Psycho girlfriend, texas chainsaw massacre, Shambling zombies, SAW, monster flick and possessed child. They pretty much have all the classic horror tropes in one game.
So I had this thought of a way to combine the whole outlast gameplay where you run and hide from the monsters along with the resident evil thing here you can actually fight. Make it so combat is discourage. And I don’t mean like make ammo scarce or the enemies are bullet sponges. But in where the player character can barely fight. Where he’s the average Joe who has never fired a gun is his life so when you get the gun your aim is shaky so you can barley aim. You don’t know how to dampen the recoils so depending on what weapon you have your arms are their flung back or you get thrown on your ass. And the reloads times are long since you character barley knows how to reload. So combat is an option but you can barley shoot since the protagonist doesn’t know how to use a gun. You could have some kinda progression where their A:the more you sue the gun the more the character learns and adapts. Or B: you can find instruction booklet on how to reload more effectively and proper stances. You don’t get to a point where it’s becomes and shoot fest but you can at least defend yourself just enough so you don’t get devoured.
I'm surprised he liked it at all. I hated it, there was almost no suspense, the best horror they had was jump scares, and the insane survivability of the main character made the game trivial. Not to mention everything hinged on a plot thread that made no sense (why do I care about my wife who abandoned me? Why would I choose her the murderer over the woman who has been helping me?) and also had no agency for the player. The major choice in the plot is a non choice, the game ends just about the same either way
Heretek To me Zoe withheld. vital info and the other would make that take priority. Though there still was jack shit that made that choice relevant. It was literally the final nail in the coffin for me and the game, which had numerous issues throughout it. I honestly felt like my 60 bucks was wasted. The dlc released a week afterwards is like a shit covered knife being twisted in my back.
Heretek Also yeah: I was expecting more than just atmosphere but they did nothing to capitalize on it. All those jumpscares were crap and predictable, the writing trivial, and even if I played this on Madhouse it wouldn't be better. Enemies just get tankier, faster, one hit kill you, and chase you. When I know everything is there, it gets ruined. Enemies like the Bakers can rarely be used in such small settings effectively.
Heretek 1. Because she went missing. She did not abandon you 2. Because she is your wife and did all those things while under mind control 3. It does not end the same way, though I get what your are saying. Mia either dies and all your effort have been for naught or you save her so you can go home and plow her while the dog stands in the corner and watches you.
Having finally gotten around to playing this game, I agree they mostly do a good job signaling when you're supposed to stop running and fight the family members. The exception was the final time you fight Marguerite: it took me a few minutes of running around to realize there was nowhere to go and I had to fight her.
"Bringing back previous resident evil characters no one cares about" Bruh the best thing about resident evil (in my opinion) was that it stayed with familiar charters that you know and love. Resident Evil for the very beginning has also been cheesy campy horror. It was scary at times but funny at others with the bad acting and dialogue. All together I find the series very charming as long as you don't take it too seriously. I hated that 7 had nothing to do with the original characters.
Sigh... RE Classic Fans: "Meh, RE4 was okay, but was really the beginning of the end. Bring back Code:Veronica or RE Remake!" Literally everyone else: "RE4..." *fap fap fap fap fap*
I've heard a LOT of dissent about the gameplay, and the POINT of the story, as Yahtzee even noted, is that they realized their lines are cheesy and overdone, so they played into it by giving the game an action movie plot. Is it true 5 gives you an assistant who picks up every mine you lay down because she thinks she's helping?
2:08 Oooh, that's rare. A political/cultural joke that is actual true. Cultural diversity does pose a problem. Remember the greatest empire ever, that then suddenly imploded forever? Yes, Rome. An empire that fucked-up it's own currency by taking the "precious" out of the metal. But even though economic collapses are quite bad, that alone doesn't explain how an empire (or rather it's people) just refuse to continue onwards. That is because it wasn't a homogenic group of people with the same values. Due to its financial fuckery, the empire handed out citizenship en masse (because the more citizens there are, the more taxes can be collected) to people who didn't have the same values, morales and political philosophies. Buuut that's history and there is no way it would repeat itself with a modern empire like... the European Union and it's mass immigration which further "culturally enriches" an incredibly diverse folk...
I beg to differ. The strength of Rome came from its variety, and it borrowed many things from the countries it conquered. We can see this attitude since the early stages of its life, when it confronted Etruscan Samnites Latins ect... And about the end, it surely came even faster due to the anti-barbaric movements: there were plenty of tribes ready to help the Empire against the worst pillagers, just to assure themselves security, but people didn't understand how useful they could have been. The story of general Stilicho always gets me. He was the best tactician the Western Roman Empire had at the time and defended his country in many occasions, but he was also half-vandal. The emperor was persuaded to execute him, as well as many barbarian children and women made prisoners. Without his protection Rome was helpless and the Goths guided by Alaric ransacked it in 410.
Then pray tell me, how did the Roman Empire span three continents? It didn't conquer them because of its Italian soldiers, Italian tactics, and Italian generals were the best-although many of them were great. It was a Roman ideal that allowed Rome's influence to remain to this day: diversity. For example, it compensated for its legions' weaknesses (lack of cavalry) by hiring foreign soldiers as auxiliaries or mercenaries-often in reward for citizenship. Rome brought in ideas, laws, and inventions from Egypt, Greece, and Persia (modern-day Iran). As a result, the influence of Roman ideas and inventions are recognizable even today. If you want a group with homogeneous values, you better get ready to do a Stalin and shoot a couple of million people regardless of origin. Even during its republican days, Rome was seriously divided on many issues like plantations, concentration of power, and military strategy. The disagreement was in part due to how certain values like that of respecting human life (i.e. wealthy landowners not caring about plebeians) were not shared. Rome's fall was due to many more reasons than "a horde of immigrants." One such reason is an unwillingness to compromise with people with different opinions. Serious disagreements will always arise in any group, regardless of its members origins, and simply refusing to accept outside members will only cause stagnation and defeat.
beestrider I wouldn't judge an empire's greatness by its size alone (insert dick joke here), there are other things to take into account. if you have the biggest empire ever but it only lasts 20 years, and the other guy's smaller empire lasts a thousand, than its pretty hard to say yours was out right better.

did you do a second run-through on madhouse? because they do switch things around and the molded are more terrifying when they shuffle at you with unatural speed, I was actually more scared the second time around. though the amount of damage they do is ridiculous.
A half decent story? I have seen fanfiction less boring and contrived as this. My high school creative writing class had better writing done it it. Horror? Yeah, if cheap ass and predictable jumpscares count as horror now a days. The atmosphere was hands down the best part of this but nothing capitalized on it. I am easily the most easy to scare people on the planet and this game got me a total of...1 time maybe? Maybe 2? Was not well done in my opinion so it is subjective like everything else. *dives into hateproof bunker*
Starcraftgamer97 I guess I'm one of the few that considers being chased by a monster (the only jump scare there was blasting through a wall) to be horror
I loved the game, but the most boring part of it is in the third act on the ship. That was a slog. Slowed down the pacing immensely. It was almost as if Capcom had everything planned out beforehand very well and said, "well, how do we end this thing?"
Try playing it on Madhouse mode. The Baker's run and follows you where ever you go, except the save areas. All the areas that give extra ammo give little to no ammo. The creatures are harder to kill and kill you quicker. Plus you can be killed while doing a time stopped puzzle. You also have limited saves like in Residents evil one. You will be blocking a lot more too.

“Ummm *ackshually* Jack Baker is wielding a Thatcher, they’re not even remotely the same thing.”
Oh lord I felt unclean channeling that energy.
The last boss is easy? I can't wait for Pat to screw that up.
he will still talk like he knows what he's doing and will still be wrong
Well the people I watched screwed it up like 8 times because the one controlling was really taking his sweet time to shoot the boss and the comment section was all "wow didn't even know you could die there"
"Don't SHTCREW it up!"
well the old man he kicked his ass ,and went back for some more and died .the final try for last old man part he one shot him .
he used steriods and the old lady stomp his ass out . the final form of the old lady i think it was two trys .
so there are only three bosses in this resident evil game . not counting the other verison of the old man and old lady and mia.
.-.
Best friends PLay?
100 % accurate review of the game. I am a long time RE fan, and agree that 4 was the best and still replay it today. 7 Was very good, but replayability is not there at all. Well done Yahtzee.
At least SOMEBODY in the GOP followed through on their chants of "lock her up"
But it turns out they got the wrong 'her'.

Yahtzee: "They'll probably fuck it up one of two ways: bringing back old characters..."
Capcom: *looks up from their Resi Evil 3 remake* "You say something?"
Remake 2 was a good game, remake 3, well.... Is that even considered close to survival horror anymore?
Well they did bring back old characters in the dlc...
@@demonintellect9834 Not to mention the two entire ass remakes that came out after this

I've payed RE since RE1 came out on PS1. This is the first time in a long time that I actually felt tense playing a RE game. I had to really think about when to fight and when to run. great game!!
It was like the lovechild of silent hill 2 + texas chainsaw massacre + Last of us.
With a sprinkle of Evil Dead.
Your videos are always extraordinarily spot on.
All your reviews are usually great but this one is probably your best one in a while. The jokes were really well crafted, i laughed non stop the whole review
Hello, just a friendly reminder that the shows name, 'Zero Punctuation', is a reference to how fast Yahtzee talks.
Actually, the only permanent damage to Ethan was that boot to the face.
The final fight with the father was rendered unchallenging seeing how I conveniently switched out the flamer for the grenade launcher I basically defeated him in seconds because of it
Glad to hear even Yahtzee things the game was worthwhile!
He has lots of games he likes. He's a soulsborne fan, he's a fan of Silent Hill 2, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, etc., he just likes putting games through the wringer because he says 'I try to be as negative as fuck about a game because I want to have game developers have high standards for themselves.'
I love how positive this review was. Goes to show how good the game is.
Considering a guy named Redfield shows up by the end of the game, I think we all know how they're going to fuck it up again.
Side note- I think this Robert Hadenfield ad is the ONLY TH-cam ad I’ve watched from start to finish every time it’s on
This is what british people think rural america has, and it's what rural america wishes it had
"Farmer Shovel fuck", Yeah that's about accurate. Still scary as hell though.
I really wish that Capcom un-fucks themselves and make another Resident Evil 4. I don't mean remake it, though that would make me cream my pants, I mean take what made Resident evil 4 great and expand on it in a new game.
Lol they did screw the series up by bringing Chris back... lol
Yahtzee has the incredible super power to come up with just the most WTF amazing similes and metaphors. "I would have been pleasantly surprised by a dead prawn in a sock"... beautiful.
How to erase any sort of horror from any game:
Have Yahtzee butcher it.
2:10 THANK YOU, to me being able to fight back but finding out its completely useless to do so by conventional means is more scarier then not being able to fight at all.
"Skinny lady who shits wasps" I'm sorry, *what?*
The way you described your usage of the trigger bombs at the end is literally how I handled the last half of the game plant bomb wait for them to approach and boom
You aren't going to believe who is awesome!!!

dead meme but managed to get revived just like re series

God forbid an action game set in Africa had a predominant amount of black enemies.
PopulateTheMoon should've done what MGSV did then and just give everyone machine guns and walker mechs. boom, no more racism allegations.
Captain Doomsday they're Japanese creators, so apparently yeah
Eh hum. "Sheva"
Maybe if they didn't try to kill you with spears
It wasn't the black enemies really. It was the fact that the swamp levels had literally spearchucking tribals and firebreathing shamans, which would be fine on their own but combined with the "realistic" depiction of a poor African township in the beginning comes off as really racist.
I described this game to my dad as the thing meets deliverance
just pointing its, its parasitoid wasps not parasitic wasps, theres a difference
What's the difference?
AlsikePike loads of parasites can live on or in 1 host but usually only parasitoid can, parasitoids almost always kill their host while parasites most often dont
A dead prawn in a sock is my favourite game so far this year
At least it didn't have any quick time events.
Dylan Breheny Or a season pass!
well they did bring back Chris for village
I can't wait to see what he's going to punch this time
Psycho girlfriend, texas chainsaw massacre, Shambling zombies, SAW, monster flick and possessed child. They pretty much have all the classic horror tropes in one game.
Making fun of both sides of the political aisle.
*Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.*
She did not abandon you
2. Because she is your wife and did all those things while under mind control
3. It does not end the same way, though I get what your are saying. Mia either dies and all your effort have been for naught or you save her so you can go home and plow her while the dog stands in the corner and watches you.
Madhouse mode Jack is "evade the scary hillbilly" on steroids. He follows you everywhere and patrols everywhere.
Is Nioh also getting reviewed?
It's dark souls in Japan, of course he's going to review it
Gaiamatt No it is Japan's Dark Souls in Japan! I mean Japan-Japan, you understand!
Silius Black so it's like ninja gaiden
I hated that 7 had nothing to do with the original characters.
amarantine1323 who cares, the old characters sucked anyways
No homo man, but I seriously fucking love your reviews and your videos. You're one of only two people I actually respect as a reviewer.
Sigh...
RE Classic Fans: "Meh, RE4 was okay, but was really the beginning of the end. Bring back Code:Veronica or RE Remake!"
Literally everyone else: "RE4..." *fap fap fap fap fap*
pls tell me you are joking? They did it back in 2012 or so on PS3 AND 360...
There are two types of people: Those who've played RE4, and assholes.
A wonderful review as always! :))
That's it folks, see you next week !
dragonstormer115 Yakuza 0
Serious disagreements will always arise in any group, regardless of its members origins, and simply refusing to accept outside members will only cause stagnation and defeat.
rome wasn't even the greatest empire lol. britain and the mongols were larger. your entire comment is just bad.
beestrider I wouldn't judge an empire's greatness by its size alone (insert dick joke here), there are other things to take into account. if you have the biggest empire ever but it only lasts 20 years, and the other guy's smaller empire lasts a thousand, than its pretty hard to say yours was out right better.
SashaSexyfur umm no rome fell because they put lead in the water pipes and went through emperors like Bill Clinton with under age sex slaves
RE5 wasn't racist at all though.
after watching hours of Yatzee's game reviews I have to speed up every other video on the internet. I love it.
Well well well, they did fuck it up with Village so they better rereboot the whole thing with the next one 😛
Not fucked up
Nah Village is fun, Yahtzee just is picky over particular elements he likes about RE and the previous characters are not among his favourites.
finish work, put youtube on and this is in my newsfeed been waiting for this review for awhile nice one yahtzee well worth the wait

Wow, this one was exceptionally good! Great job!
Never really liked re7
I got passed the Garage and I never played it after that
To me it wasn't a resident evil game
It was a Outlast game with a Resident Evil slapped on the front of it
You call RE7 can outlast game yet the only thing it has in common with outlast is the first person perspective. Plus you have no right to even criticize the game if you haven't even finished it yet.
did you do a second run-through on madhouse? because they do switch things around and the molded are more terrifying when they shuffle at you with unatural speed, I was actually more scared the second time around. though the amount of damage they do is ridiculous.
In less you're Edgar Allen Poe then please take a seat.
Starcraftgamer97 I guess I'm one of the few that considers being chased by a monster (the only jump scare there was blasting through a wall) to be horror
Unpopular opinion: Jumpscares are as legitimate a horror technique as anything else.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR TOO LONG, Time to watch.
MAGA
An impeachment would do that right away.
The real resident evil is the friends we made in the journey along the way.
I loved the game, but the most boring part of it is in the third act on the ship. That was a slog. Slowed down the pacing immensely. It was almost as if Capcom had everything planned out beforehand very well and said, "well, how do we end this thing?"
I absolutely love this man!!!! I just came across his videos and I'm in love!
I'd like to think that RE7 is like a synthesis of various horror film subgenres.
Mia/Jack Baker: Slasher Film
Marguerite: Supernatural Horror Witch Film
Lucas: Saw-inspired Psychological Horror
VHS Tapes: Found-footage Horror
Eveline: Supernatural Horror a la The Ring
Jack (2nd encounter)/Eveline (final form)/The Molded: Creature/Monster Horror
Richard Pearsey knows his shit.
I think everything has a base somewhere, I think they did a god job bringing these elements together.
1:28 - Thank you.

Gotta be bipartisan
quality video lad, been waiting on this one
the person that wrote the story for Resident Evil 7 was the same person that wrote the story for fear 1 and spec Ops the Line
Don't worry, they didn't bring in racism. They just brought in old characters no one cares about in the next one.
I wish there were more trap bombs, they were my favourite type of weapon and I would have definitely needed some more for those last 2 fat molded.
Oh man I can't wait for the RE8 review...
