I love what you said starting at 5:11, that beauty is an antidote to adversity. This is what brought me to nature photography, which has been my hobby since I was a teenager. Greetings from a fellow Bay Area Leica photographer and dad.
Just discovered your channel and it's great! And I think, you are right: photography is all about being in the moment and seeing the bunnies of the world. Greetings from Germany!
Great way to mix it up. Analogue and digital in harmony. The key regardless of the medium and gear it’s the craft and being in the moment. Love the desert!!! Such a photographers playground. Appreciating what’s around us is something that’s lost with many. Great job Dave. PS - Dave I sent you an email from your website last week. FYI. Tks!
Hey man, I dig the video and the sentiment. Fellow 500cm shooter up here in Portland, and been pairing that with my Fuji X100’s for years. Love that combo, just keeps things simple. I have the Fuji for exploring and some flexibility, then when a scene calls for the film/square format I got it. Like to have b/w and color backs but depends Learned on film and got back into film on the cusp of the revival. Long thought, hey I should try making vids….but I’ve got a job and always prioritized the opportunity to be mindful and in the moment like you’re talking about. That’s my time to connect with my environment through photography and it’s been a life changing gift. A video for who knows is not worth mortgaging that…but just me. I like the talk over slideshow format of this video, vocalized your thoughts and we see the images, which is what interests me. Don’t know the IG spots cause I’m not on it. Been fighting to resist that pull for years. People laugh, but been on Flickr for years and love it. High res uploads, camera/film groups, can make albums, search by tags, and no influencers. That and a website do it for me. Anyway, subscribed and looking forward to seeing what that Hasselblad turns out. Nice to see square format and film cameras other than just Leicas and Mamiya 7’s :)
Instagram has indeed changed people's minset: they pose and take selfies in picturesque urban spots, nature locations, typical general settings (e.g. at the seaside at sunset). I think this has little to do with photography, especially with nature and landscape photography. The latter is part of one's lifestyle; getting up at an ungodly night-time to drive to a location or camping to be on the spot at dawn is a way of living, no less. :)

Thanks so much. Bay Area ✅ Leica ✅ Dad ✅ sounds like we could be bff.

Thank you!
Yeah. It's not even about the photos but looking at the world a certain (focused) way. Just experiencing and being open to the world.
Agreed!
Brilliant work, just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
"Mindfulness for photographers" 🙏
Absolutely
Very inspiring. You're a good and wise person. Photos are very good too.
Thank you 🙏🏼
back to the Photography roots !
100%!
Beautiful place. Beautiful video. Thank you.
Appreciate it!

Thanks! Got your email and sent one back!
This resonates. As much as I want to get video, I’m a photographer first.
For sure. I feel that every time I'm out!
Dave, we are heading to JTNP next week. Can you share which two areas you went to? Thanks, Alan
Sure! The Cactus Garden, and Skull Rock. Lots to do in that area!
@@davidherring we've been going to JTNP for years now. It's an amazing place 24 hours a day. Have the best day possible. Alan

Thanks for sharing! I appreciate what you're saying. And yes, make some vids! Thanks for subscribing!
I'm in the same boat sometimes where I want to bring out all my photo cameras, but learning that 2 or less is best [for me] hahah
It's definitely easy to bring it all and overwhelm yourself. Two is best!

Definitely. I love that people are going out and doing things. I just wish they did it for the experience, not for the "content."
I think it is usually the case that Instagram snappers are not photographers.
True, but I've seen many an influencer with their photographer.
Is it me or did you purposely speak slowly in this video changing your cadence as if you’ve been reading books on NLP lol
It’s just exhaustion. 🥱🤷🏻♂️
Maybe if I wasn’t focused on video, photo, film and direction I would have found you faster 😅
Haha exactly
