With some practice you will see that the maximum contrast is not in the same place as the focus. That's why it's easy to focus incorrectly. It helps to focus with magnified view and look closely into the glow to find perfect focus with this lens. It is the strangest of the slow-ish budget 50mm options.
@@NatalieRosellaBoonzaier Indeed! And if you take a close portrait where the sun is reflected in an eye it made a glowing sphere on my dogs eye, really strange effect :)
This is probably the worst Rikenon lens. The sharpness is awful. If you want to stay with Rikenon you should try the Rikenon XR 50mm f/1.7 (0.45m minimum focusing distance version), Rikenon XR 50mm f/2, or the Rikenon XR 50mm f/2 L version. The L version has longer minimum focusing distance (0.6m) and is made more of plastic compared with the Rikenon XR 50mm f/2 that is made of metal. The m42 Auto Rikenon normal lenses are amazing too. They have takumar build quality with amazing bokeh.
Thanks for your input. I don’t ‘want or not want’ to stay with Rikenon lenses. I just found this at a market. If I find another one for super cheap, i will get that one too and test it out. The lens is not that bad. It’s just particular and not fitting for most regular situations. It’s certainly quirky.

Why not use rikenon XR 50mm f2. 0.....

If its glowing is it multicoated....not keen on lenses with only 5 diaphragm blades similar to nifty fifty canon... more blades is best.....
