Kinda made it semi in Denmark where I'm from, but my ambitions is soooo big! Listening to this is so unreal because I've seen his journey 1-1 like he tells it here. All the way from his Ekowraith track Booming Track, to his first release under Porter Robinson called Say My Name. So crazy listening to this. I just know that one day I'll be where he's at, just with my singing pop music instead

The vibe I get from Porter Robinson’s newest album, is like the music version of drawings if that makes sense. It is art, but with sound. Been resonating with his work lately and always cheers me up when I’m feeling down or out of balance.
"this was me learning to love real life again" Porter is such an incredibly beautiful soul and I'm so glad he found this journey of healing. I'm so glad he's found this profound love for himself. We're so lucky he's then able to share that with us through his music.

Although I've really enjoyed his music, I've never listened to an interview or new anything about Porter. I am presently surprised to find he's a genuinely level headed dude who just likes making music. Thanks for the podcast!
I resonate so much with Porter on not wanting to move away from home. You can work from anywhere you want in modern society, so proximity to friends and family is the most important thing in the world to me.
As someone from Greensboro and Raleigh, I totally agree with Porter on how it's a pretty great state. Beautiful mountains, a coast line, and the 4 seasons.
This is the best interview I’ve seen. Porter, I love how you can describe your feelings so well. I appreciate you expressing yourself so deeply for all of us to listen. xxx
this was an insightful interview! the EDM world is massive so i know Porter is probably outside of Zach's and Dan's wheelhouse, but I appreciate their time sitting and understanding Porter's journey and timeline of EDM over the years. Both Porter and Zedd were some of the first DJs that I went to see live when I first got into the scene. His Worlds album is iconic, Shelter still makes us cry, and Clarity is still a bop whenever Zedd drops it at his shows. Great job guys!
I loved this talk. As another musician here currently in almost the same years long musical rut Robinson talked about, this was really great to hear, even if my future in music is still unclear. After dedicating most of my life and education to music as well as it being such a creative outlet, having slide into disliking everything you make to the point of having a huge fear of "giving up on music" was very very familiar. Porter himself seems like great loving person and I can relate to his internet-lead upbringing and shy insecure personality traits he's going through. Where he is now seems amazing and he's obviously gained a lot of emotional intelligence through therapy. I wish him all the best for the future ♥️ If I had any advice for people in the same situation (even though I'm not really out of it yet), it's to live more life like Porter said (i.e: jobs and friends, lockdown showed me that) and have god damn fun with music instead of thinking of it as something that has to be done. Jam with people, throw your composition/production "routine" out and sample your favourite funny video or something, take risks, listen to new music. You can have fun again.
you are an outstanding interviewer sir. clearly you did your homework and you’re so good at getting the artist to open up and asking questions that will clearly get them talking. great great job
Porter's discussion about being consumed by the fear of moving away is something I am struggling with now, but it is nice to know that others deal with it too. To me, Nurture is about growing and becoming the best version of yourself possible. Love you Porter
Nurture is incredible but now it makes sense. The human behind it fought through so much to make it. I'm so thankful to Porter Robinson for showing us all how to heal
Really connected with Porter’s struggle to find purpose and feeling like you don’t know what you’re doing. Really glad to hear that he’s doing better. Mad props for doing you!
I feel like my journey aligned so closely with porter's. I heard language early on.. Say my name was my anthem when it first came out, and then worlds came out when I was in the most intense mental health crisis of my life. I remember playing it in the mental hospital. And today, I've found myself going through the most beautiful growth that I never thought possible. And in the midst of it Nurture comes out....I just..🥺🖤

I adore Porter. We have many similarities, such as DDR being a big influence in our lives and spending days on end as a kid starting at a computer browsing the internet while also experiencing the excitement of learning something new (for him it was music, for me it was graphic design). It feels awesome to be able to connect with an artist on a level beyond music. He is a very talented artist and I really look forward to seeing what he has in store for us in his music career. Thank you for the great interview Zach!
I am so glad I watched/listened to this whole thing because it makes me passionate again to pursue music, gaining confidence, and gave me insight on Clarity and 2 of my favorite songs of his. I was literally listening to Musician yesterday, just 'cause I love it so much, and I've always wondered about the meaning of those lyrics in those songs, especially because I relate to those lyrics of internal criticism and hope. Thank you, Porter, for being so open and vulnerable with your music and self. It inspires and encourages us listeners and fans out there
Honestly, I've struggled to fall in love with new music for years. Nothing has really hit home for me for a long time. But Nurture? I absolutely fell in love with every song within the album. You can feel the feeling he puts in to all the songs and the meanings they have.

While i’m not a big fan of his most recent music, I have a lot of respect for him as a whole and I think he’s a huge value to the dance community.

I will always love Porter Robinson, his music always make me feel Free and Alive. Its putting my soul in a new world where everything is okay and free, forget reality for minutes. That’s how his music helps me 💚💙
Hearing about "Finding something new to love" really just.... it was cathartic to hear. Ever since Musician came out, and going back to Look at the Sky, I've just been constantly feeling like "Porter is basically at the point where I would've been at his age" Just on a philosophical level of appreciating the things around us, and knowing when to move forward. These past few months and finally hearing the full album has been a journey all wrapped up in one. I loved this interview, and so glad we got to hear more about Porter's own journey from DDR to Nuture!
So funny that the ending lines in Mirror were brought up and fascinating how Porter described it. The end of that song has broken me many times before and helped me cope with personal struggles. That voice has bounced around in my head numerous times to remind me that everything is ok and the problems are all in my head.
For those whom aren’t not people who produce EDM, to explain it easier to ya’ll. Honestly edm producers and “best makers” just whored themselves out and everyone started to sound the same quicker than usually with trends and life cycles of products. Hood on porter been a fan of him since 2012 glad you see the young boi make it.
This is such a vast stupid generalisation. There are a lot of producers who have a unique sound. Stop acting like Porter is the only one in the world who makes unique music lol.
@@kraithaywire That's not really the case in EDM though. EDM is America's capitalistic take on electronic music and its a sad attempt that is only focused on extracting money from naive people who know nothing about quality electronic music. There has been no artistic evolution in EDM in 10 years.
Yea i dont agree. I'll give a little push-back because the EDM fans are so consumed by the constraints of "dance-music" that Porter's fanbase (being majority edm fans) literarily assume Porter's making new genres, when that's not the case at all. Nurture has a very similar tone to "Notes on A Conditional Form" by The 1975, who've been making literarily this kind of music for years. It's almost as if Porter brings in these genres to the edm world and given his cultlike fanbase, it gets consumed as the holy grail. Also don't get me wrong, Nurture is a great album in of itself. Just sharing my thoughts.
@@kraithaywire as a producer who has toured my IG is Sam Lamar. And as someone who’s been around this scene for a bit (I’ve discovered this dude since his Basscannon first dropped) the issue is armchairs. You’ve proved my point to the exact T.

aaaa this interview is amazing i love the questions u asked too, i feel like i left this video knowing sm more about porter n reflecting on how far he’s come c:
Musician gave me a similar meaning to most. I constantly live with the struggle of trying to become a relevant producer at an age where most people are looking to buy a house or start a family. Its drving me insane having to spend 8-10 hours a day on work I really don't give a damn about, then having to come home and get creative and literally switch that mindset. And it all boils down to the fact that I shouldn't have listened to people talk me out of music when I was younger. I should have trusted my gut and decided thats what I wanted to do. My interpretation of Musician is an ode to that scenario. If you are young, and music is your passion please don't let anyone talk you out of it.
Being from Chapel Hill as well (by extension Raleigh and Durham) there's a good music scene here. It's definitely more on the "Indie" side (Porter Robinson is probably the most famous act, aside from James Taylor, and infamously Ryan Adams). For contemporary groups we got Sylvan Esso, Iron and Wine, Wye Oak, and then older bands from the 90s/2000s Archers of Loaf, Polvo, Superchunk. etc. There's actually a fair amount groups moving here from bigger cities because we have a vibrant scene and good quality of living/cheaper rent (although that's rising with gentrification).
Thank you so much Porter for sharing this with us! I am so glad you followed your heart and not what other people thought! Thank you so much for not quitting music and thank you for beeing you!
Thank you for this Porter. Your album is what we really need this time. We need hope and this album Nurture was the embodiment of that. My favourite album of 2021 💙
I feel like so much has changed since when I first discovered Porter when I was like 15 till now. I used to listen to his songs, and try to make my own music and daydream. I also knew both of them from the FL Studio forum. Madeon was Wayne Mont and they both did Eurodance. The energy from Eurodance music is just too perfect and felt like the 2000s. I wish that came back. Stuff was much simpler back then. Politics made everyone become lunatics, regardless of what party.
such profOUND things he's saying.... we are so lucky that nurture exists after everything he went through. thank you so much for this interview! always lovely to watch them (i am bery Big bangtan fan and get excited every time theyre on the show lmao)
I have so much more appreciation for his music now, after listening to him tell his story. really humble guy.. I knew i loved the way his songs sounded, but there was always some things that I couldn't fully grasp or understand completely about his tracks, and coming from a "bedroom producer/musician" it honestly kinda drove me nuts because i'm constantly trying to break down and replicate sounds that i find inspiring. and he's one of the only artist that i'm just not able to do that when listening lol. like I totally didn't know that his voice is behind all the vocals. n how he puts it through an effect to pitch it up an octave to get that super unique sound. Lol I know that probably sounds like a no brainer, but i had no clue. n now I want to go back and listen to Worlds again with this new found insight.
I also grew up in the Chapel Hill area so it’s really cool hearing Porter is still there. Great area and no surprise he’s stayed around. Wonder if we ever crossed paths...

I will always love Porter Robinson, his music always make me feel Free and Alive.
Its putting my soul in a new world where everything is okay and free, forget reality for minutes. That’s how his music helps me 💚💙
Letting go is the answer to everything in life. Great story.
Zach man you ask such good relevant questions and let porter really talk and go in on his thoughts keep killin it this was sick
Porter Robinson is just a vibe! Literally The fucking best no matter what he puts out
Hearing about "Finding something new to love" really just.... it was cathartic to hear. Ever since Musician came out, and going back to Look at the Sky, I've just been constantly feeling like "Porter is basically at the point where I would've been at his age"
Just on a philosophical level of appreciating the things around us, and knowing when to move forward. These past few months and finally hearing the full album has been a journey all wrapped up in one. I loved this interview, and so glad we got to hear more about Porter's own journey from DDR to Nuture!
This has to be a dream, my three favorite people in one video. Love you guys, thank you.
This was such a great interview and such a wonderful album. 💚💙💚🎶
Damn porter is a real life angel boy and I’m here for it!!! Thanks for this interview 💖💖
love him forever
So funny that the ending lines in Mirror were brought up and fascinating how Porter described it. The end of that song has broken me many times before and helped me cope with personal struggles. That voice has bounced around in my head numerous times to remind me that everything is ok and the problems are all in my head.
Crazy how he talks about life experience being unused raw material. Really puts a lot into perspective.
@@laurennm.1092 Perfectly stated! That's exactly how I feel. These fans are just... weird. And this is coming from a guy who loves Porter's music.
@@kraithaywire as a producer who has toured my IG is Sam Lamar. And as someone who’s been around this scene for a bit (I’ve discovered this dude since his Basscannon first dropped) the issue is armchairs. You’ve proved my point to the exact T.
I also went through a couple years musical rut and that’s when I discovered Nurture and it got me through that time so it feels really special to me that porter also went through something similar
aaaa this interview is amazing i love the questions u asked too, i feel like i left this video knowing sm more about porter n reflecting on how far he’s come c:
Whoah that last minute Nature vs Nurture bit at the end is crazzzzyyyy that just blew my mind. So profound
Porter Robinson is himself, you can tell he has a beautiful soul as it shows in his music 🎶
Porter 💕
His music has made such a huge impact in my life. From worlds and now to nurture.
This is so dope porter going out there and being active and stuff love it
Musician gave me a similar meaning to most.
For contemporary groups we got Sylvan Esso, Iron and Wine, Wye Oak, and then older bands from the 90s/2000s Archers of Loaf, Polvo, Superchunk. etc. There's actually a fair amount groups moving here from bigger cities because we have a vibrant scene and good quality of living/cheaper rent (although that's rising with gentrification).
love that porter guy
Awesome interview. Porter Robinson is so human.
I don't know what was more beautiful; listening to Nurture or listening to porter talk about it.
Thank you so much Porter for sharing this with us! I am so glad you followed your heart and not what other people thought! Thank you so much for not quitting music and thank you for beeing you!
Wish porter would throw shows in NC !!!! People would come out the wood works for that! Loved secret sky what a great live show!
Dang, this was a much needed interview, so much motivation coming from Porter
Thank you for this Porter. Your album is what we really need this time. We need hope and this album Nurture was the embodiment of that. My favourite album of 2021 💙
Great chat!! Really enjoyed this conversation. Thanks Porter!
Porter is so precious 🐰
yes. the 🐐🐐🐐
i love all porter's work so much! thanks for existing. 🥺
wow, "Musician" was already pretty impactful but this added a lot more nuance to it knowing porter's struggles to create Nurture as a whole. thanks
I'm so happy that you found your inspiration again Porter.
such profOUND things he's saying.... we are so lucky that nurture exists after everything he went through. thank you so much for this interview! always lovely to watch them (i am bery Big bangtan fan and get excited every time theyre on the show lmao)
This guy have a diverse talent...i really love his masterpiece🥰🥰
god im happy porter showed up :)
it really made my evening a whole lot better
2:02 Idk why I loved this part
this interview is everything. i wish they asked about the track unfold, it was next level
i love u porter!!! so proud of you for releasing nurture!
He put out some amazing sounds ! Been a fan since like 2013 when his Spitfire album came out
I also grew up in the Chapel Hill area so it’s really cool hearing Porter is still there. Great area and no surprise he’s stayed around. Wonder if we ever crossed paths...

Thank you 🙏🏻 😆 ❤️
