    Steve, I worked for a Oil Company in Linden, NJ { GULF OIL } before I retired. A good way to check for water is to get some water paste on a stick and stick it into the tank. The paste is the color green..and if it turns purple that means water.. We did on occasion get a bad batch of oil and it all had to be pumped out of the stations. You can order the paste on line...it;s good for gas and oil.

    Moisture in the tank is often caused by condensation in the tank. The tank is vented to the atmosphere. During the day the tank fills with warmer humid air, at night the tank cools and the water vapor condenses, droplets form on the inside walls of the tank and run to the bottom of the tank. Repeats every day. The filter has to be changed regularly Also may need a water filter separator. Same phenomenon occurs in boat fuel tanks where the fuel sits for long periods of time without being used. Also water condensate collects to the bottom and gels is stirred up when the tank is filled and the gel goes through the system. Also keeping the tank mostly full instead of mostly empty reduces the volume of air space in which the condensate can form.

    water can occur due to condensation inside the tank due to warm air entering during filling and then when it gets cold it drips into the oil and since oil floats on water the water is taken into the filter first...

    Hey Steve, that's "Bio-Fuel". Oil companies blend it with the #2 heating oil to get state rebates. It burns very clean but does "muck" up the filters quickly. Unfortunately the days of clean #2 Fuel Oil (Diesel) are gone. But this "Bio-Fuel" is renewable and made in the USA. You will also notice extremely low PPM in your flue gas. It's good stuff just will need filters changed more regularly.

    • @robertkieras1522
      @robertkieras1522 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe it's state law that you have to have at least a 2.5% blend of Bio in your #2. Most companies in Western MA are doing closer to a 10-15% Blend. That brown color oppose to red or black is a clear sign of Bio-fuel. It's all about trying to make it more "green" / better for environment, and not relying on foreign oil. As much as technician's don't like it because of the plugging of filters/strainers/nozzles; It's good for the industry. It also burns less bright so a richer fire helps keep's OHMS in range.

    • @stevenlavimoniere
      @stevenlavimoniere  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      i have herd that bio fuel crap was coming leave it to the feds to fuck up a good thing ,they did it with gasoline .i will find out this year / season for sure as i go do burner service .

    • @robertkieras1522
      @robertkieras1522 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with yah Steve, it definitly gave us alot of headaches last season. The big problem is you set a burner up and then if they get a delivery with a different percent blend of it, it will change how its burning. You might run into Riello burners "mis-firing" on/off quickly. This is from them not seeing good light cause of the Bio, usually cutting the air slightly will solve the problem. Job Security LOL

    If the oil continues to be delivered contaminated with water, you can install a double filter system used on diesel trucks. Most storage tanks have water in the bottom of them.

    • @robertborchert932

    Even though all the trucks get oil from the same tanker, one of the trucks is going to get the sludge that's in that tanker. Also I suspect that some trucks get oil that was removed from oil tanks from people converting to gas.
