Heading into the wind doesn't aways work on the smaller powerboats. Some years ago I was out sailing on a large lake (120 sq mile) when a big storm rolled in. I was on a 27' keel boat. I had seen it coming and was prepared and heading back to my marina when I noticed w powerboat struggling. The waves were quite big and close together, the result being that his prop was mostly out of the water - just throwing up spray. He was moving backwards in a one step forward, two step back fashion towards a rocky shoreline. I went over and threw him a line and towed him under sail back to the marina.
If possible find a cove and keep away from others. Sometimes you have to stay under power and keep the bow high as possible and go parallel with the chop turning into the waves that may overtake the boat or just go directly into the waves. It’s never a good idea to be in a ski boat in a storm like this they are the worse to be in as they are heavy, long and low .
Bow into the wind, don’t go to the downwind shore…if you have to, beach it on the windward side of the lake and anchor to the beach and ride it out, and before all that…. GET YOUR LIFE-VESTS ON!
That's because you have the wrong anchor for your boat and probably no anchor chain either. A 21 foot boat you should have at least 350 feet of 3/8 twisted nylon rope . When you have the rite anchor chain and rope it will hold the trick is called anchor SCOPE check it out on line and you will see.
@@Cantsaydog We have been able to escape similar situations out on the water, but after years of boating, we are well aware of the changes in weather. Yes this monsoon storms can come up fast, but there are still warning signs, like the wind shift, the water surface is a big indicator if you know how to read it. You can feel and see the difference but you have to leave as soon as the early signs are witnessed. Most people boating today should not be on the water, and others are just worried about having a good time. Please take the water and weather change seriously, it can cause you your life.
Very poorly designed boat ramp that is exposed to open water, should have been built with either a breakwater of some sort or a small canal going to a safe boat ramp in protected waters
Keep doing what you’re doing. I love watching rookies. Sometimes you have to thin out the heard. 😂😂😂

Carefully put your Bimini top down too…

They should be charged with endangerment for the fire rescue that was out there to save him irresponsible
Your anchor does not hold with winds that strong.

Hmmm, try not going out when a storm is coming? What a concept.
What boaters should do is watch the weather it’s on everybody’s phone just got a lot of dumb people out there
Prior to cellphones, we simply paid attention to the sky and the wind. It only takes attention and good judgement, and a little knowledge.
