The session explores the emotional landscapes in archaeological practice; exploring trauma, distress, and the human experiences in the ancient world; decolonization and interaction with indigenous communities.
Meet our speaker Zarin Gul who will be talking about “The Ethical Concerns of Representation in Cultural Practice” in session 01 titled “Archaeology of the Heart”.
Zarin Gul is a visual artist and educator, renowned for her innovative work in art and technology. She graduated from the National College of Arts (NCA) in 1993, Master's in Graphic Communications from Kingston University, UK, in 2004. With a focus on multiple mediums-including painting, printmaking, photography, video art, and augmented reality-Zarin has made significant contributions to the contemporary art scene. She is a pioneering female video artist in Pakistan, gaining recognition for her exhibitions both nationally and internationally, including in the USA, UK, France, Germany, and South Korea. She’s currently serving as University professor, and founder of Khiradghar Studios.

This paper delves deep into an immensely problematic issue of Representation vs Re-presentation of the Subaltern, both as an author artist/ educationist/ researcher and the Gandhara art craftsmen community residing in Taxila, Pakistan.
