Flashlight Review: Noctigon M43 Meteor 6300 lumens! Worlds Smallest & Brightest of 2016?

  • Probably the current champ for the worlds smallest and brightest LED flashlight of 2015 or 2016. It was certainly my favorite and the best flashlight of the year. This light can crank out as much as 8000 lumens depending on which configuration you buy it in. It's shorter than most single 18650 based flashlights and smaller in diameter than a coke can.
    Visit: intl-outdoor.com/noctigon-4186... to check out the light and buy it.
    Or you can buy it in the US at: www.mtnelectronics.com/index.p...
    Recommended Batteries: www.mtnelectronics.com/index.p...
    Also as a correction... I incorrectly said 6600 lumens in the video... it's actually 6300 lumens. A 6600 lumen version is available in the NW S3 3D emitter option... so you can get a 6600 lumen version should you choose!

    Great review, thank you. For those who are security conscious, do keep in mind, if you ever think a "bad guy" is out there, the last thing you want to do is use the light to illuminate YOUR position (e.g. use it on the ground, stand-up to illuminate your space so you are not "standing in the dark"). Put the beam on HIM, not you

      Good point, second option is to remain dark and only illuminate the light when the "bad guy" is detected then "Light'em up" . This will disorientate them especially with the strobe mode, allowing you to flee or fight.

      Depending on what kind of bad guy it is, you might want to blind them by pointing it at their face. 🙂

    Really like all the different third-person camera views and different outdoor settings. Helps give an alternate perspective of the output of the light.

    +Neponset River It's manufactured by Notctigon and Intl-Outdoor. It is the company's first flashlight, but they have been making quality flashlight components for years.

    Amazing light but equally amazing price tag . i dropped lucky a year ago .i got three skyray kings for £5 each off ali-express . ordered first thinking no way would they post it at £5 posted . a week later it arrived .
    so then i ordered two more and next day price got corrected . to my amazement two more arrived in post and all still work perfectly . All these lights are mindblowing compared to twenty years ago .last xmas i sent all my aunts and uncles £2 cree mini lights ,and they all phoned me over the moon to say it was just what they needed .Super reviews by the way .

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sky Ray Kings are a great value for the money. As you can see, I have one too. Of course, I put warm emitters in mine, and switched out the driver too. Thanks a lot! This light is still about the best value for something that puts out this much light.

  • @JViello
    @JViello 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great vid bro! Love your style of speaking, have a similar demeanor myself. Reminds me of radio chatter back in the Marines. The beamshots are very helpful...that N43 is a freaking monster! However, the Acebeam K40M is pretty damned impressive too! I've seen them around for $129 now which is a lot of light for the money. Granted it's a large light, but at least you get something for the girth. Again, great job with the style, multiple angles, beamshots etc.
    I've just been playing with a new Thorfire C8-S...the revised model and I'm still in shock. For a single XML U2, single 18650 light it's smoking hot! Compared to my EDI-T D39 single 26650 dive light that has triple XML- U2s and pulls 4.5 amps it got greater throw along with huge spill that's not as bright as the D39's flood but still plenty hot for spill. Side by side it's hard to say which one is the hands down winner. I'm still thinking something is not right and it's going to burn up in my hand or something. lol

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +JViello I love my K40M, it's just a bit to big to carry for a regular light. Definitely one of the best values for the money out there, I agree. I have yet to try a Thorfire, although the price is right- and looking at that D39, it's pretty good value too. I love my BLF A6 too, because it's a real scorcher as well.
      I've been slowly trying to improve my beamshot section. It's a bit hard to do in the middle of town where I live- I wish I had a bigger back yard, but I don't. Anyway, thanks!

    • @JViello
      @JViello 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +mhanlen1 The K40 is a big light but you certainly get something in return for carrying it. Then again, that EDC TM36 just blows the m43 away...be careful to avoid proms as I hear it will make the meteor cry. LOL ;-) I would never know you live in the middle of town, it seems like you are "out there" pretty good! They again, I live in New England. Here, being in the "city" means I still have acreage, deer in my yard - along with Coyote, Wild Turkey, Red Fox, Fisher Cats etc etc. and I'm 15 minutes from the DT of a 1.3 million metro.
      The Thorfire stuff has been surprisingly decent - especially for the cost. I just picked up the VG10 and it's got some heat out of the box...but as a host it punches way above it's weight. All it really needs to be perfect IMO is a dedome to tighten up the beam a little, some small tweaks to bring up the current draw and a good batt to support it...but that's nit picking, out of the box it's still impressive with a good cell.

  • @AdvancedKnifeBro
    @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    +Dan Taylor Sorry... I guess I should have made it a bit more explicit. The clock you're seeing below is just sped up "time code". So you're seeing: hours, minutes, seconds, and frames. The 2 to which you're referring represents 2 hours. In all my later videos I talk more about the runtimes, and use a digital clock- so it avoids the confusion.

    After using the wicked lasers Torch for a few months, I ordered the ddt40, the PS03, and the meteor after watching your reviews. Thank you for promoting impulse flashlight purchase addiction and i hope you get some kind of swag from these companies? Anyway I finally received them last week, after walking the dog with both the ddt40 and the Noctigon each in their own holster walking through the forest trails like at night with the ability to blind any living creature with a combined 10000 lumens I have to say the Meteor once you get the hang of the one button interface, is superior. If they throw in a charger system like the ddt40 in the next year I will own another.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +sedwards Honestly, the Meteor blows them all out of the water. The PS03 was great, but the Meteor which I reviewed later, is like the PS03 on Steroids. I don't really get swag from them. They usually send you the flashlight for free (not the Meteor), but after I spend 20 hours on a review, it ain't worth it. I get no monetary compensation from the manufacturers at all. I like making videos, and running my own TH-cam channel. I have spent so much on camera gear and lighting, that I am really in the hole! Plus, I wound up buying a Meteor anyway because I had to send the flashlight back after reviewing it. But it was totally worth it.

    So far using this M43 on a nightly basis I noticed a few things.
    #1 The floody beam is one of the nicest I have seen it provides great edge to edge illumination and does not a harsh hotspot, the dispersal of the light is very nice and smooth. This is a great work light etc..
    A lot of lights are all about how far you can go but thats good for one use, this is a much more overall usable light.
    #2 UI-1 is extremely simple click to turn on low or moonlight(last memorized mode or double click to step it up and one click off is so much nicer than the other brands with it sequential order, having to hold down for 1 sec to turn on then clicking to go through modes is confusing and easy to mess up. The M43 way is much more user friendly
    I like the fact that holding down kicks off Turbo quickly but if you hold past 6s it stays on.
    UI-1 is very quick to use and remember, plus you get 5 levels which is more than enough. more expensive lights offer 4 levels and the UI is not as easy and quick as M43 UI-1
    This compact light can run at 740ma (medium) and it stays cool it gets slightly warm after running for a while.
    The beacon indicating power level is great, you always know where the light is if a sudden power outage occurs and you always know the current charge level. It is nice to know the status of charge at a quick glance.
    It is getting lots of use I find it odd that its a very little known product I suspect it does not get any marketing like the other big companies out there selling less for the money :)

      Sean Leventen I have not unfortunately. The Nitecore's have always been a bit out of my price range. The Sky Ray King was my first really bright light, which set me back a little less than $100 after all the mods I did to it. I owned the EA4 and liked it quite a bit, but it had an issue and I exchanged it for a Sunwayman D40A. I have heard good things about the TM26 though... but then again this light is well under $200 and it's brighter than anything I own, by far.

    Now that you have reviewed a number of flashlights I would like to see a review of flashlights in general. Which LED's seem the brightest and in what configurations. Which heads are better for throw deep heads with fewer LED's or shallow heads with more LED's? Things like that rather than reviews of a specific flashlight or brand.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I plan on putting one together for flashlights and headlamps. It'll take a month or two. Lately I've been putting extended beamshot comparisons in the videos to help facilitate the differences in types of lights... But unless you are familiar with specific light then it's hard to tell what light does what. Thanks for the feedback and support!

    Is this brighter than the wicked laser torch?
    Sure it puts out more Lumens but what is it in terms of basic comparison?

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      HalomasterA69 Honestly I hadn't looked much into the wicked laser torch until now. Looks cool. Since I've never used one, I'm just going off some basic observations. 1st is being the technology... the Wicked torch is Halogen and the Noctigon is LED, so two different technologies. LED lights often have circuit boards and other things inside and generally produce less heat than Halogens. Halogen light have been known to start fires, and the components can often handle and generate higher heat than LEDs. The Noctigon will not start a fire, at least I 'm pretty sure it won't. I no longer have the Noctigon, so I can't say for sure. There are a few users who have modified this light to output somewhere around 12000 lumens, so maybe that one can? The wicked laser looks like it has a narrow reflector, so it can concentrate less lumens into a smaller area too. There's a lot of copper and heat sinking in the Noctigon, so the heat is transferred around the body... but maybe not on the wicked laser? I wish I could do a side by side comparison... but I'm just going to have to speculate for the time being. But yeah mostly they're two different technologies.

    • @HalomasterA69
      @HalomasterA69 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** For sure, well Wicked Lasers 'designed' it to have the ability to be a fire starter...Now the only problem is that ordering from this is a bit tricky. You can find a few off ebay but just for a few more. I am really into flashlights and i'm hoping to find the brightest one, why? Just because, no real reason. A comparison would be pretty awesome just like this video.

      HalomasterA69 Good luck man! It looks like an awesome light. If you do get it, post a video.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +stevencc40 There are lights like the 4 sevens Maelstrom, but those are expensive. And as far as I can see I'll give you a few of the brightest under $500 standard flashlights I'm aware of. The Fenix RC40 at 6000 lumens. The Noctigon Meteor has a 7400 lumen option. The Thrunite TN36 has a 7300 lumens, and Acebeam has the X60M at 10000 lumens. The Fenix has the longest throw out any of these lights, as most of them are considered floody. There are lights that throw light farther, but those lights usually have some tradeoffs and aren't quite as bright. There's a guy named Vinh that is like the ultimate flashlight modding guy. Hey takes stock lights and makes them scream. www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?414876-Ready-To-Ship-Sale-1-27-2016
      I may have overlooked some lights, so don't take this as a bible- but these are ones I'm aware of. I'd love to review a lot of them, but I operate this channel on a shoestring budget, so it's often what people will send me to review. Although I did end up buying the Meteor, because it's the best bang for the buck, in a high lumen "floody" light. My best thower to date is the Acebeam T20. Check out my review of Nitecore EC4S and the beamshot section to see the difference.

      Hey, the only place to buy these is here: intl-outdoor.com/led-flashlights.html (from China) or at mtnelectronics.com (U.S.). I would recommend the Emisar D18 over this - it's on the same site I posted. Keep in mind this review is from 2015 and many advancements have been made since then. It's still a great light but for ~$100 you can find better.

      www.mtnelectronics.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=80&product_id=558
      You'll be unable to find a brighter light that's cheaper. As far as I know. Also the Meteor has a 7400 lumen option. If you look further down the page you'll find the description of each choice. The Meteor is a small batch production light, and the M6 is a heavily modded version of a production light. These are some of the best, dollar per lumen values out there

    how long does (multi batteries) last? Is this a novelty item?
    Battery drain matters to me out in the a 3-4 day hike.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to use 4 batteries with the light. It's fine if you use them on lower modes. The lower modes should all provide excellent runtimes, especially if you don't use the higher modes often. I literally just bought this... The light i reviewed here was a loaner, so I hadn't tested the lower modes. It is true multi mode light, it has novelty appeal because it's so tiny and brighter than most other lights out there, but it can be used in lower power modes for longer runtimes. I've asked around and will let you know if any owners have actually tested the lower modes for runtime. I will probably test some of the lower modes when I get time.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ogostaboy This light is currently not available there, and probably won't be any time soon. Noctigon is a brand developed by intl-outdoor, and these lights are hand assembled by them. The first run I've heard is about 300 lights, then they'll see where demand is before they produce any more. Mtn-Electronics also sells them, but they got their shipment from intl-outdoor. For the price this light kills pretty much all competition.

    Looks cool, user interface started out sounding like Zebralight's UI which I kinda like, but I soon got confused so its sounding more like Armytek UI. That's just way to complicated so I think i'll just stick with my Thrunite TN36, much easier to operate. Although there isn't any Noctigon M43 Meteor vs Thrunite TN36 videos on here so i'm tempted

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's definitely more like a Zebralight... But not exactly like one. I just purchased it, and I'm beginning to like the UI. It ain't my favorite, but I much prefer a long press for turbo than a short press. I've had armyteks for a long time and just got my first Zebralight. It pains me to say I'm not a fan of the Zebralight, because of the turbo layout. I love armyteks and the shortcuts... To me a double click or long press makes more sense for turbo. A short press is my absolute least favorite way to use it. UI3 is programmable... But I haven't programmed it yet. I'd love Zebralights UI if it wasn't for that one thing.

    • @homersimpson2620
      @homersimpson2620 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    is the BRINYTE B158 the best/brightest flashlight under $50-100 ???

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Convoy L6 is one of the brightest- that about $65. And for a smaller brighter EDC I prefer the Zebralight. The Brinyte is a good zooming light... but I prefer a more compact light for every day carry... and if I want to carry something that won't fit in my pocket I prefer it to be brighter. The B158 is sort of a good light for people who want to be able to focus light and also make it spread out too. If that's what you need then the Brinyte is an excellent choice for that.

      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's only on the highest modes. But yeah... about an hour and 30 minutes. If you purchase at it either place they have recommended batteries on each page. Those batteries are higher capacities than the ones I tested the light with, so you should get slightly longer runtimes. Plus... using lower or the lowest modes will yield hours or days of runtime.

      @AdvancedKnifeBro  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +kpboix99 Did you check out the runtime test in this video? On it's highest setting it runs about an hour and 45 minutes. Because this light employs thermal regulation it will get brighter and dimmer over the course of the runtime to keep the light from overheating... which would translate into a flashlight too hot too hold or damage the internal components. When a flashlight has this many LEDs and it runs this bright it generates a lot of heat. The smaller the flashlight the less area the heat has to disperse, which is why it has thermal regulation built in.
