  • Finding a way to anchor your Sun Shade hardware can be tough, especially when it is all located underneath your vinyl siding! While you can buy kits and find videos on mounting them to posts, finding ways to mount them to your house can be difficult, so we decided to make this how-to video so you can learn from our trials.

      Thanks for watching and good catch. I think I must have just bought it. Don't use it enough to be honest. Late spring and summer just get to hot to wear it. :)

    First time homeowner here with a town home that's 3 stories in the rear--this was super helpful, thank you!
    You mentioned something about silicone--where does that come into play? Where do you place it and why?
    As for the wooden block--is it held in place by that large mounting screw, or did you affix it with glue first?
    Thanks for the help!

      Thank you for watching and glad it was helpful. Sorry this took me a bit to respond. The silicone goes around the edge of the pad eye if you feel you need it. I didnt realize i forgot about that until after i posted the video. As for the wooden block. Yes the long screws hold it in place. In my opinion all four screws should be long enough to go through the block of wood and deep into the stud.

    So is the 2x6 block just 5:55 mounted to the plywood from the same screws used for the padeye? Or did you screw in the mount first before screwing in the padeye?

      Hi thanks for watching the video. You can do it either way. I just used the same screws that i used with the pad eye. That being said the screws should go through the plywood and into the stud behind. Just into the plywood wouldn't be strong enough.

    I think the eye bolts can be screwed without that white box, right?, so no cut necessary but just find the stud and screw thru the siding to the stud

      Thanks for watching. I thought about that but I was afraid it would crush the vinyl siding and pontentially allow it to leak. Might work with solid siding though.

    Great video!
    How do you figure out the strongest point to affix to the house?

    • @Apodictic1
      @Apodictic1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Studs are 16 inches on center from the corner.

    • @TheBakerFarm
      @TheBakerFarm  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes as @apodictic1 mentioned you need to attach it to a stud. The box in the video is centered on the stud. All the screws i put in went through the stud behind it.

    We are doing this today! Did you use a nail to hammer in the frame to the house? I couldn't tell in the video

      Glad it helped.No I used 4 inch stainless steel star or torx head screws. Screws are better in my opinion here because the force is wanting to pull them out and down. Be sure to get a heavy duty screw. One that will just fit in the hole on the pad eye. They gave me about 2 1/2 inches of screw in the stud behind the 2x6.

      @@TheBakerFarm thank you... It's been a little difficult so far. The siding on our house did not have an end in the area we need to put this at 😯

    Hello there, what size mounting block did you use?

    • @TheBakerFarm
      @TheBakerFarm  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The vinyl or the wood? The vinyl is 8.5x7.5 . The lowes item number is 790801. Im pretty sure the wood block would have been a treated 2x8 cut to fit the inside of the plastic block. Hope this helps.
