    Jonah was a human wrecking ball on the field & a humble, gentle giant off it. Men who played against Jonah said it was like hitting a solid brick wall. RIP Jonah. Always missed.

    Here is the thing about Jonah Lomu - He was massive, he was power and he was speed. You never see all those things in a single person. So those that were fast enough to catch him were rarely big enough to slow him let alone stop him. RIP Legend!!

    The Dallas Cowboys offered him big money to change to NFL. He turned it down. Rugby Union was his greatest love. He played like a juggernaut. Tackling him was like trying to stop an express train. Respected by every Rugby fan of all Rugby-playing nations, grown men thousands of miles away cried when he died. No-one has been able to match him. No-one read the game better.

    • @docgonzales
      @docgonzales 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Any sport , his weight / speed ratio would shatter nfl combine records, the best 2020 result for a 4:38 guy was a 238 pounder, thats 30 pounds lighter than Jonah and a fraction quicker. Someone like JJ Watts might have 10 pounds on Jonah but his 40 was 4:70 something not low 4:40's. Dallas Cowboys wanted him for 10 mill signed guaranteed no trial just on his stats in 1996.

    • @KurtyFloLive
      @KurtyFloLive  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doc Gonzales wow and to be that good at such an early age is a blessing. Genetically just top of the pyramid genes and a passion for his sport that not even 10 million could stop him from playing. that’s a special kind of human without doubt.

    • @KurtyFloLive

      @@KurtyFloLive rugby league throughout history right up to the 2000's and still hints of it today has always been the oppressed little brother of rugby, rugby league is generally played by the blue collar worker and by people of the lower socio-economic parts of society. This will probably make me unpopular with a lot of New Zealanders, but I don't really care. Reality is we treated him poorly and unfairly for much of his career and I'm not going to lie about that.
    I always feel bad for Jonah because the NZ sports media and the rugby public were so critical of him, no matter what he did. He got called "lazy" a lot and even after his kidney disease was made public, when it was finally known he'd been sick for years but was still out there trashing most opposition, there were plenty who refused to admit they'd been harsh in judging him and considered it nothing but making excuses.
    Jonah was expected to win us every game. No other All Black in my memory has been put under the microscope over such a long period of their career like Jonah was. Not even a fraction. Jonah was a freakish athlete, he could do the unthinkable in that era, but he didn't just carry his own weight around, he carried such a weight of expectation upon his shoulders each time he set foot on a field it's remarkable to me that he never completely lost the plot.
    Jonah is not the GOAT if you're talking best players, his game had plenty of weaknesses and they got exposed. If you're talking GOAT in terms of globally iconic players whose popularity and influence in changing the game exceeds that of anyone else, I can't really think of another player that tops him. There's a reason he's called rugby's first global superstar.

    • @KurtyFloLive
      @KurtyFloLive  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Wow I had no idea he was scrutinized by his own people for being prolific and an absolute phenom on the pitch. The expectation of him preceded him it seems but he must have handled all that so well at the time, in top of being sick which is remarkable. And for me GOAT means both of those things, not one or the other. And if I had to say something, if I wasn’t for Jonah I wouldn’t even had discovered rugby so long after his death he still bring people to the sport because how he played then that makes him a GOAT in my opinion

      I don't believe there was one.
      No one in rugby union was a "professional" until after the 1995 World Cup.
      The amateurism ethos was so strong that if a coach was to write a book about coaching he could not collect the royalties. They would have to be given away, usually to his club or local Union.
