Lomu was truly a feared winger and as boy, I did not see how the Springboks were going play, let alone win against All Blacks with a player like Jonah in their team. Respect the Legend
Mr Jonah Lomu was an incredibly talented rugby player that did immense good work in promoting the sport. He is sorely missed. (Fun fact : Mr Jonah Lomu has never scored a try against the Springboks.)
He was even our legend in South Africa, no doubt loved and respected throughout the world and what better team to represent than our biggest rivals. Was quite a thing when Lomu went to visit the man that stopped him from scoring a certain try, Joost van der Westhuizen who passed away not long afterwards from motor neurone disease. Really awesome example of respect. RIP Jonah and Joost.
The late, great Jonah was a superb athlete, a big man that was fast and agile, a complete shock to the world of rugby where the big men were always in the front, in the centre of the attack but they were slow, strong, built like tanks, and the much smaller, quick men were on the wing, the outer edges. So Jonah turns up, big and fast, placed on the wing, on the outer edge, his attitude is 3 strategies; 1. I'm fast, I'll leave them standing with fast acceleration and out run them! 2. I'm agile, so I'll step them, swerve and mis-foot them, run around them! 3. I'm strong, so if 1 and 2 fail, I'll simply go through or over them! Most of those great games Jonah starred in your video, he was sick with the kidney disease that finally killed him too young so that makes his achievements even greater! My greatest impression was the game you showed against the French national team in blue and white, not amateurs and a formidable international rugby team where Jonah went through 80% of the French team to score, through the big hard men men in the centre who were just too slow, not agile enough and unable to stop him, finally 6 big strong men couldn't stop him scoring! Unheard of at an international level. A gentle giant off the field, much respected. So sad, RIP Jonah
I went to the 2015 Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham with our younger son. Jonah Lomu was in one the bars before the match, chatting to fans and having his photo taken with them. No side to him whatsoever. Sadly he died not long afterwards, maybe because the long flight back to New Zealand exacerbated his kidney condition.
You showed the clip of Jomah Lomu running over Mik Catt of the Lions and scoring. This was the semi-final of the 1995 World Cup. in the final, the All Blacks played the Springboks, The All Blacks game plan was 'pass rge ball toLomu and let him go on to score.' No Plan B. The Springboks tack;ed the living daylights out of Loma. He'd get the ball and find a whole lot of players heading to tackle him. Being tackled ny 3 guys simultaneiusly isn't a pleasant experience. He started offloading the ball in a hurry almost as soon as he got. The Springboks won. Sheer physicality has an honoured place in Rugby. That's why we love the Boks.
Jonah was so good that the Springboks made it a point of honour to ensure he never scored a try in the 12 games he played against them. If I am not mistaken he also never scored against Wales either. Jonah Lomu was an absolute phenomenal rugby player.
I believe Jonah Lomu would be on almost everyone's best ever rugby team. One of the GOATs of the game. But also have look at Sebastian Chabal, another beast and in my opinion, and one of the GOATs of rugby.
i reckon there is a difference between "best" and "greatest". Best is actual playing ability. Greatest is achievements on world stage. McCaw, with 2 world cups, multiple rugby championships and most test wins, probably greatest ever. Carter, with 2 world cups, most test points ,probably best player ever. Lomu with his playing ability and popularity- most famous player ever.
@kelbatt7729 Good point. There are not many other words that I can think of to use other than "greatest" and "best" to describe these player's achievements. Perhaps "elite" or "top" could be used, but they don't have the same impact. Chabal may not have the same achievements as McCaw, but I would still rank him as one of the top five number 8s of all time.
Jonah Lomu was one of the best rugby players ever. Unfortunately he had kidney problems through most of his short life. Imagine how good he would have been if his health had been 100%.
The Boks put so much effort into covering Lomu that they forgot about Christian Cullen and Jeff Wilson (especially Cullen, he wrecked us a bunch of times).
What's the point of watching someone watch Jonah Lomu. If I want to watch videos of him, I'll just do it. THese reaction are a cheap and easy way of stealing someone else's work (in this case, Jonah's (RIP) and whoever it was who filmed him).
From a South African he was a amazing player, he is very much missed .
As a Saffa, he is a true Legend. Once in a lifetime rugby player
Did he even score 1 try against the mighty springboks ??? 😂
@meanlean3095 As a saffa it's people like you that give SA fans a bad name.
He was a Kiwi, not a Saffa.
@JimboPrague I do realize that.
Absolute Legend
Amazing player deserves his spot on rugby's hall of fame.
I think his 100m time was 10.7 seconds, for someone that big it's crazy fast.
R.I.P to the big man.
Yep, and at 6'5" and 120kg (265lbs) that's feckin' motoring.
check out christian cullen whom i think has been the best all black so far. so silky a runner he didn't leave footprints on the grass

The GOAT, from an England fan.
RIP Jonah you were an absolute beast but a gentleman off the field
The ultimate player.
As a South African, Jonah Lomu was the best.
If he was around now in his prime, with all our advancements, he would dominate everyone.
He dominated everyone back then!
Did he ever score 1 try against the mighty springboks ??? 😂
@@meanlean3095 No! He didn't! Sport is bloody mad eh?!
Jonah wasn't a South African. Look up "dangling participle."
@@JimboPrague You misunderstood what I said. I did not say he was South African. Read again.

Watch Jonah Lomu lord of the wings.
Also, bear in mind, he did this while dealing with some chronic kidney issues, so you can imagine how good he would have been at 100%!!
Kidney failure from a serious kidney disease.
Maybe make longer videos? Maybe do 2 in a row?
Josh Kronfeld has to take some of the fame he always knew where to pass
Kronfeld's support play was excellent, always there to take the pass, head down, gain a few meters- then out to the wing
Good video because you don't stop the video, but turn down games commentary so that you can be heard clearly.
Great as he was, he never scored a try against South Africa in 12 test matches. Springbok cover defence was too good.
He never scored a try against wales either

Can you please react to Brian O’Driscoll he is arguably the GOAT of rugby
up there- but not up with dan, richie or jonah
