The summon component to it is a bad design choice. If they chose a random 3-mana minion, it'd be good. Even if they upped the cost by 1, it'd still be decent. But having a buff spell that has a chance to summon Doomsayer, Pyromancer or Cho can instantly fuck up it's intended effect, making it worthless in constructed. I doubt it'll get much arena use either.

In all fairness, it's only been expansions that have had ragers. TGT and Whispers both brought them. so expect one in the next expansion, but not an adventure.
Moat lurker doesn't say enemy minion. So for example if you use it to kill your own Sylvanas you get the mindcontrol and a new sylvanas when lurker dies, amirite? Amiwrong?
I put some thought into it and here is how I think this card might work: It gains it's deathrattle as part of it's battlecry. For example, it kills your own Sylvanas and gains Deathrattle: summon Sylvanas on your side of the board. I'm expecting a Lurker that is summoned, not played, to not have a deathrattle at all, even if the text says so. Probably won't even have the deathrattle icon on the bottom, but thats just speculation on my part.

You can prevent taking damage from hero power and from flame imp. That's all. And a Zoolock doesn't want to play healing, it doesn't care about its life, it cares about opponent's life, that's why it's an aggro deck.
Moat lurker can be INSANE in N'Zoth decks if you target your own deathrattle minion, as the minion you target will trigger the deathratle twice, will revive twice, and this minion will revive as well. I'm uncertain if when brought back and re-killed will summon the minion again, but even if it doesn't, it will still be amazing instead of simply broken. I guess we'll have to see.
First time we see direct power creep over a class card? What? It's happened a bunch of times before, for example: Holy Smite -> Living Roots Mark of the Wild -> Mark of Y'Shaarj

Hmmm very interesting way to think about it, but i would guess not. Since the text is written like it is, i dont think it is coded as "Resummon for your opponent" i think its rather "Resummon for its original owner". But if it is like you asked, it would be an awesome counter to sylvanas
Genuinely curious, why the negativity of Nightbane templar, I mean it adds more minions to the board follows the paladin's curve on four and you get 4/5 for three mana. It allows paladin to confidently flood the board which they never could do after standard's rotation. It significantly helps out dragon paladin.
Um Kripp? Have you thought about the rotation AT ALL? Aggro Shaman will be DEAD after BRM, TGT, and LOE rotate out. Shaman will have to figure out how to use these slower cards just to survive. Try looking a bit further ahead in your next review.

BRM and TGT will go wild next April, and LOE with WOTG will go wild April 2018, so in a loooong time, in April 2019 its ONK (one night in Kara) and the future expansion which will go wild
Swashburgler being a battle cry is also good for a deathrattle + steal class cards deck. Because Huckster is a deathrattle on a 2/2, you're happy to pull it with nzoth, but a 1/1 you wouldn't want to pull (since your deck should be saturated enough with high-value deathrattle minions)
People always seem to underestimate cards that draw you cards. It makes your deck much more consistent and lets you cycle to what you want. I think the Runic Egg is very good in something like Warrior. If the enemy removes it, you get a 1 mana cycle. If he doesn't, the egg is a threat in terms of Battle Rage value. I think it's one of the more underrated cards in the set.
No. It doesn't. If the strictly better card is also bad and sees little to no play, then it doesn't increase the overall power level of currently viable decks. THAT is the definition of power creep.

Different effect. Not power creep. You could say similar, and that entomb is better, but they are not the same. The exact same text is used on maelstrom portal and arcane explosion, except maelstrom also gets a free 1 drop.
I feel that Violet Illusionist will see some good play with Weapon Warrior, Fatigue Warrior, and some Warlock decks. Also, Moat Lurker could have some fun (e.g. Protecting a special minion)
Kripp didn't say it, but here is what I thought based on several cards in this set. Eater of Secrets and Flare will become playable and probably needed once this expansion comes out.
About your purify; I think Blizzard has got a plan. You're seeing it in some other cards they released. Look at the Moat Lurker. If you combine it with the silence effect from the purify card, you're getting a very valuable combo that you can pull off with the only prerequisite being having both cards in your hands. Considering Assassinate costs 5 mana, this card combo becomes Assassinate + 3 mana 3/3 battlecry draw a card. Compared to the gnomish inventor's 4 mana 2/4 battlecry draw a card, it's slightly stronger. This also has a tendency to trade better into other 3 drops, unlike Gnomish which will die to 4/3 s. It seems like they're trying to push a self-silence meta for priest. Maybe we'll see a return of wailing soul in wild. We've actually seen self-silence decks in the past, although they didn't really take off.
I think Medivh's valet is specifically for the chinese players that like using ice block in tempo mage. I think nightbane templar will be amazing for dragon decks when they finally wise up and make cards that boost dragons once they are in play. No, not the menagerie ones.
nightbane templar is 3 mana for 4/5 distributed over multiple minions, I think it's pretty good lol. This is a game that was dominated for months by muster for battle and this card is essentially muster but it trades the light's justice for divine strength.
Priest of the Feast seems like a great card to me, same stats as water elemental and that is a really good card. And think about how many spells the average priest deck runs, its a lot, so you have potential for great value with the heals.
I knew that Kripp would think that Cloaked Huntress was Insane, I said it on the thread for this and someone said that it would be easily countered. I would be pretty gutted if I came across someone playing Eater of Secrets while playing with this in my deck. Which other cards do you think are OP in this set?
I think you undersold violet illusionist, seeing as the meta is dominated by aggro, weapon decks that run this will be much more favored vs aggro, because not only can you facetank a high attack minion, but then aggro has to spend damage killing a minion instead of you. I think this is an important card to look at with regards to control warrior vs any aggro, and even more important to look at the viability of control rogue increasing because of this card.
THIS IS HOW PURIFY COULD WORK IN THE UNICORN PRIEST DECK Turn 7: Arcanosmith, purify on the 0/5, opponent emotes you and doesn't attack it Turn 8: Divine spirit; divine spirit, inner fire, shield master, you now have a 20/20 with taunt
What's wrong with purify? It's a 2 mana, draw a card that could target a minion which already has no effects, or it could target that 4/5 2 mana defender. It could also silence that big guy that makes your minions cost more. It could silence that 4/4 3 mana sword that draws your opponent a card on death. It could silence Zombie Chow or Corrupted Healbot. The best part is, you get the extra reward of drawing a card as well as silencing abilities that give your opponent the advantage. Other silence cards don't give the draw. It could even silence Majordomo if you somehow get him. I think it's good in a lot of situations.
Then there's that 3/5 spider that can't attack unless you hero attacks. Then, there's The Beast. Plus, if you find yourself overdrawing because you have two Northshire Clerics out, you can silence one and still draw a card. You could also silence a Fel Reaver and get a 5-7 mana 8/8. There's lots of big minions that are unplayable simply because their effects harm the player or help the opponent.
+John Salame You are paying 2 mana to draw a card, and a -kinda- silence, since you can only silence your own minions. It makes no sense, why not just run "silence" then for 0 mana? You are paying 2 mana to draw a card, and the silence is worse.

Yes the weapon cost 3 for 3/2 but [Assassin Blade] used to be play and it's a 5 mana for 3/4 so here it's 6 mana for 3/3 but you save slots in your deck. And it's easier to play something with a 3 mana card. Maybe Blade fury ? 7 mana for 3, [Flamestrike] 7 mana for 4. Shaman cards: "don't fit in aggro shaman" = Bad ? excuse me but I just want to say, F the aggro shaman :o
you can actually use moat lurker in some VERY interesting ways , you couldhave it destroy stuff and then bring it back to your hand with shadowstep , since it didn't die your oppnent wont get their minion back , you can also use it on your own minions like sylvanas or maybe rhonin ... whatever deathrattle effects the kids are in these days maybe have the thing that give you 1/1 copies of the card use it on lurker so you have a lot of (short lasting) removal ... kind of like a freeze
Actually, frostbolt and quickshot are powercreeps of dark bomb, even if darkbomb was after frostbolt. My point: it's not the first time that we see powercreeps in class cards

I'm horrible at Rogue. I always lose health too quickly because I always attack the minions. Maybe with Deadly Fork I will finally be able to play Rogue. Using Kripp's crazy analogies, one could say that it is a 3 mana 3/3 weapon that makes you immune on the first attack. That's pretty good.
Arcanosmith would be pretty awesome if it was "Battlecry: Summon a random minion and give it 0/5 and Taunt." Most of the time it would be exactly the same, but super rarely it would have the effect of Sylvanis, Anomalous, Doomsayer, Twilight Summoner, Corrupted Healbot, Majordomo Executus etc etc etc... I can't help it, I love randomness.
I think Arcane Anomaly (15:27) might actually kind of sort of a little work in Priest in Arena. If you happen to go second and play this, Coin and PW:Shield, you'll have a 2/5 on turn 1 with the potential to get even bigger. Then again, Priest got Purify...

I don't understand what the fuss is all about regarding Purify. It does not fit in the current meta or outside of it for that matter but it is cool such card exists. The only unfortunate thing is that is was released as a part of an adventure.
To be honest. Maelstrom Portal might enable Midrange/Control Shaman. Shaman boardclears are usually too expensive to Combo with Halazeal. and this one could maybe do some serious work with Azure Drakes and a spell dmg totem here and there
Kripp the shaman portal is not the first power creep on a class card, Quick Shot creeped over dark bomb and there are several in just the basic set such as fireball and mortal strike

Also do you think this would be a good idea to implement in a game like Hearthstone? Also as a side note Violet Illusionist would not save you from Fatigue damage since this triggers before your actual turn starts, or am I wrong here? Arcane Giant would possible have insane synergy with Yogg if I'm not mistaken.
Maelstrom Portal isn't the first powercreep found in class cards, unless you literally mean its "power". Fireball is a better Mortal Strike. While not "stronger", it is more consistent.

I think Violet Illusionist is why they nerfed Master of Disguise. Imagine how insane that'd be in rogue. You'd have 1 damage gladiator's longbow every turn and ignore fatigue damage.
Wasn't Quick Shot direct power creep over Dark Bomb? That was a class card as well Kripp, so Malstrom Portal is not the first class card to be power crept.
You can't say it's powercreep if a different class gets the same spell but better. Mages can do 1 dmg with their heropower; that's why this spell in mage would be too strong but in shaman its fine(i hope).
What if blizzard is telling us something. What if unicorn priest is shadow-priest with murlocs, beasts and dragons? What if they created *Moat lurker* so you would get *8 mana 3/3- "destroy a minion, draw a card"*? What if *Violet illusionist* is for *spawn of shadows*? What if they gave us* priest of the feast* so shadow-priest can survive?

After this expansion, we really need an EDH style format for HS. something like 60 cards and life but you can only have 1 of each card. All wild cards allowed except ban Reno and Alex... thoughts?
So I have just one question to ask. Is Violet Illusionist good enough to make Cho'gall playable? Just think about it, turn 10 play Cho'gall,Violet Illusionist, and Kara Khazam. That's 17/16 in stats through 5 minions from 10 mana and no health spent. I want Cho'gall to be usable at some point so I hope this is enough. Obviously it won't fit into Zoo but maybe other decks types are made? Like a Suicide Warlock deck, using Violet Illusionist to make cards like Pit Lord harmless. I don't know just some thought.
I dunno if Maelstrom Portal is really power creep over Arcane Explosion. It's a different card for different classes. Kinda like Dark Bomb in Warlock vs Frost Bolt in Mage. Frost Bolt is clearly better, but Dark Bomb was still an important warlock card when it was around. We'll have to see if Maelstrom Portal is good in Shaman, but I'm not sure it's power creep.
For it to be power creep, it should make the other card unplayable by being completely better. Being that they belong to other classes, one cannot replace the other. Also mage has better cards that give spellpower so arcane explosion being worse kind of makes sense.
Perhaps arcane giant could earn a slot in tempo mage? The deck is already very spell-heavy, and sometimes it lacks the final punch, especially if yogg isn't drawn or doesn't deliver.
Doesn't silence remove negative effects? If it does then purify is an awesome counter to cards like corruption, blessing of wisdom, humility, repentance, aldor peacekeeper and power word: glory as those cards are used against your minions.

Genuinely curious, why the negativity of Nightbane templar, I mean it adds more minions to the board follows the paladin's curve on four and you get 4/5 for three mana. It allows paladin to confidently flood the board which they never could do after standard's rotation. It significantly helps out dragon paladin.

Aggro Shaman will be DEAD after BRM, TGT, and LOE rotate out.
Shaman will have to figure out how to use these slower cards just to survive.

Swashburgler being a battle cry is also good for a deathrattle + steal class cards deck. Because Huckster is a deathrattle on a 2/2, you're happy to pull it with nzoth, but a 1/1 you wouldn't want to pull (since your deck should be saturated enough with high-value deathrattle minions)
tldr: One Night In Karazhan cards basically all suck. Don't use real money to buy.

Why should you spend money in expansions
People always seem to underestimate cards that draw you cards. It makes your deck much more consistent and lets you cycle to what you want. I think the Runic Egg is very good in something like Warrior. If the enemy removes it, you get a 1 mana cycle. If he doesn't, the egg is a threat in terms of Battle Rage value. I think it's one of the more underrated cards in the set.

Different effect. Not power creep. You could say similar, and that entomb is better, but they are not the same. The exact same text is used on maelstrom portal and arcane explosion, except maelstrom also gets a free 1 drop.

About your purify; I think Blizzard has got a plan. You're seeing it in some other cards they released. Look at the Moat Lurker. If you combine it with the silence effect from the purify card, you're getting a very valuable combo that you can pull off with the only prerequisite being having both cards in your hands. Considering Assassinate costs 5 mana, this card combo becomes Assassinate + 3 mana 3/3 battlecry draw a card. Compared to the gnomish inventor's 4 mana 2/4 battlecry draw a card, it's slightly stronger. This also has a tendency to trade better into other 3 drops, unlike Gnomish which will die to 4/3 s. It seems like they're trying to push a self-silence meta for priest. Maybe we'll see a return of wailing soul in wild. We've actually seen self-silence decks in the past, although they didn't really take off.
I think Medivh's valet is specifically for the chinese players that like using ice block in tempo mage.
I think nightbane templar will be amazing for dragon decks when they finally wise up and make cards that boost dragons once they are in play. No, not the menagerie ones.

On the topic of Arcane Explosion, Kobolt Geomancer and Arcane Explosion was an amazing combo in the Two-Card Tavern Brawl.
Pretty pleased with what some of these cards do for my totem evolve deck. Just not sure what to switch out.
Moat Lurker is a 7 cost, 2 card Assassinate, Evolve, summon a random 7 cost minion with evolve in hand. Not bad.
nightbane templar is 3 mana for 4/5 distributed over multiple minions, I think it's pretty good lol. This is a game that was dominated for months by muster for battle and this card is essentially muster but it trades the light's justice for divine strength.

Priest of the Feast seems like a great card to me, same stats as water elemental and that is a really good card. And think about how many spells the average priest deck runs, its a lot, so you have potential for great value with the heals.

I knew that Kripp would think that Cloaked Huntress was Insane, I said it on the thread for this and someone said that it would be easily countered. I would be pretty gutted if I came across someone playing Eater of Secrets while playing with this in my deck. Which other cards do you think are OP in this set?
I think you undersold violet illusionist, seeing as the meta is dominated by aggro, weapon decks that run this will be much more favored vs aggro, because not only can you facetank a high attack minion, but then aggro has to spend damage killing a minion instead of you. I think this is an important card to look at with regards to control warrior vs any aggro, and even more important to look at the viability of control rogue increasing because of this card.
THIS IS HOW PURIFY COULD WORK IN THE UNICORN PRIEST DECK
Turn 7: Arcanosmith, purify on the 0/5, opponent emotes you and doesn't attack it
Turn 8: Divine spirit; divine spirit, inner fire, shield master, you now have a 20/20 with taunt
What's wrong with purify? It's a 2 mana, draw a card that could target a minion which already has no effects, or it could target that 4/5 2 mana defender. It could also silence that big guy that makes your minions cost more. It could silence that 4/4 3 mana sword that draws your opponent a card on death. It could silence Zombie Chow or Corrupted Healbot. The best part is, you get the extra reward of drawing a card as well as silencing abilities that give your opponent the advantage. Other silence cards don't give the draw. It could even silence Majordomo if you somehow get him. I think it's good in a lot of situations.
Then there's that 3/5 spider that can't attack unless you hero attacks. Then, there's The Beast. Plus, if you find yourself overdrawing because you have two Northshire Clerics out, you can silence one and still draw a card. You could also silence a Fel Reaver and get a 5-7 mana 8/8. There's lots of big minions that are unplayable simply because their effects harm the player or help the opponent.
+John Salame You are paying 2 mana to draw a card, and a -kinda- silence, since you can only silence your own minions. It makes no sense, why not just run "silence" then for 0 mana? You are paying 2 mana to draw a card, and the silence is worse.
+Shagglefire Maybe Blizzard just wants to see who can make a deck full of crappy cards and make it work. I think a Purify themed tournament would be pretty fun.

Is Deadly Fork that crappy? Yes the weapon cost 3 for 3/2 but [Assassin Blade] used to be play and it's a 5 mana for 3/4 so here it's 6 mana for 3/3 but you save slots in your deck. And it's easier to play something with a 3 mana card. Maybe Blade fury ? 7 mana for 3, [Flamestrike] 7 mana for 4.
Shaman cards: "don't fit in aggro shaman" = Bad ? excuse me but I just want to say, F the aggro shaman :o

Regarding the Maelstrom Portal power creep, we sort of saw this in reverse with Dark Bomb and Frost Bolt.
you can actually use moat lurker in some VERY interesting ways , you couldhave it destroy stuff and then bring it back to your hand with shadowstep , since it didn't die your oppnent wont get their minion back , you can also use it on your own minions like sylvanas or maybe rhonin ... whatever deathrattle effects the kids are in these days
maybe have the thing that give you 1/1 copies of the card use it on lurker so you have a lot of (short lasting) removal ... kind of like a freeze
Actually, frostbolt and quickshot are powercreeps of dark bomb, even if darkbomb was after frostbolt. My point: it's not the first time that we see powercreeps in class cards

I'm horrible at Rogue. I always lose health too quickly because I always attack the minions. Maybe with Deadly Fork I will finally be able to play Rogue. Using Kripp's crazy analogies, one could say that it is a 3 mana 3/3 weapon that makes you immune on the first attack. That's pretty good.
Oh, boy! Now it's even better with Violet Illusionist! And just think of what you could do with Violet Illusionist and Doomhammer or Gorehowl!
Arcanosmith would be pretty awesome if it was "Battlecry: Summon a random minion and give it 0/5 and Taunt." Most of the time it would be exactly the same, but super rarely it would have the effect of Sylvanis, Anomalous, Doomsayer, Twilight Summoner, Corrupted Healbot, Majordomo Executus etc etc etc... I can't help it, I love randomness.

I think Arcane Anomaly (15:27) might actually kind of sort of a little work in Priest in Arena. If you happen to go second and play this, Coin and PW:Shield, you'll have a 2/5 on turn 1 with the potential to get even bigger.

I don't understand what the fuss is all about regarding Purify. It does not fit in the current meta or outside of it for that matter but it is cool such card exists. The only unfortunate thing is that is was released as a part of an adventure.
To be honest. Maelstrom Portal might enable Midrange/Control Shaman. Shaman boardclears are usually too expensive to Combo with Halazeal. and this one could maybe do some serious work with Azure Drakes and a spell dmg totem here and there
Kripp the shaman portal is not the first power creep on a class card, Quick Shot creeped over dark bomb and there are several in just the basic set such as fireball and mortal strike

Maelstrom Portal isn't the first powercreep found in class cards, unless you literally mean its "power". Fireball is a better Mortal Strike. While not "stronger", it is more consistent.

I think Violet Illusionist is why they nerfed Master of Disguise. Imagine how insane that'd be in rogue. You'd have 1 damage gladiator's longbow every turn and ignore fatigue damage.
First power creep of class cards was Quick Shot over Dark Bomb.
Not sure if intended but you said 'expect from a decent 3 mana card' for Cat Trick which is 2 mana.
the minion Pantry Spider summons is also a 3 mana cost minion, so it could possibly give evolve shaman a boost

Wasn't Quick Shot direct power creep over Dark Bomb? That was a class card as well Kripp, so Malstrom Portal is not the first class card to be power crept.
Quick Shot is not a power creep because those are two different classes. I also would not call Malstrom Portal power creep but maybe that is just me.
You can't say it's powercreep if a different class gets the same spell but better. Mages can do 1 dmg with their heropower; that's why this spell in mage would be too strong but in shaman its fine(i hope).
The powercreep over a classcard i totally wrong - Revenge from Warrior was released earlier and is also obviously stonger than arcane explosion aswell
The interesting thing about Moat Lurker is that it gets rid of all buffs on the minion it destroys. Kind of like a delayed silence.
Iron forge portal is better in fatigue warrior because you don't want to fatigue faster than your opponent, even with armor.

What if they gave us* priest of the feast* so shadow-priest can survive?

Quick Shot was a direct power creep over an already used and almost auto include card. Arcane Explosion was rarely used anyway.

After this expansion, we really need an EDH style format for HS. something like 60 cards and life but you can only have 1 of each card. All wild cards allowed except ban Reno and Alex... thoughts?
So I have just one question to ask. Is Violet Illusionist good enough to make Cho'gall playable? Just think about it, turn 10 play Cho'gall,Violet Illusionist, and Kara Khazam. That's 17/16 in stats through 5 minions from 10 mana and no health spent. I want Cho'gall to be usable at some point so I hope this is enough. Obviously it won't fit into Zoo but maybe other decks types are made? Like a Suicide Warlock deck, using Violet Illusionist to make cards like Pit Lord harmless. I don't know just some thought.
I dunno if Maelstrom Portal is really power creep over Arcane Explosion. It's a different card for different classes. Kinda like Dark Bomb in Warlock vs Frost Bolt in Mage. Frost Bolt is clearly better, but Dark Bomb was still an important warlock card when it was around. We'll have to see if Maelstrom Portal is good in Shaman, but I'm not sure it's power creep.
Can you target the stranglethorn tiger? I'm not sure if I've ever attempted a target spell on a friendly stealth minion before.

For it to be power creep, it should make the other card unplayable by being completely better. Being that they belong to other classes, one cannot replace the other. Also mage has better cards that give spellpower so arcane explosion being worse kind of makes sense.
Perhaps arcane giant could earn a slot in tempo mage? The deck is already very spell-heavy, and sometimes it lacks the final punch, especially if yogg isn't drawn or doesn't deliver.
