Elton John's version is really beautiful, but Lesley Duncan's original is deep, melancholic, and magnificent. Perfect at the opening scene of the movie MEN
Lesley Duncan's version is the benchmark for this song. This is nice and Eltons version is good as well but Lesleys version in my humble opinion is the masterwork.
Lesley Duncan was Dusty Springfield's backing singer in the 60's and when she made a few singles, Dusty sang backing vocals for her! This lady was talented and overlooked. She died of dementia in 2010. RIP Leasley Duncan
People just like Nancy better because she is thinner than Ann...yet Ann is way hotter & a helluva lot better singer, so my favorite is Ann because I am not shallow nor blind nor deaf.
Both ladies are hot- not because Nancy is thin etc- no- But both are special in their own way-(its not what outside- but what's"" Inside the heart":( theirs)-
The Lesley Duncan "Sing Children Sing" version of "Love Song" in 1971 is the best version. It was the first one I heard and it will always be special to me. Elton's was good, but I never associated it with him.... it was always Lesley's song.
Gotta give credit where it’s due 🤷♂️ Can’t believe these “simple words” were actually written in the back of a cab on the way to the session back in 71’. My dad was only born that January. Where was I??
Thanks Don for bringing us years of memories for me my first listen was 1977 with Dog & Butterfly Vinyl and haven't stopped since , And to all Heart Fans Peace & Love
They do a great job on a "Lesley Duncan" song. But Ann and Nancy already had great voices. Well done! One of my very favorite Lesley Duncan/Elton John songs.
Love this song! This is the song I learned four finger picking from on my guitar. I had a guitar teacher for about two or three lessons, when I was about 14, in order to learn four finger picking and he taught me picking patterns from this song. Ann and Nancy do an awesome version of this! Of course, they always sound great.
It is true that Elton John includes this song always in his performances, but he will always give credit to her friend Lesley Duncan, a wonderful artist we miss so much.
This song has 2truly be 1 of my favorites and 2 hear Heartdo the rendition is equally just amazing, for me this seems like an amazing place for all of us who believe in true ❤ , and all that goes w/ir
victoria gabriel Listen to the late Lesley Duncan's pure, unadorned version on TH-cam. She wrote it and her slow, atmospheric version is by far the best I have heard. Give yourself a treat. It's only 4 minutes out of your life.
Neilprocter, thank you for standing up for Leslie Duncan writing this song. Even Elton acknowledged that it stood out as many people's favorite. Nothing against Heart, but credit and respect should be given where it is due.
I love this song.. I think Elton recorded it with Leslie Duncan. Beautiful lyrics and vocals, off of my favorite Elton album, Tumbleweed Connection. Thank you, ladies! Gorgeous arrangement!
listen to heart song NOTHING BUT LOVE live at Bridge School Benefit... Ann's voice takes your breath away it's kinda like ALONE!!!! Her pitch.. Song is beautiful as well....
I saw her perform this song live in March when I saw Heart at Penn's Peak. Most incredible show, ever! Have seen them dozens of times, for the past 35 years. The most amazing musicians, ever! Will try to upload the video for you ~ you will love it!
Im going to see them on August 9th, in Baltimore. I hope my seat doesn't suck. March 23, 2014 in Lancaster I snuck up front I almost could tie her shoe I was so close.. If I had the nerve I should of climb up and gave her a big hug.. Yeah I am a HEARTFanatic.. LOL I was a Stevie Nicks fan for 35 yrs. daughter is named Rhiannon. Now I'm so in love with Ann her voice and beautiful face are so AMAZING... :)
Hey there fellow Heartmonger! Am really looking forward to 5/23 in Solomons if I can get over this ridiculous illness! It's just one thing after the other! Hope your're well. Take care!
Just a stunning cover. I'm guessing almost everyone who bought Elton John's 1970 concept album, "Tumbleweed Connection," picked this Lesley Duncan composition as their favorite track. I know I sure did.
Love you Heart Love this Song Written from Lesley Duncan So Beautiful Song RIP Lesley Duncan never knew you passaway And Sir. Elton John your a Legend to with Beautiful Song Written love you and your Music Thank you for your Music and Songs to
One of the best covers I’ve heard of Lesley Duncan’s song. My favorite remains by Dionne Warwick though. I also love a French version called “À la tombée du jour” by Gérard Lenorman.
It's too bad they don't acknowledge the actual composer of this song: Lesley Duncan. Elton John covered the song on Tumbleweed Connection but he didn't write it. Love and props to the late great Lesley Duncan!
Ann Wilson is a vocal Goddess, therefore its strange my favorite HEART songs are mostly sung by Nancy (Nada One, Treat Me Well, etc). This is a great cover, if you like it check out "Come Down in Time" by Sting. Also kudos to the keyboard chick for the 3rd high harmony on the choruses here, great job......
And it's a wonderful cover. But people here are that ignorant that they've never listened to it and dare to say that this or that version is better when they have never listened to the best of all.
You're right! Elton recorded this song twice: on 1970 'Tumbleweed Connection' and he played this song along with Lesley Duncan at the Royal Albert Hall and was included in the 1976 'Here and There' album.
@@454something Yes, I already knew that, and Elton & Leslie hit it out of the park back when they sang this song, however, Heart can virtually pick up just about any other artist song and make it great also.
@@tracyjungmann1756 You are sooooooo right about Heart being so versatile. Their Zeppelin work is marvelous. This song in the original form ties for my very favorite song ever along with (Like to get to Know you) by Spanky and our Gang) . The lyrics and melody of Love Song are so simple but go right to the heart (no pun intended.) i even heard it done by Neil Young in his unique style. The Wilson sisters sing a spectacular cover and Nancy' guitar is so crisp and pure. I could go on and on. Just love it! Thanks for your reply.
@@454something Well, I had to reply since you've mentioned my two all time favorites but extremely opposite sounds of Led Zep & Neil Young. Both completely different, but very solid and a large body of great sounds. All info about Heart is sincerely appreciated, they are still great!
Elton didn't actually write this, although he was the first to record it. It was written by Lesley Duncan (R.I.P.), who was asthat a session vocalist. She did her own version a little while later.
Written and recorded first by Lesley Duncan in 1969, this Heart version is better than the Elton John version. Even with Lesley Duncan on backing vocals, Elton never did it justice. These girls do IMHO xx
Search for Lesley Duncan Covers, and you'll find a playlist which is mostly versions of this song, by Barry White, Peggy Lee, ONJ, David Bowie and others.
In about 1971 I worked at Taco Bell (high school days). First thing I bought was one of those cassette recorders you could used to record mix tapes off the radio. I remember this (by Elton John) was song 1....followed by John Denver "Sunshine on My Shoulders" and then "Love Can Make you Happy" by Mercy......... wish I could remember the rest of the playlist. Listened to it for years copying that cassette over and over. Wish I'd written it down, but wouldn't be the same without all the sloppy transitions. Nancy does a nice job.
I would like to believe that it was a collaboration between Leslie Duncan and elton was most who work together add to each other's creative ideas but yes the lyrics I believe are hers.

Got it for Christmas. AWESOME album.
Perhaps the most perfect rendition of this beautiful song Leslie Duncan Author and Poet
The best I know of so far is from a demo with David Bowie (we can find on TH-cam)

I didn't realise that she had died with/from dementia. That's very sad.
She actually died from a vascular issue to her brain.....
