Monteverdi: Lamento della Ninfa (Lament of the Nymph)
The god Phoebus had still to light
The great fires of the dawn
When the nymph left her dwelling.
Her face a pale temple in its ruins of grief;
Her cries - a heart, rending.
Hither and thither she went,
Stumbling through flowers,
Grieving the love she had lost:
Hear me, O Love, she begged the heavens,
- stock still now, rooted to the spot -
What happened to that traitor’s vow,‘
Togetherness and trust’?''
I just want him back,
But as he was before.
If you cannot - then kill me;
I cannot bear this agony.
No more will I listen to his sighs,
Unless we are separated by a thousand seas
No! No longer will I martyr myself for this.
I am destroying myself because of him,
And the worse it is, the more gorged,
The more satisfied he seems.
If I were to flee from him,
Perhaps then he might come begging?
That woman’s eyebrows
May be arched more perfectly than mine,
But sealed within my breast,
O Love,Lives a faithfulness still fairer.
And that woman’s mouth will never open
To give such kisses as I can give!
(Hush! Say nothing - you know only too well!)
With these cries she cast
Her anguish to the heavens.
And so it is that in the heart of every lover
Burns, side-by-side, love’s flame and ice.

"I pray for you, Richter Belmont."
From Castlevania Nocturne to here this is an amazing song. What a splendid display of talent and craftsmanship 🥹
400yrs later and still wonderful. Fantastic collaboration with the superb Helen, theorbo and G6.
Ovo mi se sviđa" superb Helen"
Assolutamente fantastici. La voce di Helen è divina!!!😍✨
I first heard this song on Castlevania Nocturne. Edouard's voice actor sang this beautifully
Incredibile equilibrio e qualità delle voci. Bellissima interpretazione.
When the voice of Ms Helen start... I cannot stop my tears.
They are exceptional, but she is divine, powerful, intense, sweet and painful.
This is without any doubt the best interpretation of this song in my opinion.
Outstanding performances.
Brava Helen!!! Bravi tutti!
I can feel the deep and unbearable sorrow in her voice 💔
Even a decent Italian pronunciation
I already used to listen others Helen charlston performance, such a singer she is
Brava

Castlevania brought me here
Lindo demais
Wonderful performance. First time saw this giant string instrument from Lute family theorbo, (chitarrone)!
They warble like opera singers
I love all of you
I have no idea what the words are, but y'all sound incredible!
Castlevania brought me here 😂
"-Why are you doing this to us? -Because you let us."
The most beautiful and sexiest version I've ever heard of this song. Bravo!!!
잘 한다~
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍🤩🤩
Straight off the page, minimal male lines (so we can wallow in Monteverdi's advanced harmonies) then a soloist with no vibrato unless required.
This wonderful performance uses no artificial drama and the sheer power is all the better for it.
Does anyone know the name of the ınstrument the guy plays
Theorbo
Why did the tenors switch parts
Very strange thing happening there between 0:40 and 0:46, but apart from that the rest was awesome!
Is that an archlute? Amazing looking instrument.
Theorbo
Real ones were came from contrapoints before castlevanie
all i hear is a bandana guy whipping vampire heads
Too loud, not very precise
As I understand it Monteverdi indicates that the nymph should be quite free in the declamation/speech but the shepherds keep the pulse. Not sure what you mean by too loud...I absolutely loved this!
@@3Monteverdi Agreed. The lack of precision, in other words the freedom and exquisite delays were what made it so interesting to listen to.....delicious.
😂
Glorious!
