If Elton had never recorded anything before or after Tumbleweed Connection, he could lay claim to having created one of the greatest musical masterpieces in history.
This little gem gets no mention when people talk about Elton's best songs. This live version with the sadly deceased writer of the song, Lesley Duncan performing vocals with Elton make this very special indeed. Just beautiful.
My thoughts exactly...Funny how one could mistake her voice timbre and tonal range on this song with that of Natalie Merchant from 10,ooo maniacs....just sayin...or is it just me.
I prefer both of their album versions of this sound. More wistful and intimate. This is like the R & B or disco version (1976 was a different vibe than 1971 was 😅) and less sparse and therefore it doesn't have the same emotional punch to me but I still come back to it because it's still good music. 🙂
Was a big fan of Lesley Duncan in the 70's. She was one of the most underrated singer/songwriters of her time. She definitely didn't get the commercial success that she deserved.
No planet has produced such a pure emotion called love. Elton's mastery of piano is life changing. I want a 200 yr digital player in my coffin of all Elton's songs while I rest. ;)
I became aware of Lesley Duncan listening to If I Could Change Your Mind by the Alan Parsons Project, and really liked her voice. Natalie Merchant has a similar tone. First time I heard EJ's version of this song. Reminds me how much music I haven't heard: most of it!
@@lemurianchick Victor is comparing this version not to Duncan's solo version but to Elton John's "Tumbleweed Connection" recording, on which Duncan sang backup vocals.
Came here cause I finally saw the movie Men and wondered who was the female vocalist covering the beautiful old Elton John song at the beginning. Now I know! I’m in the states so did not know of her reputation in the UK.
Tumbleweed Connection was the first album I purchased as a young kid. I learned how to play Love Song on guitar by repeatedly dropping the needle. I never even knew this live version existed until I saw your video. Thanks for posting it. This song brings back so many memories for me and it's still so relevant and beautiful today.
@2:57 Dee Murray's bass on this going into the jam "follow me, I know the way!" Great guitar solo by Davey Johnstone. This is such a great song for being a 2 chord thing. Beautiful and haunting. Loved this album, had it on vinyl when it came out.
Initially, I thought the electrification of this beautiful acoustic classic would be a desecration. Although not bad, I wish it had been only the piano and the vocals.
Sorry Elton fan's but Cliff Richard and Cilla Black do a much better version of this song - before you fight with me - go and listen to them sing with much more feeling

“Love IS what we came here for” says it all. RIP, Lesley.
Amazing song and performance. Shout out to whomever put the video together.

@@lemurianchick 👍👍Yes, good one...Stevie soun , Many similarities too.!
It's my favorite as well. Love the message.
Never heard this song till I watched the film men it's a beautiful song
Same! Haven't been able to stop playing it.
@@gunnyhighway007 it's stuck in my head keep on singing it to myself

So true. I mean, growing up in the 70’s, shit, there was Taylor, Simon, King, and of course Cohen. But this girl somehow got overlooked. Dunno why.
@@jeremyjudson1952 Crippling stagefright.

I love this song, and Elton the introduction is simple but true, love Duncan, and the 2 together is magic❤❤
This just might be my new favorite. Where To Now St. Peter, Empty Garden, Rocket Man, and THIS GEM. wow. GORGEOUS!
From what is my favorite Elton John album! Great version of Lesley’s masterpiece.
Been a fan forever. She’s wonderful. Loved hearing both versions in the movie “MEN”. So good. This was also Elton’s first ‘hit’ I think.
Your Song was Elton's first hit. This was never released by Elton as a single. Not an A side anyway.
This is a great upbeat version of love song, they compliment their voices well
Great song, back when Elton could sing - unlike today
COMPLEMENT?
@@martinpowell5769Unnecessarily negative.
Wore the hell out of this album when I was a kid.
This actually got quite a bit of airplay on radio in 1976. I remember well. 🙂
It was played quite a bit on the radio. I believe this is the version played on the radio.
The song Burt Bacharach said he wanted to write!
It's absolutely gorgeous
The writer of this song is Leslie Duncan.
My older brother had this song on a record I played it thousands of times! My favorite of all he recorded!
It may have been the album tumbleweed connection

One of Elton John best songs
We have the pleasure of hearing more clearly the voice of
Lesley Duncan than in the 1970 studio version.
Yes!!!
???? She's singing backup here versus singing solo on her version.
@@claudialima3129 No!!! How can singing up be more clear than a solo version? Makes zero sense.
❤ Love is the opening door!❤

beautiful vocals and solo guitar, the song sends you to a great place

Great rock arrangement of this sublime folk song, thanks for uploading and great video montage too.
Just so absolutely perfect and beautiful. I've always adored this song.
Wonderful 🙏🇬🇧
fairly new to me, adore this song
Once again Elton John did his thing

Yep, still have my 1970 LP and a cassette copy I made for the car stereo. Such a great concept album -- "Tumbleweed Connection."
😊😊😊😊😊😊
This is awesome. Have 2 lps by Leslie...plus her work on Tumbleweed and Madmanwith EJ. Thanks
This was recorded in 1974. Album was released in 1976.
Yes, 1974. Live at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
Yes, the classic EJ band line-up Dee Murray, Nigel Olsson, Davey Johnstone. Ray Cooper on percussion.
@@thebreathalyzer there have been many great ej bands including 75-76, 1980,1986,1994-1997.
I had the original album on vinyl, just got it on CD

Muito legal essa gravação com a autora da letra, Lesley Duncan! É uma das minhas preferidas dele!!❤
It's a great version with beautiful vocals and guitar solo
Essa música faz você flutuar
Love vocals
HIGH LEVEL
I love the album version , it has a more intimate tone to it.
this is on the Elton John : Here and There lp
Nice, but I prefer Lesley's original, Just her and her guitar, it's so heartfelt and honest.
