  • In this video I will be taking a part a Lexus GX 460 triple beam LED headlight.
The 3 Bi-LED projectors in the light are identical.
The light is relatively simple to disassemble. The hardest part was figuring out that the front bezel is glued into the housing with the same glue as the lens.
The light has both an external and an internal control unit.
    OEM Part number: 81145-60Q00

Future request if you can take a part a 2014 Lexus LS460 triple bulb headlight and if it’s possible - show to replace the parking (swoosh) light.
From what I understand Lexus forum members have said it’s not a replaceable bulb?

Is there a way to disesmble the lens and put it back on? There seems to be a small plastic bit lodged behind the glass in mine.

Great video! In theory do you think it is possible to replace the older version headlamp from a GX460 (14-17)with this newer one (2020)?
There are quite a lot of aftermarket headlamps that have made their versions but I'm interested in knowing if the OEM for the newer models would work.
Being that they are the same size/shape I imagine some modifications that would need to be made are in the sensors and plugs.
    What are your thoughts?

I bought a pair of 2021 OEM GX lights, but I now realize the plugs are different. Believe they will bolt right in, but need to find an electrical harness adapter!

@@gleblanc8523 thanks for sharing! Let me know how it goes with the electrical harness adapter. I've looked at forums and haven't found anyone to do this.

How did you actually remove the lens? I tried baking in the oven and using a heat gun... couldn't get it to budge.

As stated, I cut it off using a reciprocating saw. Took about 5-10 minutes to separate the lens from the housing.

@@gftgrill appreciate the response - I only heard "cut off" in the video... didn't get the saw part. I'm trying to replace just the lens, so I'm afraid cutting off the damaged one may not leave me with a clean enough surface to replace with the new lens. Back to the oven for longer I suppose. Thanks again

@@KennethB-ff2de Try using a heat gun and a sharp thing knife or something similar to cut the glue at the edges.

    Are the 3 projectors identical?

So now, in modern cars, if your led burns out for some reason, you can't replaced it? you have to replace the entire housing? this is going to be a problem in 10 years for anyone who owns these. Led's are supposed to last long, but you never know. Unless someone sells these housings modified so you can replace the bulbs, but for now, this is not looking good.

It will be interesting to see what happens. I can certainly see that 10-15 years from now some cars will become scrap because the headlights have failed and the owner is unable to pay 500+ for a new headlight (if they are even available for their vehicle)

    • @hedgehogthesonic3181
      @hedgehogthesonic3181 ปีที่แล้ว

@@gftgrill Most likely the headlight won't even be available, and in some cases to remove the headlight you have to remove the bumper and who knows what else. It's ridiculous what this has come to. As you said it's going to be interesting to see what people is going to do when their headlights burn out and it is not possible to replace the bulb. I saw that the corolla full led headlight is close to a $1000 which is pathetic. This is bad, and dangerous.

@@hedgehogthesonic3181 Yes. We will have to see how the aftermarket companies respond to this. The GX LED headlight in this video has an MSRP of 3,200 USD for 1 light. The cheapest full LED OEM Lights I have seen have a MSRP of around 450-600 per light.
