I can't stand how much I love the Games Workshop universes and miniatures, and how disgustingly predatory they are compared to all the other companies in the industry.
Necromunda is probably the worst exemplar of the ‘you need multiple rulebooks’ issue. Its insane, to the point where realistically the actual gaming probably would not exist without two third party online resources: Yaktribe for list building and campaign management, and necroraw which holds all the rules in one place (and has to be hosted in Russia to stop GW self-harming by closing it down). But to give an example, to run an Enforcer gang with the pet, brute and vehicle, I need effectively *five* different rulebooks.
I have chuckled during these and a lot of other hobby videos but I can't recall the last time I literally laughed as loud as hard during your dead pan delivery of 'El Sandtrap-O.'
Putting rules on the instructions is a blessing and a curse, especially with GW's edition cadence. You could pick up a box of models and the unit rules inside are like 2-3 editions old and don't even list what edition they're for.
Aside from the startling lack of trench crusade content, this was excellent grumpy old man yells into void content 😊. I never considered how important the box art is for retailers but that makes perfect sense. I've grown to loath custom dice over time. GW gave tons of dice for Underworlds but now I have piles of useless dice I can't repurpose.
Great thumbnail, I'm sure as soon as the ladies walk through the front door they know immediately they're in the right place for customer satisfaction.
GW not realizing/encouraging free list building for their games is nuts. Gamers love to tinker in the apps making new lists and then they go buy the models to make it happen.

Warlord Games also just pay walled their app, so you can't list build Bolt Action for free. Damn shame, I can't be tempted by free advertising to roll a Slovakian Uprising army now.
@@bravghede Not a GW hater but the armybooks are rubbish nowdays anyway, the art is nowhere near as good as the 90s and 2000s, the writing and lore laughable, the rules become obsolete after 3 months. I have great pleasure collecting the old codexes and armybooks, but literally no ones wants the recent ones starting at 40k 8th even for free after the edition is past.

My son-in-law will not play a tabletop or RPG that uses custom dice. Boxed board games, maybe. To be honest, I’m not a fan either, but it’s not a deal breaker as long as the dice sets are easy to obtain.
That GW still applies a $60 book tax to every faction every edition seems mind-bogglingly self-defeating at this point. When physical books were the only way to distribute rules, this might have been justifiable, but in the age of the PDF and the mobile app, it's just not. As you point out, having access to the information necessary to build lists for every faction is bait to entice players to buy more models. If I have to shell out $60 for a book just to find out *whether* I want to build and play a new army, before I've bought any models at all, I'm far less likely to take on a new army project than if I can build speculative lists for free. For a miniatures company, rules should not be treated as a revenue source--they should be viewed as a high-return marketing expense. We know that the availability of rules and unit data for free online won't hurt codex sales, because Wahapedia exists. GW could distribute the rules and unit data digitally, and take time-sensitive content OUT of the hardback codexes, to make the codexes evergreen. So instead of buying ONLY the codexes for the army/ies I actually play over and over, I'd accumulate ALL of the codexes over a period of a few years, and have them on my shelf like an Encyclopedia Warhammerica. They're leaving money on the table, and blocking people from buying models to form new armies, by insisting on turning their rules into a profit center. Very 20th century of them.
My rant is why all of gw products are not available to stores and why reps cant see inventory. Of so nice to have a customer want to order and not be able to tell them if it even exists until you see a shipping notice. Thats if you ordered nothing else.
Well some of the stuff like old rulesets get written off and recycled. Old miniatures that are effectively unsellable are likely given away but usually you can sell it off at heavy discount
An insert somewhere in the rules concerning the dice. It should show a simple geometric design of the die, potentially an assigned color, and a conversion chart of symbols to a corresponding number. It is less convenient but doesn't leave you hopeless. If you're unaware of the layout of dice, you do not own.
GW really wants to be a model maker and engage with people who build minis as their customer base. GW seem to resent the fact that their models can be used to play games, and that the games attached to their models are popular. GW seem very unsure in their role as a steward of a gaming environment. It made more sense to them as part of the physical product pipeline. Make rulebooks, sell rulebooks and never think about them again until next edition. They're really struggling how to crack the "games as service" model for the physical realm where certain services are provided free to the players to support their gaming ecosystem.

I think it was conscious strategy for FFG to give too few custom dice in the starter sets so people would be forced to buy their overpriced booster packs... A friend calculated once how many dice packs you need to simply roll all attacks for a basic stormtrooper squad in one go and it was 4 or 5 packs... This is the same model they have with their living card games -- yes, you can play with one set. But if you want to really compete, you need to buy multiples to stack your deck with the maximum allowed good cards.
We haven't had much demand for War Machine, which is sad as I'm still nostalgic for the game from when it first released. One person did ask, but didn't care to wait long enough for us to see if we can get in the products and bought it from the WM site directly. Models looked fine for what they were and the designs weren't bad, but things like Flash Point have had far more interest. Some of it may be that we don't have WM on the shelves, as people do remember it, but like with many things even if they know we can special order things they won't always ask. A lot of the time if we put something on a shelf it will sell at some point and drive extra interest.
When they have Empire Preorder on Saturday but put in the fine print somewhere you’ll never see it that it is delayed in Australia…. They put this in an article about old world but don’t put it in the old world section of their community page so of course everyone here misses it and wastes a Saturday morning waiting and getting excited to order things…. Such a dick move and then of course they give no info on when it will actually release here… Way to go GW

5:37. Ok they should do this. For a new edition have a rulebook with beta rules. That's it. Everything else is free online. One month before new edition release release the codexs. This way they are up to date with latest revisions. That way the codexs and final rule book are feature complete and fully play tested. This is an awful idea of course for a company that wants to make my net but brilliant for folk who want a complete game edition in one east to reference way. Especially for long term. See when those data sheets go off line which they will eventually all you will have left is out of date rules.

the pricing of models especially vehicles for guard. less detailed, less fun to build and more expensive than similar sized injection mold plastic vehicles from lets say tamiya while also clearly being based off historical ones. it annoyed me to a point that now i am shilling recasters or the idea of just glueing lascannons to historicals for my stuff. F GW in the poopshooter.

It was good back in the day, like 4-5th edition, when they used to just leave the rules until the next edition

the list building thing is a biggy. Its in any companies interest to make it as easy as possible to realise why owning a figure would be beneficial.

They do all the nowdays practice with Killteam, free rules, free app, update directly in the pdf...

The games in it's 5rh Ed. So it's not new. However it is quite unique with its D20 system. Some love it, some don't.
