- In this video we fully assemble the C3 Corvette air conditioning, leak test it by pulling a vacuum and finally we charge it up with R134a.

The electric vacuum pump is well worth it. I had one of those noisy things and finally tossed it. The electric vacuum pump is useful for testing the other vacuum systems on C3s too.
I bought my pump from the jungle site for under 100$ for both pump and gauges. The pump also uses pag oil.
Congrats. I've got a radiator core support (arrives today) and a dewitts radiator to install before I get to this, but I've bookmarked it for sure. I think I'll save this project until spring 😂 Thanks for documenting it.
Thanks for watching!
I'm glad you got it all fixed up, Eric.
I've never heard of putting oil in the lines and condenser, only the compressor since it's the only mechanical part that needs oil, actually. It's all I ever did.
Are you going to take the old compressor apart so we can see how it's made, or is it a core you have to take back?
Have a good week!
I suppose if all the oil is in the compressor you could have some time with no return oil on initial start up. But the main reason for that information is to be able to estimate fairly accurately how much oil replace if you replace, say, a leaking condenser or evaporator, or hose.
Thanks Bob! 🤣 Yeah I debated over whether or not to add oil the way I did. My main concern was introducing all of the oil that the entire system contains all at once to the compressor and blowing a seal. Of course this may not even be a worry. Clearly I've never done a whole AC system like this before.
@@Jeff_Pendleton It appears the main leak was at the exit fitting on the condenser. It was a mess and it was really loose when I took the system apart. That connection is really difficult to get to without special tools.
