FATHER PHIL BROKE THE PLOUGH | PLOUGHING IN THE SLURRY

  • In todays video we're ploughing in the slurry. Father Phil & Bro are spreading away and we have to get it ploughed in as soon as possible to get the most out of the nutrients. Although after a couple of runs on the plough Father Phil breaks the plough! Also don't miss the drone footage of the ford sprayer at the end of the video where after he'd finished spreading slurry he went spraying roundup.
    Hope you enjoy, any questions hit me down in the comments below, thanks for watching! G'Luck

    talk about changeing points phil, when we used to plough (chalky boulder clay in essex ) a set of points new would only do a day an a half and would have to be changed round , the steel we used to go through was incredible , tons of it , prob 30 to 40 sets of plough points every year & we didnt turn over that much , good videos phil , good luck

    Check your skims aren’t two deep on individual furrows iv had that problem on a kv before.

  • @madeljacky
    @madeljacky 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    Another cracking video showing that it doesnt always go to plan ! Never seen a turnover bracket split across the bolt holes before, seen plenty with the pin end broke off them. Your ploughing isnt that bad, i assume before you started you checked the two rear tyre pressures matched, the lift arms were the exact same height and the check chains were slacked off before the plough was hooked on, getting the back furrow right is a combination of top link length and the big nut on the turnover ram stop, if the plough turns too much the back furrow lifts out and the front furrow is in to its bollocks, also a hydraulic cross shaft will sort the front furrow width. Another thing is your balls could be worn on the plough legs which let them move sideways or up and down once you start pulling through the soil, nobody can do good ploughing if the plough legs are moving, one can be ploughing 14 inch, the next one 16 inch and the next one 12 inch, it will be some mess. Leaf springs should be 700mm from center to center of the pins, that can make uneven furrows as well if they are not all the same tension. I plough stubble ground every year with the exact same Model E plough, 160 head stock, number 8's, a full set of discs and grass skimmers pulled with a 6270 running on 18.4's x 38's, when its done right you cant tell if its ploughed with a four furrow a five furrow or a six furrow plough.

    • @diggerdave.6587
      @diggerdave.6587 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      you are right Jacky. Its not often just one reason why a plough is acting up. Wear on moving parts is most likely the cause if all the initial adjustments are all ok

    A dinner of childhood treats & local brands for Father Phil. Club orange and goldgrain biscuits bought in the local shop. He fair put Phil in his place putting the Kitkat to one side. All was missing was a Tayto crisp sandwich in Pat the Bakers bread or corned beef sandwiches. Scary to think that Aldi or Lidl imported equivalents are under half the price.

    • @kieranosullivan02
      @kieranosullivan02 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thing is there's another price to pay for those things so cheap and we won't know what that is until it's too late

    • @williamhealy6987
      @williamhealy6987 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is only one problem now. Jacobs biscuits are no longer made in Ireland, the Tallagh bakery was closed in 2008. Club orange is made in Dublin by Britvic. Tayto crisps are made in Asbourne by a company headquartered in Gemany. As for the Kitkat, Rountree Macintosh closed the Kilmainham factory in 1986. Irish corned beef is now only produced in a 6lb tin for deli counters. Cadburys chocolate is no longer produced in Coolock.
      If it was not the case that local businesses are supported by buying local you would buy in Lidl or Aldi.The same factories produce the Lidl or Aldi own brands that are producing our favourite Irish brands.

    Hi , I can gather that you’re not too keen on ploughing. Now, some forty years ago when I was agri contracting in North Devon, I really loved being out ploughing with my Ford 8200 and KV rev plough, four furrows set at 16” Could normally average around two and half acres an hour. In a normal year I would be doing around 500 - 600 hundred acres per year, the Devon soil is very similar to yours.

    Heard red clover mentioned, think it was discussed between 2 years maybe and how things have changed. Used to do red clover 10-15 years ago. Excellent but needs care,don't graze and choose 3,4 year variety in pure stand or mix with cocksfoot or Italian ryegrass. Preferably broadcast as opposed to drilling, less seed used and cover lightly and no problem after.

    It's the four balls that the plough body is set agenst with the spring pressure. The balls may ware and if one falls out and you put a new one back in, it will distort the other three resulting in the furrows not matching up, had the same problem only way to sort it is replace the 4 balls on the body's of which furrows aren't ploughing evin with new balls

    Ur springs on the plough don’t look like there set right they are bent out in the middle to much which means the leg of the plough has less tention to keep it in the ground it wants to be less say flatter to apply more tention to the leg it should be 70 inches from pin to pin on the spring but also check that there’s no leafs broke in the spring cause that’s can cause it to be weaker aswell
