I bought one, but like all of these on the market is the standard equiped ones, and not the S-lines unfortunatly, so its like they review another car lol.
Not much wrong with this A3. Gorgeous interior, space for humans in the rear and a good boot. Those lights are amazing. You demonstrated the smoothness of the gearchange perfectly Matt. That 1.5 TFSI is something else. I wanted my mate to try it in his 2019 Golf but he went default diesel. I just know that this will be sharper without a big diesel in the nose. Thank you very much this was a treat.
Love the Hitch Hiker's Guide to The Galaxy reference! I have driven a car with this engine and transmission (a Skoda Karoq), and it was very smooth and torquey. The twin cylinder mode was particularly fun.
The all black stunt spaceship from Hittchikers Guide was owned by the rock group called Disaster Area. Sums up the design of the dashboard perfectly in just two words!
This is something that me and Ed from Twin Cam were chatting about on Twitter the other day, how cars now are all just the same colour inside, the matt black and grey colours (i know there is shiny black in here too) and how cars now are pretty much devoid of coloured interiors. Remember when cars had brown, blue, cream and even green (Volvos) interiors. I do like some of the safety features in these and being an Audi you can expect those features and the infotainment centre too. It seems to handle well and has enough grunt to move it around easy enough. The fronts on Audi's seem to be getting angrier and angrier with every revision, soon it will just be the hulk face on the front ready to smash any car in its way lol. Seriously though, i do like some of the styling ideas it has like the aluminium strip across the dashboard and the screens for the dials making them plain and easy to read, also i like you can configure the dash to how you want it, which is a good touch. I dont like how spare wheels are becoming an after thought now, i think they all should have one still even if its only a space saving one. Couldnt they fit it under the seat or something? The boot looks a good size too. Great video as always and im liking this modern mondays theme too.
4:33 What a great safety tip that "Dutch reach" is! We've had a number of cyclists killed here by car doors opening unexpectedly. I'll be sharing that technique.
When did we feel the need for a visual display on a light switch? Technology is now becoming more saleable than the car itself. Even the 35 boot badge doesn't mean 3.5 litre like on a car but more like a water capacity on a washing machine. I rest my case.
All the new tech in cars these days is a bit marmite, plus when most stuff goes ''wrong'' the car needs to go to a dealer for repair / inspection, and most of us will be fully aware that ''most dealers'' are run badly and take the utter piss on cost. Still feel ''ALL'' cars should have a spare wheel, not having a spare wheel for me is a deal breaker and the lack of spare wheels is purely a car manufacture cutting costs.
@@G4RY1159 I agree but I guess that (a) manufacturers can remove weight from cars by replacing spare wheels with puncture repair kits (ever more important in the drive to reduce carbon emissions) and (b) fewer car buyers have the ability to fit a spare wheel!
The move to put controls on the screen must surely mean manufacturers hope voice activation will be their 'fix' for the problem customers have created. They do listen to customers, which says it all.
Hate all the technology and gadgetry in modern cars. Over complex and impossible for ordinary home mechanics to fix. Peak automotive, for me anyway, was about 20 odd years ago. Back when you could change a spark plug or replace a bulb without having to dismantle half the car and needing specialised tools. Nice review all the same though Matt.
Review very well presented, by far the best utube review I have seen, all the features covered and demonstrated with simplicity perfect for anyone taking delivery of an A3 Sline, it will cut the time reading the handbook.
The styling is just to much in my opinion. So busy with all the lines and creases and to much going on with the screens. Just to distracting. But it's a nice car for people who like all the new tech. I own 2 Audi's and worked on them for 20 years but I would never buy an Audi after '04/'05. Bad quality and the brand image after those years has been awful with all the cocks driving them now. I enjoyed the video Matt, very thorough review!
Great review sir! It would be great if you could get your hands on the Mazda3 hatchback with the Skyactiv-X engine mated to a manual, to see how it compares wit this A3 you had. Keep up the great work!
I can help there as I test drove a 35 TFSI A3 and the SkyActive X in a CX30 (albeit both mated to auto boxes). I found the Audi much better to drive as it has more torque at low revs. The SkyActive needed to be revved higher for decent acceleration. That’s a big reason for me choosing the A3 over the Mazda. (That and the fact that the S-tronic gearbox in the A3 is silky smooth and in a different league to the conventional auto in the Mazda.)
Funky interior, but by far too many gadgets. A car I'd like to drive, but probably not to own long term! 😂 Nice seeing you in my neck of the woods, Mr Furious! Couldn't help noticing Reculver Drive car park on the first part of the video 😁😁
This comment section is really filled with boring and imaginationless people. I definately prefer old stuff but this is a very nice thing for a new car, and it comes with a manual(!) Should I mention I don't really like VAG? I still manage to like this a lot
DSG vs manual performance is night and day feels way bigger than its 1500cc capacity... I drove the bmw 1.5 unit earlier this year for a few weeks this is much faster in day to day driving
Far too garish and blingy for me . That dashboard would give me a headache. Can’t touch a mobile phone on the move obviously, so why do they fill modern cars with screens, touch or otherwise, to gawp at while driving? Audi’s used to have an elegance to them , Mk1 A4 , ‘82 100 etc , can’t see this looking as good in years to come .
I have to complement Audi for introducing a feature on this car which will help other road users -'lane keep assist', meaning that indicators are no longer redundant. Now if BMW would do the same, we'd all experience happier and safer motoring.
Theres certainly a lot going on with the interior. I like what they are doing though, a bit different, bland it certainly isn't. Although Piano black is a particular bugbear of mine, it's a nightmare to keep clean! Great tea-shelfery going on there though!
Probably an excellent machine but it's about as interesting and as sexy as a washing machine to us lovers of classic cars. I give it four zero's out of ten. ;)
Ok i will admit to a bias. As the owner of a previous generation (type 8V) S3, the interior of this new model does not look as special. The infotainment screen looks to low, below normal line of sight when driving. The type 8V has a screen which motored into view when the car was started and was slightly higher than the instrument cluster. The control buttons and dials have a nice 'haptic' feel. The eyeball air vents had volume controls which are controlled by aluminium outer rings, again nice haptically. And the facia and door inserts are genuine aluminium. My example also has dynamic cruise which works down to 20mph, useful in town or city traffic, it's a S tronic. Full park assist, B & O sound, and a panoramic glass roof. Oh and it came with a spacesaver spare wheel. The new model seems lacking in ahem sensory pleasure. The new model seems to be a victim of cost cutting disguised with shiny 'piano' black plastics. And no i don't feel tempted to change.
I have a pre face lift 2016 8V RS3, with every factory option except carbon pack and ceramic brakes, i bought it when i could have got a FL version, but I don’t like the digital dashes or aluminium engine blocks, hey were tinkering with things to lighten the front end, when all they needed to do was change the rear anti roll bar As with most versions of car, the original usually remains the best and purest version, like many of the Quattro cars before it, the RS cars will become iconic and sought after for many many years
The adaptive cruise on this latest A3, when paired with the S-tronic gearbox, works down to 0mph and will automatically stop and start in stop-go traffic. The control buttons do have a nice haptic feel, as do the air vents and the rest of the switch gear. And you can spec a space-saver spare wheel as a relatively low cost option.
Great review. Really good but how much of this tech overload is going to still be working in 8 years after condensation/vibration/age, takes it toll. Will this car keep beyond 12 years, when all the screens start to fade, when all the software is no longer supported and when the intricate electronics, just fail. One by one...
An Audi owner should repair components with OEM parts without regard to cost, that's what the engineers would have wanted. :) [VAGCOM equipment is usually required for programming replacement modules.]
The interior looks boring and cheap compared to the previous generation. Touch screens seem to be a cheaper alternative to proper buttons and switches. And virtual instruments are no substitute for the real thing.
Virtual instruments are miles better than the real thing (which is why you won’t find many real dials in modern aircraft cockpits). In this car, the dials can be shrunk to make room for the satnav map. Virtual dials can also show additional info like the speed limit and cruise control set points directly on the speedo dial.
I'm normally one to say Audi's are boring and the reason Audi drivers always overtake or tailgate you is that they either want to look at something more interesting than what they're sat in or they are speeding to reduce the amount of time they have to drive such a boring machine. However, this A3 is actually really well styled and quite nice inside. All be it, the all-black interior doesn't really give it justice. It's just a shame that you can't change the majority of people who buy them with their bad driving habits and aggressive nature on the roads.
And when you try to use these controls on the move you drive into the back of the vehicle in front. This is a car for geeks and not for getting from A to B. To me it's an awful interior. Wait until it goes wrong and you'll be b......d Obviously it will drive fantastically.. I recently borrowed a car a little like this and I was confused. I touched something accidentally and no way could I get back to what I wanted!
Wonderful feature as an Audi owner that has this option thankfully added to my secondhand one I can now never be guilty of dazzling oncoming drivers. Its good how far the range is on it too. Had the turning xenons on my old golf gtd served no purpose at all. I would take the smart ones all day long. Also have the sweeping indicators which makes us Audi drivers want to use the indicator as the sweep is still a novelty (ish) appeared on vag cars around 2017.
The car you drove didn’t have the adaptive cruise control that you mentioned it having (staying the same distance from the car ahead) If it has the flat bottom wheel which that one did it only has cruise control. For ACC it has the more boring round wheel. Massive oversight by Audi really.
I like the look of the new A3. But all is not what it seems.....Its easy to be mistaken thinking this is a new model, however many of the components like all the switch gear for example, are the same as found in nearly every other VAG of the last 20 years. Its also the same car underneath too. The Golf and A3 haven't altered in years......if this was a Rover or other British car, the critics would say its a dated design and point out that its not been updated in years. I think VAG are the masters of facelifts.
You nailed the styling in one word, Matt: bulky. It certainly is. That gaping maw of a grill does it no favours, either. It comes across, like so many new designs, rather as if the design inspiration were a Panzer tank. Trouble is that the materials are fragile. The end result is a clunky design that is not going to age well at all nor will it stand up well to the rigours of the local car park.
Yes the grille may be a little bulky but it does fit into the design as a whole, but have you actually seen the grille on the front of the new BMWs? Looks like they saw a 1969 Pontiac Trans Am and simply stole the nose off it, that was never going to look right was it?
Is this near Herne Bay Whitstable turn offs by any chance? I know that red brick building to the right of the tunnel. The cream thatched cottage also looked like one that leads down to Reculver castle and also later on the old A2 into Faversham the sittingbourne sidebthe little village in between the two. I know most are usually filmed around Wateringbury Bluebell Hil and Larkfield usually.
Not into all the tech that is on modern cars these days. The dash looks futuristic but its a bit weird looking in places. Those air vents at either side of the steering wheel are hideous when looking at them from the drivers side door.
We are all waiting for the rover convertible you’re technical videos are great you make things easy to understand and interesting and I have really got in too the rover project I get notifications and excitedly check but no rover please show the rover otherwise you’re doing great stuff and I love the channel it’s as good as wheeler dealers From kris

Good review of this car, which honestly doesn't do much for me personally. Too clinical an too thought out. And I hate the dark grey standard colour that every new car interior seems to have 😭 But I can understand the appeal if you are a "hot shot" estate agent or sales man 😂😉 The nose heavy Audis where the models with the longitudinal mounted engines, this one isn't it's basically a Golf 8. It's good to have Modern Monday though to keep us aware how nice our beloved oldtimers and youngtimer cars are 😀

Good cars, well screwed together but I can't help but feel there is some truth in this th-cam.com/video/FD6X-HpYjhY/w-d-xo.html If I'm getting tailgated it seems 9 times out of ten it's an Audi. It puts me off the brand tbh.
For me the idiots who cut me off are 9/10 in an Audi, tailgaters are 9/10 times Mercedes-Benz drivers and brake checkers for no reason are 9/10 times in a BMW. The trifecta of awful drivers.
@@GlamStacheessnostalgialounge ...yes, agreed. They seem to be driven by brainless yobs. Cars of choice of the criminal fraternity. Whenever there is a shooting or hit and run or some other criminal activity, it is always a Audi. It's true.
Your argument for autos vs manuals continues - it was mentioned at least four times in the video! Let's face it, this is probably the last generation of A3 to offer a manual box. But with the price bracket this car sits in and the type of people that drive these, a manual is really only going to be selected by a die-hard enthusiast. UK drivers are beginning to prefer automatic gearboxes and the death of the manual is shortly upon us.
Remember Tonka cars? You have to wonder how much more deep-grilled and aggressive Audi can make their cars before they think of something refreshing and new. Those acres of toy like honeycomb plastic grills look redundant and gimmicky to me.
It's a grey car in all senses. It seems claustrophobic, specially, in the back seats. If this car could be compared to a music system, it would be a 90s low cost flashy stereo system. In comparison, the first series A3 Sportback (FSI engines), would be a refined and reliable Hi-fi system from the 70s. Somethings don't get better...
Sorry, I hate the front end, hideous. I do not like this styling at all. Would sooner have a classic Audi. And just think, when this breaks it will be a nightmare to repair.
An awful lot fiddly fadget-gadgets to fail quickly, wonder how many years it’ll last 🤔 I like Audi but I don’t like how most of them are driven... Naaah
Hooray for buttons! Geez I hate the menu, menu, menu, menu crap. I want to drive a car, not play video games. Piffle on piano black while we're at it, and really reaching out there bring back the executive class sedan with a stick - I still remember my twin turbo 2.7 A6 6spd fondly. Finally, completely betraying my anti-modernist leanings, where are the damn cd players?
Worst car I’ve ever owned. Tech doesn’t work. Constant warnings on the virtual cockpit. MMI screen flickering as you drive too. Audi can’t fix it. Car now rejected and being sent back. I wouldn’t recommend.
From what I read on the car forums the early cars had electrical / software problems. The later cars seem to be better, though there are still some software bugs to be ironed out. The golden rule nowadays seems to be not to buy a new model in the first year.
Oh dear, another car I've bought for the garage in my brain!
You guys are lucky you can still get manual gearboxes in cars like this. In Australia manual is increasingly rare sadly.

Yes the grille may be a little bulky but it does fit into the design as a whole, but have you actually seen the grille on the front of the new BMWs? Looks like they saw a 1969 Pontiac Trans Am and simply stole the nose off it, that was never going to look right was it?
It just looks too plastic, not the type of material regarded as premium.
I know most are usually filmed around Wateringbury Bluebell Hil and Larkfield usually.
yes, down that way
Lunchtime viewing sorted.
Door pockets not carpeted?
Cars these days are just designed to be disposed of when they go wrong with the amount of tech they have and only designed to last 3 years.
Like I've heard before. You should never buy an Audi. You should lease one so you can give it back when it starts to go wrong.
Did you travel to Derbyshire? BBC Radio Derby.😁
Lovely motor
Are those alloys standard with the s line?
Well done Audi Indeed
The dials/display is far too busy. Rest is nice enough.
Great cars great quality but they all look the same !!!!its time for a new look ..... A bit like porsches they all look the same!!!! Great content matt👍👍👍STAY SAFE
Good review of this car, which honestly doesn't do much for me personally. Too clinical an too thought out. And I hate the dark grey standard colour that every new car interior seems to have 😭
But I can understand the appeal if you are a "hot shot" estate agent or sales man 😂😉
The nose heavy Audis where the models with the longitudinal mounted engines, this one isn't it's basically a Golf 8.
It's good to have Modern Monday though to keep us aware how nice our beloved oldtimers and youngtimer cars are 😀
My VW Passat 1.8T Sport 99T&Passat 1.9TDI 130bhp SE 2003 were based on Audi's A4& had Longitudinal Engine's. Great Car's.
Brill video just like my 2018 rs4 avant love my rs4 not the best Daily looking at getting a daily any good Recommendations for a daily driver but no way getting rid off the rs4 keep up the good work i have got a vauxhall omega estate 3.0 v6 cdti elite thats going up for sale
You know , if my money is enough, I must be buy this car 😅😂👻🤓👍🤩I love Audi A3 2.0T so so much!😘😘😍😍🥰🥰
Good cars, well screwed together but I can't help but feel there is some truth in this th-cam.com/video/FD6X-HpYjhY/w-d-xo.html If I'm getting tailgated it seems 9 times out of ten it's an Audi. It puts me off the brand tbh.
For me the idiots who cut me off are 9/10 in an Audi, tailgaters are 9/10 times Mercedes-Benz drivers and brake checkers for no reason are 9/10 times in a BMW. The trifecta of awful drivers.
Can confirm.
@@GlamStacheessnostalgialounge ...yes, agreed. They seem to be driven by brainless yobs. Cars of choice of the criminal fraternity. Whenever there is a shooting or hit and run or some other criminal activity, it is always a Audi. It's true.
I noticed that English always confuse stability control with traction control. Not sure what is that all about.
I'm sure I see you with a rover Sdi. Was I seeing things
There was the Police one
Can you do a review of the Range Rover Velar
If they'll lend me one!
I like it, but as a dinosaur too much tech for me to get used to 😂 but a really nice looking car
No reflection on you Matt, love your content, but how dull is that...
nice car but cant stand the two vents on either side of the steering wheel, looks like they just been slapped on, very out of place
A real beauty , love that interior. A bit too expensive for me I reckon.
Modern autos are easier to drive, faster and more economic than manuals. The final nail in the coffin for manuals will be electric cars.
The glove box seems not to close perfectly... Hmmm Audi...
Might be the angle viewed from.

Remember Tonka cars? You have to wonder how much more deep-grilled and aggressive Audi can make their cars before they think of something refreshing and new. Those acres of toy like honeycomb plastic grills look redundant and gimmicky to me.
I'm getting budget Lamborghini Urus vibes...it's all a bit black , not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing , Darth Vader doesn't smile much.
Save yourself 6 grand and buy the Octavia instead
Is it just me or does the front grill look like the same shape as a coffin 😂 ⚰️, but wider. I like the design, but it's just what I've noticed!!
Sorry, I hate the front end, hideous. I do not like this styling at all.
Would sooner have a classic Audi.
And just think, when this breaks it will be a nightmare to repair.
The styling is so fussy, both internally and externally
Look at some 90's interiors there's some real fuss out there too
@@piuthemagicman Wouldn't disagree but this is particularly messy
An awful lot fiddly fadget-gadgets to fail quickly, wonder how many years it’ll last 🤔 I like Audi but I don’t like how most of them are driven... Naaah
Hooray for buttons! Geez I hate the menu, menu, menu, menu crap. I want to drive a car, not play video games. Piffle on piano black while we're at it, and really reaching out there bring back the executive class sedan with a stick - I still remember my twin turbo 2.7 A6 6spd fondly. Finally, completely betraying my anti-modernist leanings, where are the damn cd players?
Crikey, always post ur vid at the crack of dawn...
I'm sure you can schedule uploads..

Must be 5pm somewhere in the world ,when Matt uploaded🤣👍
How ugly modern cars are. To much going on inside.
Nice I can't afford, one wonder if all the boy racers will buy these when they drop in price 🤔 🤓 42 the answer to everything 🤔 hitchhikers 🤓😷

you mentioned indicators are you sure? an audi with indicators ,your having a laugh
Bogshole lane! :)

4th like
Love you and your channel but I don't like these ugly these new Audi's. Bit too modern for my taste and they're mainly driven by assholes
Boring. Edit: The car, not the channel
