Thank you for your advice. I’m an independent artist myself. I’ve been selling my music since 2019, but didn’t have a lot of support from my fans. I think it’s about selling it right to the public which is why I want sign up for music publishing on Ditto. I’ve been emerging since 2017 and I started just releasing my music without it published. Now I’m gonna be working at a full time job , I’ll get enough income. I realise now to have a better music sale, it would be good for me to do publishing because then you can reach out to more audience and it looks professional. You also get royalties.
Thanks for the info Charles. What's the best way to approach a larger publisher like Sony with your song/s? Do they typically accept demos or do you just have to put your music on TH-cam and let a publisher approach you if you're lucky enough that they are somehow exposed to it?
I am a singer song writer, 4 of my songs are ready for radios & publishing, i really need to publish it, but a bit lost about what is the best way or who is the best publisher. How can i find A&R? I heard if thry like your music & ideas they will help you with making your album, is that right? By the way, thanks for your video, was helpful.
Thanks Charles. I'm a little unclear still. I have registered all my works with PROs as a CA (Composer/Author). I have released music non exclusively with a Record Label but I never signed a Publishing deal ever. I believe that makes my the "publisher". Do I need to re-register all the works as a Published also so in fact, there is 2 entries for each work?
what do you mean by sync royalties? which group in canada collects those? are those royalties for the publishing of the song or for the master recording? I get money from SOCAN for songs played on TV but I don't get any royalties for the masters when the song is played on TV/Netflix- should I be?
This was extremely helpful and insightful, Thank you for posting this. Seems like the wild west for independent Musicians but a fortune could be made if you do things right for yourself it seems.
Hey, thank you for your video. I have a question. I'm an African music producer and I work with people outside of the continent. So can I get access to those companies or entities you mentioned? Because I don't want to straight sell my compositions in case some of them pop up globally.
Thank you for the information. I have released a song through TuneCore and also have my own independent publishing company. Is it possible to have TuneCore do the publishing admin as well or does that confuse the PRO on who gets what? It's hard getting answers to know how to figure this out. Any help would be great!
Heĺlo, what should i do to collect royalties from everywhere and do i need some company-music publisher in this case if i live in Russia but my music (country sang in english) sell in USA? Do i need company-music publisher if i distribute my music through Tunecore, and in special on Bandcamp?
Hi Charles! I’ve written a piece of music (which is my first one) and I’m trying to get it published. But this song being my first one, I’m not recognized by anyone or any entity that would make it easy to publish. I want to write more music so I was hoping you could give me a good starting point as an inexperienced first timer
Hey Charles, first of all great video - very clear and to the point. I had a question i was watching another video where the guy said when you get the publishing deal you would need to transfer the copyright to the publishing company. Is this a different type of copyright? or is this incorrect information - Just trying to see what limitations going with a publishing company has in regard to songwriter copyright. Thanks
hey carl, i think that might be a different copyright, when you get a publishing deal, you might give up a lot of your "publishing" but i've never heard of giving up your copyright. i mean, you can. but then you're saying someone else wrote the song really, right?
Hi Charles, Thank you for the video. What would be the best approach for a indie songwriter getting ghost writing opportunities? Say if someone had 100+ finished songs just doing nothing. Do you reach out to publishers? Labels? up coming Artist's? I'm not a singer, and write for my band, so some get produced, but have so many songs I write that don't, Ideally I would be able to monetise all these songs I am making. Any advice or information with this would be great! Thanks
