    I have had "sloppy ball" syndrome for years...I am so glad you have brought this condition to light. I can finally admit I have this condition and get the help I so desparately need ... I felt so alone ... tear. ROFLMBO. Seriously I have a winder but had been having a little issue with it and now fixed. Love the label idea. Thanks so much.

    Ok I want the deleted scenes because I know that he had to take many takes to say that opening without cracking up with the ball remarks. The sloppy balls was enough for me to spit out my drink and choke laughing so hard. On a serious note I want this machine now so that I can have perky balls too. :D ;)

    I love my ball winder. I’m the queen of scrap yarn, so this saves me lots of time and grief.
    When knitting fuzzy scarves, to give the scarf more body and warmth, I combine a fuzzy strand with a complimentary supersaver yarn using my ball winder. The reason I do that is because I’m knitting with even tension with yarns that have very different weights. Also, I can tell the look of the scarf quite well by looking at the ball.
    Thanks for the tip about putting the label in the center. I can’t believe that I’ve been knitting for 40 years and never thought of that.
    When I get done winding a ball, I always make sure to have the starter end coming out of the center so it pulls easily instead of goobering up the entire center trying to find it.

    hiya, Mikey. :)
    i have the same product, and I dont know if anyone had said this, but you can also put the beginning of the yarn through the loophole of the metal stand. easier for me than to twirl it around from the bottom of it. :) and i agree that THIS IS AN AMAZING TOOL! I even beat that shiny slippery polyester balls into neat and lovely polyester yarn cake.
    toodles! :)

    Hi Mikie. I love my ball winder, but I did not like the way the yarn started to collapse as you use the yarn, so I came up with the idea to use the cardboard insert from toilet paper. I cut it down the middle to make it snug and tape it , not too tight or you can't get it off the winder. I also at times have to cut it around the top to make it the same size as the winder stem. I take the first string of yarn and put just a little tape onto the paper roller. It works perfect. and as your using the yarn, it will not collapse in the middle as most of the sights that show how to use this, once the yarn is done, they say to start using it from the center. Dosn't make sence as as you go along the ball starts to collapse. Give my suggestion a try and tell me what you think.

    • @dianemacmillan4327
      @dianemacmillan4327 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh i forgot to say that when I use y yarn after balling it up, i start from the outside of the ball, not the center. Works so much better. I found i can sit the yarn on the floor next to where i am sitting and never have to adjust anything as the yarn pulls up without any problems....:) love to watch your video's you make me happy.

    Mine ball winder is identical woks great on 4-ply, but messes up on any finer yarn like baby yarn or "Unforgettable" that is thinner and has a sheen or silkiness to it. Any suggestions? I go through boatloads of baby yarn for charity hats for the hospitals, and loads of Unforgetable for prayer shawls and keepsakes for the elderly. I love the center-pull the ball winder makes.

  • @crystalsaphrias

    Tip; put a small knot in the end of the yarn, feed it through the loop on the winder, and then put it in the notches. Hey presto, the knot stops the end of the yarn from slipping through the notches and it also makes it easy to find or hold in the middle.

    I had a small problem with it collapsing. I also use a toilet paper tube, and it's great. I also make faux cables with them. Then I add a six-pack ring to DC around; join as a doily ring; and place toilet tube candles in the rings. It's great as an x-mas decor. And safer when you have little ones that may be tempted to "light up" a real candle.

    Winding yarn by hand into a ball makes uneven tension so than a winder would make the tension even on the skein?? Winding yarn with a yarn winder would that also loosen the tension on the skein ? The skein is round tight is it not??

    • @TheCrochetCrowd
      @TheCrochetCrowd  ปีที่แล้ว

      The twisted yarn from wool shops are called hanks. You will need to unwrap to form a ring, using a swift is the easiest way to transfer from the hank form to cake form.

      @@TheCrochetCrowd Yes I see them at the yarn store. When I get hanks from Purl website, they don’t roll up the yarn for you. I just use my feet, it takes time but the ball winders with swift are expensive to buy. Lucky Knitty City has their store open, and the wind the hanks for me. I’m hoping Purl Soho will eventually reopen.
