new people pick up this hobby! welcome to the addiction lol

    Riding with a better rider is the best way to learn and also put yourself in uncomfortable situation is a very good way too, if you always ride in comfortable/easy terrain you'll never be able to predict the bike reaction in those situation. Its all a question of confidence on a dirt bike. In a few years you will check back this video and be that terrain is so easy to ride now. 👍🏼

    You definitely have gotten better Mike. My best suggestion would be get comfortable being uncomfortable to become comfortable. Always ride with at least 2 other people....gid forbid something bad happens there can be 1 with you and another getting help. A few things my father taught me when i was learning dirtbikes back in the early 80's. He said you ride the bike dont let it ride you or its going to take you for a ride you cant handle. Riding with more advanced rider's is the best way to get better. You can watch them make it look easy when you doubt yourself watch what they do and how and why. Also stop doubting yourself and keep say you suck at dirtbikes........bro you did 100 times better in this video than dudes i know that have been riding dirtbikes for 20 years. You also made a good choice on getting a 250 4 banger to get better on dirtbikes. If you jumped head in on a 250 2 smoker its a whole different word and skill set trail riding. Keep it up bro

      What a 125 for a first woods bike?? It was the best deal I could find at the time lol. I’m pretty new to dirtbikes in general but have been wanting to get my feet wet on two wheels and really only ride wooded trails. I’m 6’1 and 160 pounds, so built like a rail 💀 should I finish the build on the 125 and sell it for a 4 stroke?? Really liking the light weight and flickable feel of the 125 when I test rode it before tearing down to rebuild

    Your riding is getting better and better the safe approach is probably better you dont wont to wreck yourself. Especially as you have a life job etc that prioritizes the risks you are able to take. If you was on a quad i think probably that guy would be trying to keep up with you .jest takes time and practice your doing good 👍😉👌

    Looking good. Remember to stand up and look way ahead and use your balance.You need about 100 hours per year to get ahead of the curve.

    I don't have much advice to give since I'm also new at riding bike. But since I've learned to ride motocycle the few things I can give you that also transitions over to dirt bikes to some extent are this. Keep your head up and look into the turn at where you want to go. But also constantly scan for obstructions. The bike follows your eyes. That's one of the key things our instructors told us about steering our bike when my friend and I did our motorcycle safety course. I know the black top is a vastly different surface than off-road but there are tight turns on the road that look daunting to new riders. They were for me on my first ride out. But when you look into the turn your bikes flows through them like they aren't there.
    I haven't done much trail riding myself but the little trail riding I have done I've learned to let the front tire do its' own thing and to not fight it. Let it go where it wants within reason, you're there to make sure the bike goes straight. A lot of the trails I have around here would be considered easy but they're also rutted up from various machines and have loose rocks all over. So they're good for letting you get used to conditions that no longer stay in place when you drive over them. :)

    That first bit of advice was backwards for sure😂. Rear brakes only 90% of the time (on a dirtbike). Front brakes cause your tire to wash out especially in sand and when turning

    Keep at it dude. I been riding with guys that been at it pretty much all their life and this is year 2 for me. And here in New England it's only rocks. This year finding track easily than trails.

    Dude you look great like I told you in Indiana. I just posted a video riding my dirt bike I am at 6.7 hrs now on mine and you look way better than me lol. Have you tried softening up the compression on the forks? Great video and good to hear Liam talk about mostly using front breaks. That's a question I actually asked to viewers in my video.     Hey Mike, definitely recommend that when going down hill, use your rear brake more than your front. It’s easier to control the bike in case you hit a loose rock when using the rear brake where as you could panic and squeeze the front brake a little to hard resulting in an endo. Also, recommend getting a feel for clutch pops when riding through thicker areas like this to help bring the front tire up and over small logs and bigger branches. Keep your knees in tight as it stabilizes the bike a lot more and posture is EVERYTHING. Great videos man, notifications are turned on so I tune in as soon as I see you post. I’ve learned a lot from you and hopefully this little bit of info I share can help you. Keep up the great work!

    Mike, if you watched the guy you were riding with he was standing up on the pegs alot of the time. Riding a dirt bike is about balance. Especially woods riding. If you look at a trials bike it has a tiny almost non existent seat. Thats because they are mostly ridden standing up. What you need to do is practice balancing the bike by not even having it running and standing on the pegs and balancing the bike out. If you can stand on the bike for thirty seconds with out falling over you are doing good. Keep practicing this till you can balance for longer and longer times. This will improve your riding skills and give you more confidence. Stick with it. Dan

    You gotta check out Brule dunes in alberta canada. Isn't the biggest riding area but some crazy steep and fun climbs in powder sand. The scenery alone will take your breathe away every second your out there.

    arm pump is also contributed to not gripping the bike with your legs enough and death gripping with your hands!

    Just think of it as a mountain bike and don't psych yourself out. You're going to fall. That's not an if, it's a when. Just do your best and you'll get better over time. When in doubt, throttle out.

    Even us old experienced riders have slow speed tip overs. You learn to just laugh at yourself and move on.
    I broke my knee cap that way too.

    get your suspension valved/springed for your weight and riding style. that is a make or break on your bike. also making sure your rear spring sag is correct.

    Grip the bike with your knees, that is really, really important! You want your hands holding on to the bars loosely and elbows up! Stand up and let the bike work underneath you, bend at your hips and keep your chip over the bar clamps. 👍

    So the absolute best thing I've ever used for arm pump, and this is going to sound bad, but drink 1 beer before you ride.. I've take the harshest of suspension systems trail riding and the 1 beer technique has never failed me.

    631 mi trip for me from the KOP area, too far. looks like a fun place, maybe someday. I'm like 184 right now and 450 feels descent on trails. Tracks front suspension feels soft when hitting jumps.

    Lookin good I’d say.. just stand up a little bit more you’ll be alright and sit as close as you can to the gas tank n grip the shrouds with your legs… I just started riding dirt bikes 4 months ago and I’m 31 gotta brand new 2024 150r lol time for a 250 now though 😂

    So, i've had only quads my riding life: raptor 700, outlaw 525s, yfz450, and a predator 500 - I just got a fuel injected model yz450f to give dirt bikes a try and honestly, i think I am going back to quads lol. They are just more fun to me, although, crazy how much faster a dirt bike is to any of the quads i've owned. I am probably going to be looking around marketplace and try and trade it for a raptor or something with 4 wheels lol

    Next time you ride with someone have them chase you with a camera to document body positioning while under load 🫡🫡🫡 def getting better by each ride 3:56 around there that save with the flick of your hips and throttle modulation . Even if unintentional I yelled out like I was riding my self ahaha. This place looks dope af 🔥🔥🔥🔥 your buddy isn’t wrong about the front brakes but he’s also not right around them being the only brake to use . Back tire comes into play but it’s never dragging it without being ready to accelerate hard so you don’t stall aka clutch bang since your in the sand . Def get comfy with tappin the back break and the front at the same time my boy I promise it’ll track while breaking like no other and then one on their own and then with none at all 🫡🫡
