    Step 1 have a boat
Step 2 cast using ocean rod and reels
Step 3 cast using a lure no smaller than a small dog.
Step 4 repeat till 10000 casts are achieved then something huge eats your small dog lure.

Alexander Schumacher especially Medusa’s the 8oz ones are expensive. But ocean rods and reels eh that’s a bit far st croci musky mojos are where it’s at. I run round body sub reels or the revo max.

I live in Minnesota and I catch a lot of decent pike, but I’ve always wanted to catch a musky. I never really knew how to start and I’ve tried it a couple times, I just figured you just use big northern lures, but I never caught one. This video is such a great help and I love watching videos about fishing right in my home state This was super helpful! Keep catching hogs!

I've literally never tried for musky before. I've caught a 10 pound largemouth, 8 pound smallmouth, 30 pound striper, and a 45 pound flathead cat, yet I only just discovered that I live 30 minutes from the lake where my state record musky was caught 🤦
Well, now it's time to learn

Glad you mentioned the bass rig. I've only been musky fishing one time in my life. So, I used the biggest rods I have, They're for big catfish but they work. I was pulling double magnum 10's with my Abu 6500 C3 "Catfish Special". The setup wasn't nearly as nice as my father-in-laws musky rod and reel, but it got the job done.

    Dumbest fish in the lake?
    Hmmm.. ok.. lol
The reason they bite baits while the rod is swishing in the water is because they are the top predator in fresh water. Would you say a shark is the dumbest fish in the ocean? I'd hope not, because they are very intelligent but ONCE AGAIN.. The TOP PREDATOR in their waters. Just like muskies, they have no predators other than man. They eat what they want and when they want simply because they can. Also, lake fishing is ALOT different than river fishing. But I love yalls videos and keep up the good work.

Hey Lee and Robbie, thanks for putting in the time giving to the community like you do. I've found that the muskie fishing community is pretty generous and welcoming. I've actually caught a couple employing tactics I've picked up from TA videos.
One thing I've noticed in videos that isn't really mentioned much is often I'll see people set the hook back in the direction of the fish on the eight. I've lost one eight fish just from taking too long to net it in very shallow water, and that's the only one I've ever hooked. I believe I pulled straight up on that one. On the other two fish I've had a realistic chance of hooking on the eight, I also pulled straight up (rod loaded up but it didn't get hooked, yes hooks were sharp) and on the second pulled away before the fish had even closed its mouth. It's hard to not underreact if a fish eats on the eight out of nowhere when you had no idea it's there, and it's hard not to overreact if you're expecting it but have limited experience. Especially standing in the water with the fish. Do you think it's a good plan to condition myself to set the hook in the direction of the fish when possible?

Enjoy watching you guys! Thanks for the videos. I reeled in my first musky the other day. As I told Sam with Blue Ride Musky, these videos of pointers and recommendations go a long way. For instance, never would have thought about something simple like buying a pair of bolt cutters to cut the hooks. I can say I safely caught and released that beautiful species off a fish with no harm done. So thanks guys! Tight lines!

Also, finding musky holding structure and how to plan your drift to fish that particular feature would be great to see as well. the first muskie I ever caught cut through my 120lb fluorocarbon leader just thrashing its head while in the net. It is wire leaders only for this guy! Great vid BTW, I have been watching your channel quite a bit the past few weeks and love the content. The Lake St. Clair videos in particular take me back. I grew up in Sarnia, ON and fished LSC quite a bit as a teenager. I never did figure the muskie out but as I've matured as an angler I'm excited to go back and get into some of those spotted skie's!

I know for bass, reel gears have come a long way - high-end, high-speed reels no longer lack the torque and drag lower speed baitcast reels once had.. not sure if this holds true for the larger musky stuff.
I use a Cardiff 400 for 8" Huddleston (big single jighook swimbait rod) for largemouth - it works great for the price.
I also have a lews Superduty 300 with the power handle I'm tempted to repurpose.. I have an iRod Bailey Swim (8' XH bass big swimbait rod), I bet it could throw bucktails (it's rated up to like 3-10oz lures, I think)

So if they are the dumbest fish in the lake then we’re the dumbest anglers on the lake 😂 putting in countless hours and days on the water for a fish we throw back!

Im gonna be trying this year to get Muskie through the ice here in PA. If I do it will be my first. Hopefully I can get out on open water before that but it doesn't look like that's happening.

Super cool gear recommendations. But um, where's the video on locating muskies in each season? What about structural elements? What about forage preferences? What about lake recommendations? What about using electronics to locate them? What about preferred cover and habitat?

I have the sojurn rod here in wesr virginia the rod goes from 2 to 10 oz lure they are not that big i use okuma cirtrix it can handle 1/4 up to what ever i use a smaller rod and use the same reel top water is the only way to go !!!!!! I have caught a musky on rapala more than anything j15 f 18 med heavy bass rod here it works well also i would not know how to act if i caught one as big as you guys do!!!!!!

Until I can get a better rod would a 7’6” med-heavy catfish rod with a 6500 Ambassador conventional throwing small buck tails work? I can throw the Penn 140 Squidder or Penn 500 Jig aster on for some extra fun. I think I have 50 or 60 lb mono on the reel. If I tie my own leaders what size barrel swivels and snap swivels should I look to be using? I had though stainless leaders would be the only way to go but fluorocarbon seems much more economical. Would the stainless leader be recommended let’s say for bank fishing near rip rap?

Where I’m from in wv. We have big musky but my 8’6 rod can be a bit long my dad uses 7’2 and a 7’4 rod. Cause some of the smaller rivers we fish have monsters but sometimes I have to steal my dads other rod from him to be able to cast but on lakes I think my dads jealous of my rod. I also right hand cast and retrieve bc all the shops near me mostly sell rh retrieve reals but with spinning reals I lh retrieve.
