Great question! I didn't include a modem or access point on the home network example since most ISP's ship an all-in-one layer 3 device that handles the functionality of a modem, access point, firewall, dhcp server, etc.
Most consumers plug in their rented "router" from their ISP and they're good to go, so the home example reflected that.
