    Mercedes is really adept at doing sexy interiors nowadays. The A-class (and B, CLA, GLA), S-Class and now C-class all have 9,9/10 interiors. Only thing I don't like is the screen style on these non-S models, because it looks like an iPad. Oh well, I can live with it.

      João Soares I was speaking to a German friend of mine, and the Germans as you can imagine, like German products, as it suits them. A lot of them are less than impressed with the new BMW;s and especially Mercs as they think they look nearly oriental, like Korean or something. Audi's and VW's are Teutonic. They are designed to do a job practically, then they are styled, not the other way round, which is why people buy them. Case in point, a lot of cars have really small rear windows because they try and give a bloody hatchback like a KIA ce'ed a coupe like body, sweeping up the window line at the back, making it like a port hole. They makes it claustrophobic and because of the shape of it, makes it noisier than it should at speed with the window down. Auids are very agronomical. notice how all the button and switches light up on Auids. They have been doing that for some 30 odd years.

    This car is great. It is ultra confortable, the engine is noisy but just from the outside, you don't hear it inside the car. The place in the back is ok. Obviously get the AMG edition because is just gorgeous looking much better then the one in the video. The internal design is something you won't find in any other car of this class, it is just amazing. The screen makes the cabin more dynamic so I like it. The only problem is the automatic transmission. It is not a complete turnoff but the 8 speed BMW is much better. Overall this car is beautiful inside and outside. The bimmer and the A4 just look old compared to this Merc.

    I have C250 petrol AMG-Line. The car is excellent, engine is punchy, even exhaust sound is sporty. It cracks and bangs after gear shifts above 4000 rpm. The car is stiff, but comfort is very good, I don't complain. Easy to drive. I have confidence in the car and performance. Folks I'm driving say that acceleration feels magnificent. Burmester sounds great, take it. Transmission lever is just fine to me and infotainment screen feels OK. I don't know why people don't like it. It works fast and you get used to it quickly. Reverse camera can be useful if you are not skillful driver, rear of the car is invisible. Fuel consumption in the city is somewhere between 10 to 15 liters, depending on your driving style and accelerator use. Use cruise control often, it reduces consumption. I think mixed average consumption can be between 8 to 9 liters with sporty driving. I made the right choice buying this car.

If it had 200 more horsepower and sporty suspension, it would have been perfect. Still an amazing car! But I hate the new infotainment displays new Mercedes' have.

    having driven both of these cars (2015 models) I can give you a more in-depth, non-biased opinion than mat watson.
    Power:
    The merc c220 cdi is more punchier than the bmw 320d, accelerates a lot faster. The 320d feels sort of sluggish upon acceleration, could do with extra turbo coupled to the diesel engine. c220 is about 7.5sec to 60mph, while the
    320d is closer to 9 sec.
    Handling:
    This is where things reverse.
    While having more acceleration, the mercedes is woeful around the turns. You'll think you're in toyota landcruiser the way the merc takes corners (or even gentle bends). Its really bad, and even for a speed freak like me, a bit scary, the side to side yaw present in the c-class. You might not observe it from the outside, but trust me try to accelerate round a turn and you'll feel it.
    The bmw 320d on the other hand, kept really balanced and flat round the turns, and gave you a lot of confidence to turn it hard into corners.
    There is a massive gulf in handling between these two cars. Really disappointed with the c-class there.
    Comfort:
    Now this is a mixed one.
    The C-class leather seats, while no better than that of a skoda octavia, are miles better than that of a bmw. It shocks me how bmw can make such a nice handling car, then spoil it with rubbish uncomfortable, unsupportive seats.
    I travelled up and down the M4 in both cars, and the mercedes seats, though not that great (could be alot softer), was far more bearable on my 150mile commute than the bmw leather seats, which felt like wood covered with a thin layer of leather.
    Plush soft, well padded seats on the bmw and it would have been a car worth every penny.
    Both cars however, failed miserably on the door arm rest support. When i drive long distances, my elbow rests on the door arm rest for hours. None of these cars provided good soft padding for the arm rest, and in both my journies my right elbow felt like i've been crawling on it. Not good, for a £30k car.
    While the merc was very bouncy around corners, even in sport+ mode, when it came to the speed bumps, i expected it to glide over - instead it just bobbed and crashed over it, making for very uncomfortable travel over speed bumps. mini s-class my backfoot!
    The bmw while stiffer around the bends (which is good) soaked up the bumps a lot better than the c-class, no rolling forwards and backwards.
    Noise: Both of these cars could do with A LOT MORE sound insulation. A skoda octavia is quiter than both of these cars on the motorway. I know because i've driven a skoda octavia 1.6tdi on the same M4). BMW though not great, actually had better sound insulation than the merc c220.
    The problem with the merc c220, was not so much the engine noise, which was too audible for my liking, but there was CONSTANT ROAD NOISE COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE CABIN, as though the rear doors / boot was ajar. It was odd. Even with the windows fuly shut, it was still irrittating, and I kept trying to wind up the already closed windows, trying to get rid of the road/wind noise coming from the rear of the cabin. This is a £30k car for goodness sake, why does it have so many annoying faults. Not mentioning the infotainment system, which means you cant change music tracks while your'reusing the sat-nav - how rubbish is that.
    I have no bias towards either car, my favourite brand is actually honda.
    but for the money they cost, I was not impressed with either car, most especially the mercedes c220, which gave the impression of the s-class on the outside, but ended up being such a dissapointment.
    Also - I forgot to mention the automatic gears in the mercedes c220. While it changes smoothly whilst on the move, I found so many times that when moving from standstill, the automatic gearbox lags and fails to engage into gear. Traffic light goes green, (start-stop is already disabled) I put my foot on the gas, and the car waits for 2-3 seconds deciding if it wants to move, then all of a sudden, it surges forward. Very annoying, and potentially very dangerous - sort this out mercedes.

      what a great account. it's uncanny how similar your experience with the c class was to mine. handling was pretty atrocious and I can't believe how poorly the soft suspension takes bumps. cars 10 years old handle better. airmatic suspension is an expensive upgrade

      All the Germans are doing this because they are expecting screen sizes to increase in the near future, so it will be an easy (cheap) transition rather than having to rework an entire center stack for every line of vehicles at the same time. The Mercedes "frame" around the actual screen is a good indicator of how large they are expecting the screens to become within the next 2-3 years.

Every morning I'd be reminded that I'd voluntarily bought a car where they couldn't even be bothered to get the most basic ergonomics right! Every day I'd notice it. What do UK Merc owners have to say about it - it surely can't be something that only Mat here notices? Have right hand drive Mercs always been like this?

    FINALLY the new c class review. in my country, c class 2.1lt diesel costs 3.000pounds more than the new e class 2.1lt e class 4 matic. its just insane... so i have to ask, how good is the much more cheaper version of c class 1.6lt gasoline engine?

    • @Str8representing
      @Str8representing 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I drove many mercs where the steering wheel is on the left side and it was offset on all of them, including the latest S class, which is just ridiculous. If you sit nice and straight in the driver's seat, the body becomes really twisted. That alone is a huge downside, especially in a €100k+ car.

    • @admiralfloofz658
      @admiralfloofz658 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Str8representing Yea but the car isnt originally desiged to have the steeringwheel on the wrong side so when you convert it to righthanddrive there isnt enough room for the steeringrack. Its the same thing with BMW, especially on turbo models where theres even less room.

    • @sly715091
      @sly715091 10 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Stop lying. Your body didn't really twisted. That's pure exaggeration. I've drove plenty of E and C and never had any problem. Even after long journeys (5-6 hours driving). Merc generally is a really good cruiser. The steering might be slightly off but you don't actually notice or feel it. I bet you didn't even know about it before Mat started bitching about it in his old vids.

      It's the same on every premium car. The new Jaguar XE also looks very similar to the XF, while BMWs all have almost the same back. I think they do that because people who can only afford the cheaper models can get the feeling that they actually drive a premium car.

      Similar from the sides too. I don't particularly like it. It's like buying the same shirt in S, M, or L. I think in the 1980's and 1990's car models were better differentiated from one another. It's all become a little homogenized and boring these days.

    Finally you did it :) One thing NEVER WITH THE 4-CYL. DIESEL. Such sophisticated car only with petrol engine.
    Burmester Surround Sound System is fantastic and sounds so realistic even when listening good quality mp3's.
    I'm 6'1 and a half :D and in my C200 without panoramic sunroof I had enough space above my head in front as well as in the back. If you are over 6 foot you shouldn't take this car with glass roof however for smaller passengers it really isn't an issue. Great car, superb ride quality and so so quiet indeed. You can check my channel. I recently added some acceleration movies and show how it looks at night.

    • @L4DProductions
      @L4DProductions 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Christian Herbei It's done to preserve space. Notice that alot of manufactures are doing this now, but it's to make the dash less clumsy. If you suddenly have to make space for an 8 inch screen in the dash, you have to make the entire dash larger, and that makes the car feel more cramped. I hate it myself aswell, but now you atleast know why :)
