Back in the day I scored a 50hp 3 cylinder Yamaha outboard. Didn't need it. But someone was selling it for cheaper than they had any right to (older retiree couldn't pull start it). $250 I slapped that thing on my 16 steel johnboat and it would basically plane on just the motor shaft and the last 2 inches of hull at WOT. It was ridiculously fun.
If I gotta have more than three outboards just give me two inboard diesels. Jeez. It'd take two hours just to flush all those at the end of the day not to mention parts and maintenance for 6 high end engines. That's just showing off.
Shockingly, I think this is done to make maintenance easier over an inboard engine. All of these can be serviced from the top. They have a “hood” that pops up for regular maintenance. Fewer through holes below the waterline in the hull too. And if something goes wrong you can just pull off the motor and drop another on. Often with large inboards the boat is built around the engine. Overhauls/rebuilds have to be done with those motors in place many times.

That 59’ is a beast. Gorgeous vessel as well. But that thing will move. I don’t know how many people have gone 80-100 mph on water but it’s completely different than doing that on the street. My buddy who is a multi millionaire and moved down to Florida about ten years ago from VA loves boats and has had boats ever since I have known him which was back in 2000. He had some supercharged Yamaha’s jet ski’s or Sea-Doo’s whatever people call them and we use to take them out on the inner coastal in VA by route 13 which is the Kellam bridge tunnel and those things went 80-85mph on the water. That is scary going that fast on the water. It took me a couple sections just to get it up to full throttle because that’s fast. I can’t imagine what a rush it must be for those drivers doing 200mph on the water. It has to be insane

That's not how that works... sure at some point diminishing returns or physics limiting how much power you can put down but 2 engines are faster than 1 if they're the same engine.
